I wear wetskins from Costco, they fit well and are heavy enuff not to flap around. You can also get them in an insulated and non insulated versions....about 70 bux CDN if I remember right for the non insulated. They dont fold up real small, but I saved the plastic bag that they were bought in and leave it kinda like a shirt you buy in the store, square and flat so it can sit at the bottom of the trunk Brian

It sounds like the high pitched whine that my 85 G1 gets around 3000 rpm no matter what speed I am doing. Mabbe check it out in different gears, I am betting youre just getting the whine from the clutch basket. Mine gets darn loud sometimes in hot weather on a long ride, but I ve been told its just because of the fact the gears are cut straight in the trans. Brian Actually listen to this and compare it to yours, its a video I took last year at Kruisn the Kootenays in Nelson BC If you take out the wind noise all you hear is whine about 2 minutes into the video. If youre gonna do fork seals mabbe you should look at spending another 50 or 60 bucks and put in progressive springs if yours are still original springs. It makes a huge difference to handling and no more bottoming out on those driveways etc. Brian- 7 replies

in 2008 I went down to Venture West in San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay along highway 1, what gorgeous country and scenery! i didnt get too much of a chance to ride it as my scoot broke, but it was still great even in an Escape. Crater Lake was breathtaking! It is one of the most impressive places ive ever seen, I am sure youll enjoy it if your weather holds for it/. Brian

1st Generation leak ---
friesman replied to Godlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
i havnt done it, but from looking at the parts fiche it looks like you will have to loosen the bolts and remove the water pump after taking off the crash bar. The pipe end that goes into the block looks to be threaded with oring and the end into the water pump is a press fit with an oring. While you have the water pump out you may want to replace your impeller if it is plastic, most broke down over the last 25 years or so. Ps the part new is about 30 bucks from partshark Brian -
1st Generation leak ---
friesman replied to Godlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You should replace the pipe, its available from partshark.com in their Yamaha parts fiche area. Its coming out of your water pump and goes into the block, I dont remember the price but I think it was pretty reasonable. I have a spare just in case mine starts to leak it has a mark similar to yours from the crash bar hitting it. Yamaha didnt think anyone would drop these bikes on the right side , I guess Brian -
that looks like she is in great shape, and I am sure you stole it , like u seem to be able to do....lol! I wonder how long it will take you to get used to the forward controls with out tipping over... Brian

Saddle bag removal
friesman replied to Godlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 85 uses one key for everything, but it was a little cruddy in the lock area when I got my bike. it took a little work but I got them off and then lubed the locks and assy. I would try to shoot a little wd40 in or a penetrating oil into the lock and see id that helps. But maybe a PO had to change your locks? The factory setup is one key fits all. Brian -

I am glad you got your money back for those lights you were trying to track down. Now you can track down the other ones. I gotta track some lights down so I can get started swapping out the light on mine too, I was out on a ride tonight and i just didnt have enuff light. I was riding beside a new Strat and when side by side I couldnt see my lights on the road as theirs lit everything so much more than mine. Brian

friesman replied to rmzaurora's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What is the switch on the left side just below your seat set at? The rotary button has some setting there to give you a variable ride depending on the type of riding you do. I cant remember settings now, but my ride was ruff when I bought mine and i tried some settings there and it seemed to help. Brian -
I am sorry to see that happen to your nice new paint job and great looking bike. Brian

The way I see it, my 85 G1 has doubled in value since I bought it.......and it was 4k a bit over 2 years ago....Now if I ever want to sell i will only have to convince someone that its worth that much... Brian

Were you out at the Base south of Moose Jaw? I would love to bike out and around the Halifax area, igot to know it a bit as my ex was from there and still visit my ex brother in law once in a while. Last time I reneted a convertible and did a great tour around St margarets bay to Lunenberg and got about 34 mpg....but i still wanted my bike!!!! It would be great through there. And Silvrt quit being so jealous of the view here:sign green with env,,,,,just because the mountains obstruct your view....:rotfl: Brian -
EGADS! Where did my MPG go?
friesman replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Being on the middle of the windy prairies, I am here to tell you that the winds can and do affect you a ton! I also find that my mileage drops in colder weather for some reason too. On a calm day my mileage is high 30's low 40's on windy days i drop at least 5-10 mpg. Brian -
Yeah it sux Bill, but the wait will be worth it. When it starts good without having to cross your fingers, youll like it... Brian
