CLASS unit not working???
Marcarl replied to woz111's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You will need to take the controller out, take it apart and re-solder all of the cold solder points. There is an article in the tech section on this. Any more problems, post again. Takes about 1-2 hours with a small soldering iron and some non-acid solder. -
If you ever wondered what it would look like
Marcarl replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Did you forget the 'before' pictures??????? Oh well they look real nice now!!!!!!!!!!! -
If you have taken training then this info won't surprise you none: As mentioned, stay loose, let the bike have it's way with you and try to 'enjoy' the flopping around it might do. If it decides to go left, ride with it, and then temper it, and then correct it. If an oncoming car is going to give you a hassel, keep going left to get out of the way, going right all of a sudden will only put you down and out. Keep your head up, meaning that you will go where you look, so if that's close to the bike, that's where your distination is, so look up to where you are going, where you want to be, and then ride baby, ride, slow speed of course.

You'll never know the difference until you have problems keeping air in the Class system. Then, when you take things apart to see what's happened and you notice corrosion all over the place from water getting into places where it shouldn't be, then you'll say AH HA,, now I see. So keep it blue,,, every two years give it a cooking and your Class will perform much better for a lot longer.

bottoming forks
Marcarl replied to Holly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would suggest it is your steerung head bearings being loose. Now you could just tighten them to see if things improve, but you will need to take them apart, clean and grease them to have things right. When you have them apart get a new set from your local bearing dealer, then you know all is on proper order and you don't have any wear to give you future problems. -
Your oil should be hot to do it's job properly, so that's good. The warmer the air temp the slower the scoot is gonna cool so that is not un-usual in warm temperature. My fan only comes on when we're stuck in traffic so that's kind of normal as well. Enjoy your ride. Carl

Bad Stator?
Marcarl replied to Schlepporello's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like your battery is finished, hard to tell how old a battery is sometimes and if it's used even harder to figure out. Simple test would be to charge it overnight and then let it sit for 3 to 4 hours, or just turn your headlights on for about 5 minutes. Now check the voltage, and if it has dropped below 12 replace the battery. If it was your stator or regulator then you wouldn't get any charge at any time. -
New Membership committee for Biker/Musician Social Group
Marcarl replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
To further un-cloud my mind maybe I could be directed then to this Musical sub-Group that has escaped my attention to this point. To try and clarify the membership approval dept, that would be our Moderators. Maybe it is away beyond me of what you speak, but I am interested.- 7 replies

I propose we make next years rally a month long, that we have more time to visit and get to know each other better. It also will allow for more time to ride, and eat and visit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Gary, it was good to spend time with you and do something together, probably the best meal I had all week, not saying anything bad about my regular cook, because she's the best, but together we had a super meal. Looking forward to next time already. Carl

New Membership committee for Biker/Musician Social Group
Marcarl replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
If they just want to join us as members, then they need to register and then pass the approval department, if you want to create a sub-group then you're the one to head it up,,,,, but we'll have to think about making sub-groups first. JMHO Carl- 7 replies

steering head bearings
Marcarl replied to Locomotive's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You're at the perfect point. Just back them off a little, just enough to say that they moved,,,, so little in fact that sometimes just riding a careful 10 miles will solve it,,,, maybe a 1\32 of an inch and it should be perfect. -
A very big thanks to danob11 and lonestarmedic!
Marcarl replied to skydoc_17's topic in Watering Hole
Hey, you did an alright job,,,,,, tell me where you live now that you're experinced. Now that you've handled that so well, there just ain't nothing you can't do. -
Nobody said the rally moved up there,,,,, How can a guy stay in the loop around here anyways,,,,,,,,,call me mushroom. Good to see you got some company,,,,,,,,,,never mind what others say that it may be questionable,,,,,,,,,,,,,all three of you should fit together quite well.

You're probably hearing what is called the Chirp or whine and it comes from the clutch basket. Changing out the clutch basket often helps or eliminates it but not always. It is a warrenty issue so take it to the dealer. It will not get better any other way. Best of luck, let us know how it turns out. Do a search on 'clutch basket' and you'll come up with a good nights reading. Carl
