  1. My better half was actually paying attention when I mentioned a few months ago that I'd really like to get a full size professional Craftsman Tool Chest for the garage, so I could get things organized down there for once in my life. Well, guess what was under the tree? Yep, she got it for me for Christmas. It wasn't exactly under the tree, but the smaller top chest was, and then she led me to the basement where the larger bottom chest was hiding. It's gorgeous - - red, with the ball bearing drawers, liner inserts, a few organizer trays, and a 4X8 comfort mat for the floor and an adjustable-height rolling work stool with tool tray to boot. Guess where I've been these last few days?? I now have a VERY organized work area - - no more tools scattered in 12 different places or dangling on the peg board. I'm in heaven!
  2. just thought i'd take a second to say "thank you" to all my REAL friends, here. over coffee , this morning , i was "counting " up some of my blessings, and all of you wonderful people on this site floated to the near top of my list. so to all my real friends, HAPPY THANKSGIVING", in advance. probably won't be able to be here tomorrow. oh, redneck - - - - - that goes for you too, i guess! just jt
  3. It is not my fault that Tom made the Big Bend run on a new Goldwing. It is not my fault that my wife fell in love with the bike...ok, so did I. It is not my fault that when we stopped in at a Honda dealer for rainsuits that they had an '07 Goldwing...level three that we would really like. I guess it is MY fault that we ended up buying it, though. I hope I will not be disowned by this group...
  4. ok any one know of this one in IOWA . i have to go there tomorrow. i have been fighting a military injury for ten years now. mostly to get them to own up to it.. and get some help . i have heard good things about this place. im going in for a brain scan. to see if my MS could be caused by a chemical spill that happened when a 6x6 over turned in our convoy. till this day i do not know what was in them barrels? this happend back in 82. and i didnt think nothing of it untill 1994 when they found out i have MS and some nerve and neuro damage. with the interferon shots for the MS weekly i do ok. but do due then good old economy and health care BS medicade and medicare are trying to cut off this medication. reason is it cost $1200.00 a month and i will need it for rest of my life. there saying theres a cheaper pill out there i will take everyday. and its around $550.00 a month. now im getting tired of who can and who cant controll my treatment. i dont want something that might not work when these shots are doing the trick. and i for one dont think a vet should be treated like a lab rat. if it aint broke dont mess with it. thats how i think. i guess im a lucky one i could be one of the 1000.s of homeless vets around this state. its hard to say im on ssdi and cant work like i use too. $750.00 a month plus being forced to get food stamps. makes me feel less like a man. sometimes i think of what my friend went through when he decided it aint worth it no more. then i see my daughter and great niece and family and just keep on keeping on. i now think when i get up every day insted of saying F it i place my feet on the floor when i roll out of bed and look up and say thank you. for one more day.
  5. And got my other 1st Gen out. Tucked "Brown Sugar" away in Skids garage and got "Ugly" out. Think she was mad at me for ignoring her for the summer. Coughed, farted and burped most of the way home til she got over it and started to run about 1/2 like she should. Guess I'll have to baby her for a while Ain't nothing wrong with having the Two Fastest Ventures in the area!!!
  6. Due to recent cutbacks my position was eliminated and I was terminated today.I was the plant Electrician and HVAC technician.I guess with cutbacks they dont need electricity or heat and air.My wife has been unemployed for a year now so I guess we can go job searching ON THE BIKE.
  7. After 10 years and 135K mostly trouble free miles on my RSV I finally decided to replace her a few weeks ago with an 08 Wing. There were a few things that I wanted to do to the RSV before I put it up for sale. The CB hasn't worked right for years and the cruise control seemed "weak" but I never used them anyway, so wasn't to concerned at the time and let it go. Thought I had better see if I could get them working better for the next owner. Short story is that three weeks ago I put the bike in my shop and started tinkering with it, getting things cleaned and fixed up. Changed oil, plugs, etc. Went down there this morning to do a couple things (getting out of the house mostly) and guess what...the rear shock has puked all over the floor!!! Just setting there! I guess this is revenge from the old girl for replacing her with a newer model. Had a wife like that once. Anyone interested in a great running 99 RSV that still needs work, pretty cheap?
  8. well today i went to see her after school . because of the neighbor. i no longer see her here. well we went out to eat. then i had to run to ottawa IL and get a part for a freinds bike. while there the salesman was talking to her. just to keep her busy i guess? while i was making my purchase he put her on a bike to get a feel for it?? she looked pretty darn cute on it. sorry i know the rules but didnt have cell phone or camera. i told her you will have to wait. for that. guess what type of bike it was??? yep it was a brand new goldwing LOL shes 13 years old.. and that salesman never even asked me to get on it LOL well at least shes got a dream...........
  9. Harley's troubles keep getting worse but I guess all maufacturers are having trouble. http://www.hsdent.com/blog/tag/harley-davidson/
  10. well my radio went bad the third week of April took it to the dealer they sent it off told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks so i said ok well 9 weeks later got the controler back it was good so they wanted my amp so they took it off and sent it off a little bit after the 4th of july so now its been 15 weeks. so today i called to see if they had lost my number so i got the service manager on the phone and he started to apolgize about how he didnt follow up on it and that he would call clairon right away and that it shouldnt have been this long. an hour later i get a call back from the dealer he said he just got off the phone with them and they told him that they had no idea what he was talking about so he gets the tracking info and faxes them the tracking number and who signed for it on what day and time so guess what they have lost my AMP he says he told them that that wsant good enough that his costomer (me) has been waiting for 15 weeks and wanted to know what they plan to do about it so guess what they said that they would send me a brand new one in two days so after 24 weeks i finaly get to hear music:680: again.
  11. This whats happens to it ,I guess I better stop scraping my foot pegs
  12. Well, I became a supporting member Wed, and Thurs I went down, so I guess I gotta send another donation in. I was on my way to work and people were all and out not driving worth a darn. I had to slam on the brakes and one second later I'm sliding on my left side. Probably was going 25-30 mph. Helmet got some scratches, jacket, glove and boot just got some "character" added to them, pants got a small hole. Bike lost it's left mirror, sanded some paint off and chipped the edge of the turn signal. Highway peg, saddlebag bar, and pipe took most of the abuse and had the most wear. Guy behind me stopped, helped me right it, and push it to a nearby parking lot. Me, I got some bruises on my left side, some rug burn most likely from my shirt moving (jacket kept it from being road rash) but the worst injury was my RIGHT thumb must have hit something because it was swelling and hurt like a sob. Wife picked me up and took me to the dr. Nothing broken, just sprained. But now I can't grab the throttle. So after work, I had a buddy come and drive it home for me. Started ok, rode fine, he liked the power of it (1st gen rule!). So for now, I put in on winter insurance, will have to fix the mirror, I want to repaint & repair all the cracks in the fairing, and will de-link the brakes, which is what I'm sure put me down. My son asked if I was getting rid of it. I told him "No way". -Andrew
  13. Asked local Yamaha dealer to quote new tire with them doing the labor on my 83 Venture. They won't work on bikes older than '85! Afraid if they break something they can't get parts. Now I see why folks are parting out much nicer bikes than mine. Guess I'm gonna have to get brave and do this myself. Studied the process but still uncomfortable. Would like to see a video with shaft/spline, brakes, ??? maintainance included. Wonder if I could find some help here... http://www.barbervintagefestival.org/ this weekend.
  14. Was someone here bidding on chrome frame covers on EBAY?If you were the winning bidder i guess you needed the alot more then me:crying:
  15. And who is this ????? another reason I don`t drink:smile5:
  16. I was doing some maintenance before going on a three day trip with our local Star group so while I was at it I blocked off the AIS with rubber plugs. I was hoping that the popping would be gone. It's the same as it was before. I guess I need to check for an exhaust leak. Will synchronizing the carbs help? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  17. Put my bike in the classifieds. It's either sell or let it be repo'd. That happens some times when you're out of work for a while, for me, that's been since May. The loan companies won't cut you any slack and I guess my partial payments didn't cut the mustard with them. Any way I got to do something quick. Thanks for looking.
  18. i need a wiring harness for my rear speakers on my second gen(06).i also need some speakers but figured i go with some new polk or alpine. also instrestead in the chrome plates that cover the carb springs and if its not to early to make a christmas list dose anybody have a set of j&m intercom system for a full face helemet? guess i'll stop there for now c-me later.p.s. i guess when yammer dan passed me he sucked the speakers and the wires out!!!
  19. I recently purchased a 1993 VR. On the right hand side, part of the water coolant lines, I noticed a grayish tape around a joint. I took the gray tape off to get a better look at what it was covering. Is this tape normal? If so, I guess I'll need to know what kind of tape to put back on. If it's not normal, any thoughts on what I should to do fix what he was covering up. Thank you. file:///C:/Users/sean/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/OLK3A13/IMAG0130.jpgI have attached a photo for explanation.
  20. I am thinikng about making a speaker set up in the lids of the saddle bags so I am looking for some broken lids that anyone has and wants to get ride of. I dont want to cut up a good set since I am not sure how I am going to do this just yet. Trial and error I guess.
  21. Well, after 19,000 miles, I decided it is time to replace the Dunlop E3s. I was hoping to get another 1000 miles out of them. I guess that is a macho thing. But it would be great to say that I got 20k miles on a set of MC tires. Placed the order and should have the new tires before the weekend. They had the front E3 in stock but had to get ther rear from manufacturer. Guess that means I'll get a few more miles on this set. Rear still has some life on it, but the front is into the wear bars. New tires, grease slpines, shaft & hub, new final oil, stearing head bearing service. I got some work to do.
  22. I have Carbon One's Crash Bar Braces that never been installed Guess who are the ones holding the 3 beer bottles at the 2010 FreeBirds Maintenance Day
  23. Ok, I got a fairing to use temporary(midnight fairing on a gray bike, HMMMMM?), so I can fix and paint the boo-boos on my gray RSV fairing (Why do my bikes always seem to take on the Johnny Cash's one piece at a time Cadillac look? ). Some of the scratches are kinda deep, so I'm wondering what sand paper to use and will conventional body filler (aka Bondo) stick to ABS? Will "rattle can" primer work, or is there something special needed for ABS? Guess I gotta be real careful of the pin-stripes, 'cause I bet Yammie is REAL proud of those!!! Once I get the scratches out, I guess there is no hope a Stealership will give up the paint codes, Huh?
  24. I'm not familiar with Yamahas or Ventures at all, but I may be going to look at a used '84 royale within the next few days. It has about 60,000 miles on it. Is there somethings in general or specifically I should be looking for at this bike. I guess to me, the miles are ok, it's the age I would be worried about. How have these bikes held up overtime, what kind of maintenance should I expect to have to do, are parts NOS or aftermarket and accessories still available? Just not sure what to expect I guess, and don't want to end up with a money pit. A little history about me, started riding in the early 90's on a 800 Intruder, quickly went to a gl1500 aspencade that we loved. Had kids and sold it, & haven't ridden in about 10yrs. Just looking for something comfortable to ride to work and some touring with me and my wife on weekends. Thank you so much for your help, Dan.
