  1. I was talking about the COPS COMMENTS! Thanks Squeeze for making this clear and pointing this out! Bottom line, If other bikers did go down, and this is a public entrance, not a corner or shoulder, spot in the road, etc, then ok, I should just turn my head , ignor that people are aware that this is a hazard, just let riders keep getting injured or killed and continue to let this be a weekly or monthly occurance? If this was not a publice entrance and those comments not made I would have done NOTHING! I take full responsibility for my actions and always will, but in this situation, I feel I am doing what is necessary, the cops comments and lack of concern keep me awake at night. Also I try to ride with my eyes open most of the time., even on bright and sunny dry days.
  2. Dan, GREAT post! and thank you for the well wishes and comments on my accident, after while I hope to feel like you do, I'll use your post for motivation and hope.
  3. To be TRULY honest, I did't give it a thought the first 2 days. When the accident occured, lying on the ground before the bike was pulled off me, A cop pulled in to check on things and (#1) the first thing he said to me was you hit the gravel didn't you. I agreed and thought, he is telling me this because he knows of the gravel and his tone was like ( happens all the time)??? ( #2 )He then told me and my other riders that I was the 5th bike to go down there this month. I replied with then why didn't someone do something about it, he replied this is a small town I guess. Meanwhile, all I could do of was think of those comments , my situation, how that this is the entrance to the facility and how many more bikes are going down, or someone could get hurt worse than me or killed. Thank God I didn't have my wife on the back. Believe me, I am 51 and never sued anyone or thought of it, but this situation has got me really upset. I have been riding all together on and off for 17 years and fortunately never had an accident. The coment that why would I make someone pay for (MY MISTAKE) is way out of line in this situation. I guarantee you that if those comments were not made, I would have let my insurance do its thing. Law enforcement, owners, etc. that are AWARE of dangerous re-occuring accidents , injurys , damages etc. and are AWARE of what is causing them and do nothing to repair or warn others is obsurd. I also would like to sincerely THANK YOU ALL for the well wishes and comments. I rely on this board for entertainment, friends and a TON of information and you never let me down! For now, I am taking it day by day, hopefull for a complete recovery, and feel lucky , it could of been alot worse. TAKE CARE FRIENDS, BE IN TOUCH!
  4. Unfortunately, pulling into a conveienience store for fuel at 12pm doing 5 to 10 mph at the entrance I hit gravel and both tires slid out and I was thrown down hard. This happened with 3 other friends on the way to enjoy a relaxing Sat. nite at my mother in laws lakehouse in Interlachin. It was right after we stopped for breakfast and about 1/2 way to our destination. I went by ambulance to the hospital where I found out I broke my leg in 3 places and will need re-conctructive surgery on my knee and broke my left thimb and shattered the socket which will also require surgery. I am now , imobile , in a leg cast and hand cast taking pain medication until Thursday when the ball starts rolling to get me fixed. My bike suffered minimum damage and I know now if I had a crash bar instead of a engine guard my leg would probably be much better off. Also due to this being an entrance to a public area I have an attourney involved also. I am also dealing with this syndrome should I ride again or hang it up, 3 weeks before this mishap I had a car pull out in front of me at night on a damp road, but I was able to save it. That alone really bothered me mentaly. Riding means everything to me, it is my escape, and my love, but I am really going to have and need some time to sort this out . I would really like to hear from some of you that have had similar experiences and how you handle something like this. All I can do now is take 1 day at a time and get through the pain. Last but very important, PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE LOOK OUT FOR GRAVEL AREAS, IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAT TRYING TO RIDE ON ICE! I didn't even see the gravel that took me down, it looked liked bleached asphalt.
  5. Hope your having a fun trip and the weather is nice, be safe, and you don't have to worry about me snubbing you this week, bike is in the shop till Sat.7/5:rotf::rotf:.
  6. It started backfiring again, oh well, Thanks for all the help and suggestions, took it in yesterday to my dealer and I have a creacked lower carb boot, wont have the bike back for almost a week. BUMMER! $139 to fix and adjust carbs, not bad can't wait to get it back.

  8. I was told that my bike does not have an AIS? I don't think that I have an exhaust leak, but could be wrong, I did tighten the one bolt I could get to , the other one has a heat shield in the way and I have never installed heat shields or head pipes and am a little leary about getting into this myself and messing up the heat shields or the pipe. All I did was install slip on's which was easy many months ago. Do you feel that I should let the dealer handle this? I am really starting to think as you do, that it is a gasket or exhaust leak somewhere,or a vacum issue. With a cold start, I felt for leaks around the head pipe and the connection for the slip on's.
  9. I am ready to surrender and take the scoot to the dealer. I have checked air filter, new plugs, checked for exhaust leaks, adjusted idle mixture screws, can of seafoam with High octane gas, thought I had fixed the problem, rode to daytona, and its' back?? The bottom left pipe ( I have a 99 Blvd. 4 piper) is still popping at decel and idle. It absolutely drives me out of my mind. THIS IS ONLY ON 1 FRICKIN PIPE !!!!!!!!!!!, the bike has always run great until about 2 or so weeks ago. I really doubt that this is a carb sync issue, and the bike runs great when cruising. Any more last minute suggestions before I break out the wallet. Also, does any one know where I can download a repair manual for a 99 standard? :confused07:
  10. I just ran a can through the tank and have been told by some that I need to change the oil to remove the debris that it has accumulated ?? I just changed it 1200 miles ago and synth. oli is expensive? Any ideas if this is needed or can harm my engine if I don't change it? In most of all the post I have read nobody mentions changing the oil after Seafoam.
  11. I fired it up and took it on a test ride, WOW! It worked thanks to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This site and the people and their knowledge just keeps amazing me all the time. Believe me , I'm not that mechanically inclined people, but I follow directions pretty well. It's so nice to sit at idle and not hear POPPIN !
  12. :clap2::clap2::clap2: Congrats! Gentlemen, may the force be with you!
  13. Mission accomplished, I used a drywall screws in 2 of them and pulled them out, and drilled the other 2, came close but all 4 screws were fine, not damaged , to adjust. I will start the scoot up tomorrow and she how she runs. Sincere thanks to MiCarl (in the chat room), Lynn, Don, and Taz! ! Also Lynn, good to hear from you, hope all is well!
  14. Help!,:starz: I am trying to adjust my idle mixture settings on my carbs on my 99 blvd. 4 piper and I can"t get the brass looking caps off?? What is the best method, I'm a little scared to drill em out and so far I'm having no luck. Also are the pilot screws flat head or phillips? I am doing this to try to eliminate some backfire on decel . Thanks
  15. Jeff, Monday it was, I was still in shock after just leaving the final hour of the closing of the Rooster, honestly , just in a zone I guess; wondering what I'll do now, it was like a second home to me for 6 years , great friends, cook outs & BBQ , great bands on weekends , coldest beer in town and only 4 miles from the home.Ya know I would have stopped if I would have had my brain turned on. I am truly bummed as you can see, It was my favorite place to just get away for a bit, before yard work, after yard work, before Gator and Jag games, a great reason to just take a ride, and there was always someone I knew or someone new to meet,or to just play a game or 2 of pool, mostly who like me ; just like to ride and love bikes and the people. I don't know if I like riding more or just the people I meet when I ride? Anyway enough babling, hope the meet n eat at your house went well and sorry I could'nt make it, wife was out of town Thur and Fri for a wedding and Sat. she wanted to be with me and relax by the pool, imagine that? Take care Jeff, hope to SEE :rotf: ya soon!
