  1. I have a few small odds & ends laying around from my MKI rebuild that I don't feel like putting on ebay. I just put a lot of 1st gen stuff on ebay, including a set of side covers & knee fairings that are in good shape. Do an advanced search on seller ID dingy101 if interested. 1st freebie is a louver from a knee fairing. Only one of the louvers is there but it could be moved to another unit. I also have a complete set of brake lines. I really don't advocate using old parts like these, but I understand someone may need them that can't afford new ones. MKI headlights. Plastic engine heat fairings. Couple of sets of MKI cams. Valve covers California air unit. Thermostat housing Horn set MKI clutch - missing one full friction plate. All this stuff is in need of cleaning. All I ask for it is actual shipping costs. Gary
  2. My carbs are completely clogged on left hand side of the engine. I am going to take them off and I am wondering if anyone knows: is there a kit to replace everything in the carb - jets bowls etc..\ where can the best price be had What kind of money would make it best to buy a used set of carbs, I found a set of carbs that just came off a running 83 venture but not sure what they are worth. As alwasy I do appreciate the info and help..
  3. well weekend is going good. i got the bike to idle a few turns here and there but maybe turned the wrong screws all in all not bad. im sure the bike needs a crb sync. went out early to day and with some advice i got on a previous post i used the turkey baster and filled the rear master cyclinder and went at bleeding the brakes. started at the rear. pumped it 5 times had friend hold the rear brake lever there and opend the bleeder. whoosh some air. closed it pumped it again 5 times opened it and being silly was looking at the bleeder when i opened it and got safety glassses coverd with brake fluid. checked the rear master and put a little more fluid in it. pumped the brakes and went to the front. cracked the bleeder and it had fluid no air. turned the bike on started it up and hey no warrning light:cool10: had to do alittle linkage adjustment. took the bike out and wow i got brakes:cool10: now being tired for some reason i cant get the side bags on. i set the lock to set went to put them on and just cant get them far enough forward to set the darn lock? maybe wd40 the rubber to make it slick? put on the side covers i got off ebay.. and bike is looking better when i get batteries for the camera pics will be comming. now if i can just figure out the bags im almost good to go well i mean i can go just need a little more tweeking on the carbs. and i want to give a big shout out to everyone who gave advice. lets see for 12 bucks i got about a million in good advice. is it ok for a guy to say i love ya guys? ok the women here too. and no i dont swing that way but i do have a few pink underware and t shirts thanks to a helpfull 7 year old great niece

    your "last ride"

...an interesting take on how one guy set it up is found in today's Toronto newspaper: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/803830--dead-biker-memorialized-astride-his-ride
  5. Anyone know where to get a set of after market fork boots for a 93 Venture?
  6. No I don't mean road rage or Anti-Government speech. I just changed out my Final drive (aka pumpkin) to a set of V-max gears from Sportmax. Its been raining since I finished so I haven't had a chance for a test ride. But one thing that I have noticed is that the new Pumpkin seems to have about twice the backlash as the factory gears. When I ordered the part I did ask John, the owner of Sportmax, about the backlash and he stated that it would be set to factory spec. I felt like my factory set had a little to much, wasn't sure thought. Now I know that there are several parts of the drive train that contribute to the total amout backlash, and too little backlash is a recipe for problems (heat, gearwear, gearwhine and owner whine). So here's my questions to those who know? 1 - Can you measure the total amount of lash at the tire? ie Mark the tire tread, in gear, measure the total free play. 2 - If so how much free play should there be? Mine measure about two inches with the V-max setup. 3 - Could my factory set of gears been too tight and causing some of the gear whine? I have had the clutch basket changed once with no real good results. I should add that John at Sportmax was very nice and went out of his way to get me the parts quickly. So far he gets an A+ for service.
  7. I was checking to see if someone can help me. The first set of pictures is of my highway pegs bracket. I am wanting to know if anyone can tell me what they are made out of and if there is a way for me to cold weld them back together. I don't know if something like J-B weld will hold them. I really hate to buy a new set when all I need is this one piece. The second picture can somebody please tell me where on the bike these go. The last set can somebody tell me what they fit. I bought them off Ebay because I thought they would fit my bike. They have don't have the flap to make them open like a door. They have a lever in place of a lock and then 2 pegs sticking out on the other side. I don't know if they fit something with the radio or not. They don't fit my bike and i would be willing to trade them or sell them. I am looking for a set for the left side I don't have a radio just the pocket.
  8. I'm as dumb as a brick when it comes to anything bluetooth. Here's what I'm thinking about doing, and wanted to ask for input on whether it's even possible. I just picked up a Garmin Streetpilot c550 with bluetooth capabilities. It also has the MP3 player. What I wonder is... can I get the Garmin, and a helmet bluetooth head set, and my bluetooth cell phone to interphase with each other? The Garmin addresses the ability to link to the cell phone, but can the helmet set send and receive audio and be the primary controll???????? Anyone ever done this type of set up? I like the Garmin as it has the same sunlight screen as the Zumo550. It is smaller but easier to find a place on a crowded 1stGen dash. Any thoughts would be appreciated....
  9. ok ..... I've read through a few threads and would like to ask a simple question as to how my 2002 midnight ventures gauge works. At about 175 miles odometer switches to F and starts to count up. Is that when I should switch to reserve ?? also some say to just run it set on reserve all the time ?? So my first question is how is it suppose to work and what works best for my friends riding these bikes ?? Dale ps. I haven't run out of gas yet, but have had it in sputter mode a few times.
  10. I have used the re-solder circuit board twice. The problem is as follows: I can set the front air pressure and then get an E1 error, I wiggle the white plug behind the control unit and it will be functional enough to set both the front and rear pressures, but once I turn off and secure everything, I get E1 error again.. Question: If I set the pressures front and rear, then turn off unit, will the system maintain pressure until the next time I have to wiggle the white plug which feels lose. cimack77
  11. I've been running Avon Venoms for the last 3-4 years on the '83VR and they were great when it comes to handling. It's just the sidewall cracking issue that bothered me. No complaint about Avon's replacement policy. Anyway, because of some good feedback on this board, I decided to put a set of Elite III's on the '99RSV. I'm still running Avons on the '91VR, but figured the '99 will be a long range tourer, and I don't want to deal with possible cracking while out in the boonies. Besides all of the 1stGens I own, for the most part, came with EII's, and.. IMO... are as tough as nails. If the EIII's give the same results I'll be a happy camper. The EIII's also have a tread pattern that's very similar to the Venoms. So I went ahead and picked up the EIII's from Jake Wilson online. Another set of Venoms, with their $50 buck rebate would have been cheaper by $20 bucks. The EIII's ran $221 on my doorstep, and the Venoms would have run me $240. Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike rebates....
  12. Anyone have these installed? Could you post pictures is so? How do they install? How long did it take, etc. I would like to get a set but would like to see them on a member's bike as opposed to the Diamond R site's pics! Thanks! http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV/RSTD LED Saddlebag Light Bar
  13. i have a beautiful set of boards with heel/toe shifter......got pegs? with linkage, brake n shifter? maybe we can work out a deal

    Dunlop E3's

Just order a set of E's for my venture from Jake Wilson for 209.00 I so glad teh brickstones wore out 7500 miles and the rear is gone and could not wait any longer on the front to wear out.... I have never been so sick of a set tires in my life.
  15. I have a whole set of fenders, wheels, side covers and tank plus alot of misc. parts off my 96 Royal Star. I have another set I had custom painted and don't need these now. They are blue and white. The tank is new and has a decal I designed on it. Before I put this stuff on EBay I thought I would let the club know. I will sell it all for $375 plus freight. I will be selling individual parts on EBay so this is a deal. Reno 715-459-2570 pixx@charter.net
  16. Hey Folks, I have a perhaps odd question to ask all of our members here. Lonna and I just signed a renters agreement on a doublewide MH with a 2 car garage...Yay for us It's all furnished with washer/dryer, stove, fridge yada yada yada. We now need to get some items for the house as we left quite a few things with Lonnas sister back at our old home in Michigan. The 1 thing we really need is going to be a good set of culinary knives. I'm not talking about the stuff you buy at Walmarts, this will be the last set of knives we buy. I'm no chef, but I do know there are good knive companies out there like Henckel and such. These are professional knives and that is what we are looking for. We have a great many members here with varied back grounds. What I would like is if you folks that are in the know or are culinary professionals (or anybody for that fact) could suggest a set of good quality knives that will last our lifetime. Price is somewhat of an issue, but I dont mind paying for quality and I'm thinking somewhere in the $300 or less price range. Do appreciate all you help with this one
  17. Kenda Kruz Designed to meet the needs and looks of the very popular Cruiser market 120/90X18 Front 140/90X16 Rear Speed Rating: H Sidewall: Black 147.90 for set --------------------------------------------------------- Conti Tour TK17 & TK16 The industry's highest load rating. 120/90H-18 Front 140/90H-16 Rear Speed Rating: H Sidewall: Black 230 for set ------------------------------------------------------ Whats your alls thoughts on either set? I have seen where alot of folks here run the Avon's but they were 300 a set and that is getting way out of my price range when I have to also pay to have them put on..
  18. Hi guys.. so here I am with the little digital tach that you wrap one wire around your spark plug wire, press S1 to set how it reads either single fire, double fire or what ever else it does.. It has the S2 and S1 button on it.. I'm getting set to Synch my carbs and hooked up the little tach device and now *I* have that bovine look of incomprehension on my face as to what I'm reading.. At idle, I'm either reading 550 RPM or 2300 RPM in either S1 or the S2 reading.. HUH? I thought the idle rpm was around 900 rpm on this thing.. but when I jog the throttle up to 1000 rpm it sounds higher rev that what I had synch'd at with before.. Can someone illuminate me as to what "Idle RPM" should be.. and what setting should this digi tach should be set at? I know it's a dual fire ignition system, right? ****************** Ok so AFTER using the dual fire setting on the tacho, and reading in the book that the engine should be set at idle (roughly 1000 rpm) I synch'd up my carbs, which were WAY off after this winter.. So yes, the engine sounds like I am now adjusting it at a much higher rpm sound than before, however, this is a HIGH rev sound for leaving your bike at "idle"?? It sounds too much like an engine at idle with the carb heat (choke) left on full... ?? If I drop it to where the shops tend to leave the idle its now closer to 600 rpm.. smooth.. not chuggy.. taste great, less filling kind of sound. This was my first carb synch with the digital tach and yeah it was nicer and easier.. ONE thing I noticed though that causes me issues when making adjustments. Either settings phillips screw, if you push against them the idle speed drops.. if you leave it alone it will come back.. so when I place the phillips screw driver against the screws, I have to be ever so gentle with it.. so to not muck up the idle rpm setting while adjusting.. is this common? Thanks again.. let me know what you think.. Cheers
  19. I ordered a set of Kuryakn Longhorn forward crusing pegs. The package arrive yesturday and I got the big ready to install them. I opened the box...and guess what? I got a set of Harly Davidson rear riders extened pegs! Rats! Called the vendor, and they said someone transposed one number and I get screwed. Anyway, they are paying postage to return and are sending the right part this time...Well that;s what they say. I just freaken hate it when this crap happens.
  20. Finally got out on the scoot after several upgrades. the Carb mod with the needle spacer adjustment netted me 12mpg more, averaged 42mpg at regular cruising speed. I also installed the 420 Progressive shock in the back end...wow what a difference on the ride, still waiting for the front spring set to come in, can't wait till I put those in.....A huge thank you to all of you that have posted tips etc on mods and upgrades.. Soldierboy
  21. At what speed can you set your cruise and make it hold? On my MM I have set it at 84mph even though it is not suppose to set above 80mph. However on my 2001 I can't set it above about 60 or 65 and have it hold. A friend (SteveW) says that his is the same way but he can bump it you to about 75 mph after he sets it at 60 and bumps it up. I have not tried this but I will. So let me know how your cruise works and at what speeds. Canu you set it at 80 or do you have to set it at a lower speed and bump it up? Harry
  22. Okay you 1st Genners. A lot of you have been inquiring about the Hootie Booties. So, I thought I would just post some photos so that you can see what they look like. I can make them out of Nalgahyde (now that the season has opened on Nalgas) or real leather. I can also do custon colors if anyone is interested and you don't get way out there on the color. Standard black leather with domes are only $20.00 a set. Custom colors are $25.00 a set. Nalgahyde are $15.00 a set All the booties are felt lines to prevent scratching the fork plungers. The price includes shipping by USPS. So, if anyone else is interested, shoot me a PM.
  23. once again i look for everyones wisdom, want to put passing lights on. i know yamaha has them but where else should i be looking? also i want to be seen from the rear.what's the best set up and where can i find that? thanks for any help.......BOB
  24. Here's the finished product, pinstriping, cleaning, set the speedometer, odds and ends.
  25. On another thread people made comments about a women who was in a motorcycle accident who happened to be out of work because she was on disability. I'm 100% disabled and would rather be working. (I made lots more money) Until this last back operation I couldn't drive my van for an hour without pulling over and getting out because of the pain. Can't ride in cars because I can't get in or out of them. If I go in a store for a loaf of bread I have to use a shopping cart because if I'm on my feet for more then a few minutes without something to lean on my legs go numb and I can't walk. I bought a special office chair with a dozen adjustments so I can set down without pain at home because regular living room chairs won't work, when I visit someone I ask to set in a kitchen chair so I can get back up. Sleep most of the time propped up setting in the corner of the couch that a friend built a frame to raise the height 8" so I can get in and out of it. If my home caught on fire at night I'd just would have to burn up because when I wake up it takes about a half hour before my right leg will work good enough to take more then a step or two. BUT I can ride the gold wing with back rest I had or the 1st gen Venture with back rest that I have now all day and feel better then anything else I can set in or drive. Friends even joke that I should find a old Venture frame with a seat and put it in my living room. And try applying for a job with such a bad back and see who would hire you. I tried, I didn't want to go on disability, I've worked all my life and wish every day I still could. So because I can ride "certain" motorcycles I'm faking?? There are a lot of people faking and using the system but because someone can find something in their life that they can still do don't lump them in the lazy bum category. Heck having sex is harder then riding and I'm not going to give that up either. So sometimes people need to know all the information before such broad comments are made. Sorry I took it so personal but it hit home.
