  1. My wife and I went to Grants NM. to watch a grandson play in a championship football game on sat. the 29th SHE suggested that we take the bike. After the game my boy said that they had a BBQ planed and that we needed to stay for it, short story is, that it was about 7:30 that night and already in the low 40s high 30s when we got out of there. 175 miles later where both Popsicles. We had good coats but nothing for the legs. It was the next day when the full feeling came back. It was a good ride though, the bike ran great in-spite of needing new diaphragms.
  2. Do you have the re-stricters in the tubes and at the carb end. this should help to stop the bounce.
  3. I got this bike (83 Venture) about 6 months ago and ever since I have been hunting a very loud annoying whistle in the fairing. I have moved duct tape from this vent to that port over the chrome strip under the windshield but could never find it. this last Friday coming home from a ride I went to shift and as I moved my hand over the clutch lever the sound changed, so I kept moving my hand around that area until I found it. there is a hole on the under side of the ball end of the clutch lever. once I covered the hole half of the noise went away so I covered the brake lever hole also and SILENCE IS GOLDEN GOLDEN. It sounded so good not to hear that noise (in stereo) I had to take a 350 mile round trip on Saturday to watch one of my grandsons play football. I almost turned my wife into a Popsicle. We didn't get headed back for home until after dark and the temp dropped to 40. But there was no whistle.
  4. Talk about a STUPID senior moment. I went to change the fork oil the other day and not thinking squatted down in front of the little drain screw and took it out. I hadn't released the air pressure. Talk about an oil bath, my wife is still laughing at me.
  5. Be sure to check your diaphragms for pin holes, I have the carbtune 11 and love it. it took about 10 minutes from setup to finish. the only problem it still ran like crap so I checked the diaphragms and sure enough they all had holes. I will recheck the synch after I get the new diaphragms.
  6. Thanks everyone for your feed back. I did take the switch apart but everything looked good, no gunk or rust so I put it back together. I've been holding the switch down as I turn and noticed that it started staying on for a few seconds, after each time I did this the longer it would stay on. now it works just fine. I guess that's what happens when it sits in a garage for 25 years. Ya hooo Thanks Steve
  7. I went to order a set of the diaphragms and got this back from Martin when I sent him an email for an order. We sure do but they are now $69.99 + $13.75 UPS (2-5 days)S&H or $9.50 AIR Mail (up to 2 weeks), paypal only to paypal@siriusconinc.com and refer to SD-1 x 4 Thanks Martin It's still a good deal considering. if you had to buy them from the dealer they would cost $85 each, that's with slides. Steve
  8. OK, OK, I have already received more than the membership fees in good tech tips and help, and great people giving it. I'll be joining very soon. (payday) thanks to everyone here for the help. this is a great website. Steve
  9. on my 83 Venture the turn signals will not stay on, is there something I am doing wrong or is there something wrong with the switch. I've herd of the self canceling not working but not this. Thanks for any help. Steve
  10. bongobobny is right I ordered a agm battery from Car Quest yesterday I asked for one that was built in the USA and they told me that this was a Car Quest battery made by Deka in the USA. Thanks everyone for your feed back. I got in touch with skydoc and he has a fuse block kit with the setup to fix the warning light problem that happens when going to the agm batrtery. Thanks Steve
  11. it will crank it over but to slow to start it. when I jump it with my Kawasaki it spins it good. my brother told me to put a regular asprin in each cell and it would clean off the plates and let it charge up again, guess I'll try it and if that doesn't work then I'll go with the Auto Zone trick. Thanks for the feed back. Steve
  12. Any recommendations for what battery to buy for my 83 Venture. My battery passes all the tests at the auto store but won't crank the bike. Thanks Steve
  13. You might check the compression, if no compression no vacuum.
  14. I took the carbs off and tore them apart and cleaned everything with carb cleaner, all the jets and tiny holes, was real careful putting it back to gether. and got them all synced up. I haven't put in new spark plugs yet, that was my next try. good luck on your rebuild. Steve
