Crank Case Vent Upgrade!
Squeeze replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
But George .... what the Food worth if your Son and the Kids can't breath ?? Sorry, i couldn't resist. On the serious Side, this MOD may give you some extra Horses, because the mostly the Pump Effekt of the Pistons make up Oil in Engine Breather. If you allow the Engine to "breath" better, be it by opening up the Breather Path and/or keep the Oil Level on the low Side, it produces extra hp by reducing the Pump Loss. -
1st Gen Coil Specs are Primary 2.4 to 3 Ohm, secondary 10.6 to 15.8 kOhm 2nd Gen Coils Specs are Primary 3.57 to 4.83 Ohm, secondary 10.71 kOhm to 14.49 kOhm Since the primary Resistances aren't that far apart(3.36 Amps at the lowest Resistance vs 4 Amps at the highest of 1Gen Range), i figure that should work without frying the Igniter Box. The 1Gen's are the same as Vmax Coils and they alwas have been on the upper End when used. But Pegscraper could have tested this and remembers the Facts.

Sure it is also a "Death Machine" ... Once the Turbo engages, this Thing goes just straight forward, whereever the Bike is pointing at ... Change Direction ... ok not a Problem, but back off Throttle first !!!!

I also wear Glasses and nothing else than Full Face. Well, except of my Schuberth C2 Helmet which i wear when running Errands all over the Town only. Those Open/half/modular/whatever are just too loud for me. I got my Optician to change the Arms from standard to straight Arms. Takes some Time so get yourslef adjusted to but since then, I'm fine.

Yes, but they should invent further, then they will come in the right Color right off the Machine.

EANDS cables to forks
Squeeze replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I didn't find a Coupler or Connector at the bottom, i had to unhook them on the upper End behind the right side. You might be able to reach in when taking the Blinker out.- 4 replies

Choke Question for the Carb Guru's
Squeeze replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Jack, don't kill the Messenger !! !! My Max is as picky as your '83. I dug into every Aspect more than once to NO avial. Carbs, Choke Settings, Floater Valves, Igniter, Plugs, Wires, Pickup Coil, Coils whatever you can think of. I just live with it. It's a V4-Motor, and it's an individual .... My CX Turbo didn't start with Iridium Plugs. I did tear the whole Bike apart and found nothing unusual. I put the Iridium Plugs into the Boots and they fired outside the Cylinder. Then one Day, i pulled the old standard Plugs out of the Trash and whalla ... The bike started right up. Standard out, Iridium in, nothing, nada ... So finally, i trashed those expensive Iridium Plugs and live lucky with my standard Plugs. -
Choke Question for the Carb Guru's
Squeeze replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
now, I'm no Carb Guru, but to answer your Qusetion ... the World is full of Wonders ... :rotf::rotf: Seriously, i think you got a Vacuum Leak there somewhere, probably inside the Carbs. -
But it's not always Depreciation ... As we found out the last Days, the MSRP for the new Vmax in the Netherlands was 22,990.00 Euro. Last Week they re-opened the Reservation Page, and the Price on that Page went up to 25,990.00 Euro for the 2010 Model. At first we joked about a Typo or they bought too much Vmaxxes (the alloted Number was 50 Bikes and they got 10 Bikes extra from somewhere else because they where sold out early), but then we started to inquire this. Those Netherlands Sources pulled some Strings to the Yamaha Netherlands, which is in the same Building as Yamaha Europe and got answered. ... "The MSRP in all european Countries will be raised on all Yamaha Motorcycles". That's 13 Percent Price increase. I guess i was lucky, i have the Bike now and not in 2010 and it will maintain a better Price for the next Years.

Earl reported he had a Set in his Virago at for at least five Years. But this was last Week or so. If they hold up 5 Years or more, would be good enough for me. :thumbsup2: btw ... Why stacking them up Grandkids are nice !!! :fingers-crossed-emo:fingers-crossed-emo

I can confirm the Years on the Maxxes. The very early 85 has had 34mm Carbs just as the 1Gen and those Maxxes are very seldom, but other than this they're all the same. The Diaphragm will even fit the earlier's fine, it's just a slight Difference in the Lifter Hole Boring which could be corrected in no Time. But as we only replace the Diaphragm istself, that's a no-brainer. I've checked Gereon's Website two Days ago. He doesn't list those "SD-1 Diaphragm only" anymore, he had them listed last Year, so it thought there could have been a Problem and delisted them. I know two Guys from the german Vmax Site which mounted the Diaphragm only. No negative Reports up to this Day. I was just a bit hesitating because of my Doubts on the long Term Durability.

I'd really suggest a Tach to all the 2Genners. I feel most are lugging their Engines and thats not good. At least during Break In, one should have a Tach attached to really see what's going on ... Here's what i wrote somewhere else about my Plan to break in my new VMax ... I try to explain my Plan ... keep in Mind, i've done 50 km with a Lot changing Rpms and Load at not more than 5 k, one short run to 6k at low Load included. Put a Tape to the Throttle Grip and mark four Areas at the Casing of the Grip. 25-50 Percent with green, 50-75 Percent with Yellow and 75 to 100 Percent with red Tape. This way you can control actual Load better during riding. Say, for the first Run take 3rd Gear and apply 25 Percent Throttle, let the RpM rise to 6k and back off Throttle, let the Bike coast all the Way down to 1500 Rpm or so. This coasting between the Runs is important because the Sucktion this will cause helps to get the Shavings away from the Cylinder Wall. Then let the Motor cool down. Stopping would be your best Shot. Then a new Set of three or four Runs, another cool down Period. You see, my personal Procedure is like the Motoman says, but not that extreme hard on the Engine at the Beginning of the Procedure. I plan on 12 or even 15 Runs with increased RpM and Load, ending at 8 k with fill Load. When this done, change the Oils and go riding like you "normally" do. No holding back except full Throttle and full Rpm for a longer than a Minute or two. After another 200 Miles, the Engine should be ready to give anything you like to have.

Sure, that could be .... If he stops whining, is willing to provide Infos and maybe some Pics and starts a structured Conversation, we will find out soon. If not, i'm afraid to say, that Bike will be on serious Sale very soon. We can help anybody out with about any Question that may arise, but that needs some Cooperation from the Questioner.

Just ride like you stole it. The ride it like your hate it Part will be next Level ... Seriously, you won't hurt the Engine. In Fact you are a Point were you should put it harder to the Motor or you will have a weaker Engine for Lifetime. Take a Look here ... http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm I'm not saying should go in full Throttle and run it at WOT on the Superslab but follow this Advise is a good Idea. His Arguments are valid.

Need a carb question answered
Squeeze replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The Carb Bodies(!!) off nearly all 1Gen's are the same, all are 34mm Mikuni BDST. The '83 had a Vacuum Port which isn't there on the later Carbs. There are Differences in the Jetting, though. I'm pretty sure you need to change all Jets to fit to the other 3 Carbs. -
Now Eck, go and get a '09 Vmax and start all over again !!! :rotf::happy34:
