I used to get these on a regular basis,,, but I think they've given up,, probably found out that I have difficulty reading 'English',,,,you know,, if I read anything it has to be laid out right and with the proper terminology and such,,,or I can get all confused.

I can 'see' you all had a wonderful time together,,, good thing I didn't show up or it might have spoiled the whole works. Thanks Steve for putting it all together and from what I read you have the same thoughts as I do,,,,,, get these Venture Riders trained to ride their bikes well and test them out on some gravel,,,,, that'll separate the men from the boys,,,,,,lol. Yes, the forecast did not help us come at all,,, but we had more on our plate so I decided to stay put for the weekend,,,, as it was we went out for a 3 hour ride Sunday Aft, and the missus said that it was time to warm up,,, so that seemed to work out for the best,,,,,,,sure was looking forward for the time together though, and to enjoy the ride and the colors,,,, worried and thought about you guys all weekend. NOW HOW ABOUT SOME PICTURES, SO WE KNOW YOU ACTUALLY DID THE RIDE, AND DIDN'T JUST SIT AT STEVE'S AND DREAM ABOUT IT.

Famed 83-85 2nd gear failure
Marcarl replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If the fix was done just simply by replacing the thrust washer and not dressing the gears, you could very well have the issue repeat itself. The dogs in the gears are square cut to each other and during time and wearing of the thrust washer (the washer keeps the gears mated deep together) the gears tend not to mate as deep and wear a bit and so become 'off square'. This in turn will put more pressure on the thrust washer causing it to wear again, or more, and that gives more room in the mating area of 2nd gear and it will pop apart again. In my opinion the gears need to be dressed as well as the thrust washer replaced or you'll have a repeat problem. Hope this makes sense. -
Might have a little problem riding over that one,,, glad there was some room to get around it,,,,and it's nice to know that cagers care. Ride save and enjoy.

Has anyone had to run over truck tire?
Marcarl replied to roadwarrior's topic in Safety and Education
Part of our training in the Riders training course was to run over a car tire. It had been used before and so was not what would be called solid,,, but it gave you an idea... They demonstrated what to do and what not to do,,,,,what not to do was to use and braking, because then the fool, thing would and did end up coming along with you and cause lots of problems,,,,, what was shown to work well was lots of throttle just before impact,,,, the front end comes up and is lighter, the scoot rolls over the tire and Bob's your uncle. Nice part about doing it right, the tire stayed where it was and so was ready for the next rider. Don't know quite how this all would pan out with a larger specimen, but I would suggest that the best route would still be the throttle and lots of it. It also refocuses the force thing and you'll head in the proper direction,,,,,forward, rather than sidewards. With this training came a saying that was used time and time again through out the 3 days: THE THROTTLE IS YOUR FRIEND, brakes are a scary item.- 20 replies

It should be open \ is open,,,,,,,but you never know, we've been known to change our minds on occassion, we may show up yet,,,,,,,but not likely.
-
Looks like we are pulling out of this one, high of 10 on Sat and 9 on Sunday, with some chance of rain,,,,,,,maybe sorry later, but at this point we find that it's not going to be enjoyable,,,,,,endurable maybe,,,,,,if we had to maybe,,,,,,,but to enjoy the ride, very questionable. Was sooooo looking forward to seeing the colors, riding with good company for the weekend and just being out and away, but maybe soon again. For those of you who are going,,,,,,,,ENJOY!!!!!!!!

If you do end up with some rough spots, use corn starch to put back an awesome shine,,,,,,,careful though, you might have to do the whole bike to get it to all look so nice.

A few years ago, the Durham OPP wanted to do a test with deer whistles. They had the stats from the year before, how many miles were logged and how many deer were hit. So that year they installed whistles on 1\2 their cruisers, and the deer encounters were cut to 25% with the cruisers with the deer whistles as opposed to the ones without. The next year all cruisers received the treatment and the deer encounters did do the nose dive, so they all have deer whistles now. Does it make one immune to deer or other wildlife?????? don't think so,,,,but anything that helps for such a small cost is worth the effort. I have 2 on my scoot and will keep them there. When wild animals are alerted, or scared they will mostly retreat they way they came to that location in the first place, not always, but mostly, if that means across the road, that's the way they're going,,,,,mostly. Just because you have whistles, bayonets, shot guns, or bad looks, it does not mean that somewhere, sometime, somehow, you might not hit a moose or deer, and it only takes one to put you down and out.

Relocating Trunk on 86
Marcarl replied to Burninator's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just used some stainless flat bar, about 2.5" by about 8". I thought I posted some pictures but can't find them now, so I'll repost them. It did raise the trunk a little, but I don't notice it, nobody has commented on it, it is more comfortable for the passenger, and it looks good.- 13 replies

I would suggest a back rest for a daddie's bike,,,,now if you rode a 1st gen, even though the years may say something different, you would feel young enough not to even have to think of one. But that's only my opinion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Most likely the buttons need to be cleaned, so take out the radio, remove the face so that you can get under the buttons and give them a cleaning. Everyone needs a bath now and then.

When you try to lift the front?????????the compression is defiantly higher on the 1200, makes them cheeks pucker so tight there ain't no squeeze left. Talk about compression,,,,,,,WOW.
