Better to have people think you're a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. There are only two kinds of people in this world: those who are Dutch and those who wish they were.

Maybe if you're redneck, but normally not.

Need some Brake info 1200cc Venture
Marcarl replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My experience is that when I stomp on the brake pedal, the rear tire comes to a stop. The front is also helped with the pedal but not near as much and for good reason, it's the job of the handle bar lever to control the front braking. Too much there and you'll go flying forward with the bike in hot pursuit. So you need to have very good control of the front. As taught in riders' training, quickly but progressively. Also too much brake on the front will cause the front to dive (hence an anti-dive system) and when the front dives, the back end comes up. With that comes a lighter back side and a sliding back tire, but that's a different story for another night. -
Need some Brake info 1200cc Venture

Clean up the whole system, take it all apart, master and calipers, replace all the aging brake lines with stainless lines and you're good to go. Makes a world of difference. -
Guess I'm not related to a turkey, I only got 5 right, but then I guessed at most of them, and I don't much care for turkey.

Yep, it lowers the center of gravity, thus making the bike less top heavy, the lower the center of gravity the less the bike will want to lay down. It also gives the rider better agility, able to shift quicker and easier from one side to the other. Easier to do with you legs than with your butt.

Looks like something we could join in on, but it would have to be a Saturday to give enough travelling time, although this Saturday is already booked. Don't know if ya'll want to meet any folks from The North Side, but we have been know to go South at times.

Hard starting after 6 weeks
Marcarl replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I never use any Sabil or similar product, but then I tend to ride once a month if possible and if not it''s only 2 months before I would ride anyways, but that' my situation and yours maybe different. I do try to fill my tank to the brim before a longer period of rest, but that doesn't always happen either. In your case I would drain the carbs a couple of times, put in some Seafoam, change the plugs and I think most of your issues will go away. I change my plugs every spring, whether I think they need it or not and don't have any starting problems. When I didn't change them, I always had\have a problem until I do. -

When Israel was a young nation, way back before Christ, God put some rules in place, one of which was that every 7 years the land would rest and everyone was to have a year off. Then every 50 years, that was right after year 49 (7x7) it would be a year of Jubilee, meaning that everything was returned to the original owner, no more debts, no more owing things, back to square one and a clean slate. Something rings a bell with me here, don't know what it is exactly yet, or maybe I'm just hearing things again.

Survey - Airbox holes
Marcarl replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have not ridden my scoot with the airbox removed, but when I run it in a static situation it doesn't seem to effect it much if I take the box off or leave it on. As far as the 4 holes go, I'd honestly say I find not a noticeable difference, but then I don't drag race everyday and so require the utmost power output of the power palnt very often. This only happens when another 1st gen is in the area and I need to catch him, and if that happens than I always win. -
Insulated gloves, keep them dry, inside and out, (sometimes cornstarch on your hands before you put them in the gloves will help) and try to keep the wind off of them.

Can I ride it?????? Can I ride it???????

I'd say make it black and white with red all over,,, and maybe yellow pokadots for the bra and tank cover.

Survey - Airbox holes
Marcarl replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Drilled 4 x5\8" holes in the corneres of the lid, so that they're outside the filter. Can't say as that there seems to be any differnce. Course it runs fine without the air box as well, not quite as good but not a noticeable difference. She starts good, runs strong and I get about 280km \ 174 miles to the tank full, 15 liters = 3 1\4 Can gallons = 4 US gallons = 54 MPG in Canada and 43.5 in the warmer southern weather. Average speed is around 90-100 KPH or 55-60 MPH. Doesn't seem to matter much if I go faster, I just get there a little sooner and that's cuts in on riding time. -
Just thought is was more honest this way.

And once again our prayers were answered with the answer we wanted.
