  1. No Pics here either, but when your using short Loops(actually a very good Idea, no one should do without them) you place them Loops above the lower Fork Yoke. One on each Side and tie the Fork down there very tight. Try to use the Rachtets on both Sides equally. Might also be good Idea to let the Air out of the Fork before you start to tighten them down finally. At the rear you only need to pull the Bike down a little bit, place the Ends of the Strapy more to the Outside to prevent the Bike from sliding to or right Side.
  2. Sounds like the Main Switch to me. They are known to loose Contact and the Bike will be dead. When wiggling on the Key, the Bike will start right up. If this is the Culprit, it needs to be adressed soon, because the Contacts aren't getting any better and there will be a Time when restarting won't work anymore.
  3.:think: I'm Sorry, but this does only mean you havea warm and comfortable a Place to work on your Bike. If your Wife doesn't like to see you working on the Bike in the "Living Room", you could easily add a Door and you're out of her Sight !!!:crackup: you know like .... Mummy, Mummy i can't see you slaving away, could you please close the Kitchen Door ?? :hurts:
  4. C3 means a bit more radial Bearing Slack. Sorry, i had a Typo and a Brain Fart combined. C3 Bearings are Sort of rare Breed. It wouldn't harm anything when you can't have them. But if the Vendor carries them, i'd take these. 6303 2RS.C3
  5. My first Encounter with a Venture was at the Times when the Vmax hit European Soil. The Bike was all over the Magazines and i read that Yamaha took the Venture Motor and developed the Vmax. I really wasn't into Touring Bikes at the Time, so i took only a short Glance over the VR and cleared the Memory later. I couldn't afford a Vmax anyway, so this was it and i stuck to my CX500Turbo. Fast Forward .... When i got back into serious riding in 2000, i bought a Vmax more or less out of an Accident. I got very involved into the Max and i was shopping for a bigger, touring capable Bike and we took several Test Rides on new Bikes. But they couldn't got me hooked up to their Motor Concepts, BMW, Yamaha FJR, modified Hayabusa and what not else.... I was desperately seeking for the right Bike with the right Motor in it, when my Memory stood up one Time and i remembered the displaced VR Motor Story (thinking about a big Tourer when your deep into the Vmax Crowd is definitely a No-No here). I figured if i was gonna sink a Lot of Money into a new Bike which i'm not gonna like anyway, i could easily spend a Lot less Money into a Bike, i already have some Knowledge about and spent half the Money to get a decent Ride i'd actually love to ride. So, i cought the '93 from Ebay in 2002 at fairly cheap Money, did the needed Repairs, Clutch Brakes and a complete full Service, and love my VR. My Wife was very pleased with my Decision and she loves to ride since we have been out for the first Time. She was a Bit reluctant about riding before, because she always feared falling off the Max big Time.
  6. Get a good Industrial Brand like Timken, SKF, INA, Koyo and you'll be fine. Watch out for the Digits after the Bearing Number... i.e. a ZZ is both sides sealed, a C3 is elevated Bearing Lask, which would be nice to have. Can't say anything about the Price, but 34 Bucks each is definately too much.
  7. I totally agree
  8. Fuel Smell without a actuall Leak is usually a Vacuum Leak somewhere beneath the Carbs. Could be only the Rubber Plugs where the carb Balancing Device hooks onto, or the Carbs don't it snug in to Rubber Boots or the Rubber Boots are cracked. Let the Bike run on Idle and tale a Can of Brake Cleaner or anything else flammable and spray carefully Part by Part the Suspects. If the Idle raises, you found the Culprit.
  9. Froggy posted Months ago about Credit Cards Companies charging 29.99 Percent Interest. Compared to that, 15 Percent seems like a Bargain. Apparently Harley cannot rely on it's good Name in the financial World enough to get a Credit at somewhat normal Rates ? Why didn't they issue a Bond to their Customers with privileged Price on Accessories and Apparel ?
  10. Nope, those sealed Bearings have Lifetime Lubrication in them. No need to maintain them any further. When you press them back into the Rim, make sure the Spacer is in Place before inserting the second Bearing and don't press them too deep into the Rim. The Spacer should sit snugly between both inner Races, nothing more. If you push them too deep, you will damage the new Bearings.
  11. or, better said ... "which one you are ":crackup:
  12. I agree here, i'd buy a used Engine and be better and cheaper off .... There has tobe a Reason and until this is unknown, i'd be very reluctant to sink a Lot of Money into the Repair. Or are you going to a big Bore Kit with 1500cc ??
  13. It's in Australia. A Lot of People dying there because the Heat there. + 40 ° Celsius on each and every Day.
  14. Bill, get yourself a Max and be done with that silly Idea immediately !!! :happy34: Giving up riding as early as at 75 ?? Pffffft .... You'd better shift to 4th Gear instead of Neutral !!!
  15. You're leaving at least half of the Fun unused !!! Wind that Beast up until you hit the Limiter, you can't damage anything.
  16. :scratchchin: Might try to cure that with a good Dose of Seafoam, this Stuff does Miracles !!! If not, change Battery Filter, recharge Battery and put new Plugs in .... :happy34:
  17. I assume they said not specific on that Bike, but on all Sports Bikes ... If so, that's Bogus ... I don't know nothing specific about your Katana, but a K&N won't hurt a bit. Probabaly, with free flowing Aftermarket Pipes you could have a bit lean Mixture. Regarding the Filter Capabilities of a K&N Filter. It depends A LOT on the Amount of Filter Oil spended on the Filter. Spray the Filter thin and from a fairly wide Distance. If you soak the Filter with Oil, it won't let any Air go through it at all.
  18. The European Number System is different than US. You just can't compare the VIN's. My Reservation # was 780 in Europe, the VIN is 881 (i think). Star is sending out Numbered Badges which mount to the Frame with a rolling Number on it. We here in Europe got to choose up to 8 Characters engraved in one personal Badge. Australia/New Zealand get's 2 Badges with "1 of 150 of the first Edition" or something like that. Here's a pdf with six Pics of my Badge 1.5 MB Pdf They sent me a personalized Brochure and a DVD with interesting Material on it in October along with the Badge and for Christmas i got a special Book about the 10 Years of Development of the new Bike and the Goals they wanted to achieve. I'd love to be allowed to mount a Shotgun on a Vehicle, but it isn't allowed here...
  19. Albeit the german Women's Team is one of the best in the World, i like Women's Soccer a Lot less than Male Games. That's just less powerfull and and a Lot more boring.
  20. Ivan, why don't you get yourself into serious Sports, i.e. Soccer .... :rotf: If you find Football boring and can't stand it, try to watch a Soccer Game. There you can see some really overpayed Men chasing a Ball for 90 Minutes Stupidity. I admit i like watching the national Soccer Teams, but other than this, Soccer is much more boring than a most of the Football Games i've seen. And in opposite to a Lot of Super Bowls before, this Game was one of the best Games i'd happen to see. And on Top of that, the better Team AND to my liking, my favorite Team won.
  21. Thanks again for all the good Wishes. I promise to behave, at least for the first 300 mls :whistling:. That Thingy next to the Tach is a LED Shift Light Indicator. You can program that Light for either blinking or steady Light at selected RpM. You can either program any Gear at the same RpM or each Gear individual on different RpM. I'm satified with the Idea, but i think there could have been a better Place or better said a better fitting LED Cluster around the Top of the Tach. It looks like someone ordered such a Thing to attach and the Engineers didn't have enough Time to make it look better. One of the Things i don't like. I really like the other Display. When you turn the Key on, it says "Time to ride, this is VMAX" and when you turn the Key off, it says "See you next Time". Neat Idea, this secondary Display shows a Lot of Info, Clock Fuel Level, Gear selected, 1st or 2nd Trip Odo , Water Temp you can switch to another Mode and see the TPS Angle and whatnot else ... The EFI is very sophisticated. It has a complete Onboard Diagnose, you can test each and every Sensor with the ECU without using external Device. And this Ride sure has a LOT of Sensors. I'm having the Shop Manual for quite a while, but even while i'm reading back and forth every now and then i´'m not waded through the 500+ Pages. I really expect them to built a 3rd Gen Venture around this Bike. The Airbox is huge (9 Liters/ 2.2 gal.) and when you loose this Volume, there go some Horses. If they redesign the Area and fit a classic Tank on Top of the Motor instead of the Airbox, there's enough Volume created to have a serious Tank Volume. I'll keep you in the Loop :thumbsup2:
  22. Jonas, i don't know ..... Probably this icelandic Beer will shake me up after a fine and calm ride :doh: What Beer would be your Call ? Viking ? Egils ? Mini, just send the Muffin Man over here, i'll take care of him.
  23. YES ... Here it is I Second that !!!!
  24. Well Folks, thank you for the well Wishes. First Mods will be Handle Bar, Mirrors, Master Cylinders, Speed Governor Removal and Head Light. I will build rear Sets sooner or later and one of my Buddies works on a bigger Tank already. 17 Inch Rims will be on the List as well. Since this Engine is slightly smaller than a 1Gen/Vmax/2Gen Engine it would mechanically fit into the Frames. But i seriously doubt that the Frames are up to the Job with the Thrust this Motor spills. Lynn, all you gotta do is take a Plane, come over and we will make it happen. Actually, the Seat is very wide and comfortable, all you need is a more comfy Backseat and a Faring to have a Starter Package for Long Distance Touring. Adding Saddlebags and a Trunk shouldn't be much of an Effort. Highway Pegs will be a challenge because of the missing lower Frame in front of the Bike, but we will make it happen, though. But since this is a VMAX i will take the opposite Route and chop off what's unnecessary.
  25. Ok, Ok, i made the Pics smaller :D
