  1. I engine brake, meaning I down shift a gear let the clutch out, down shift again let the clutch out to help slow the bike down. I believe most people here do this also. When I get below 10 I go ahead and shift into 1st.
  2. Bikes loaded, jumping in the shower, then taking Krome Rose out for breakfast before hitting the road to Herndon VA. Hopefully I have time to hook up with some of you who live in the area. Not too sure how much time I will have. My co-worker who went to this course earlier this month said the classes started at 8 am and ended at 7 pm. Doesn't leave much time for anything else. Tuesday might be the only day I get out at a decent time since that's the end of the first class I am taking. Like I said I hope I can hook up with some of you, but not too sure. If not then hopefully we can get together in Asheville.
  3. Most times you can just tap it back in with a rubber mallet. I haven't heard of anybody using epoxy or anything else to keep it in. Mine came out once and I just tapped it back in. Haven't had a problem since.
  4. Seems a bit pricey for a 2000 to me. Purdy bike though.
  5. The current radios are NOT capable of getting the programing from other provider(read more money from us), so the ala cart service will only be for either XM or Sirius. Once the merger is approved and in writing the radio manufactures are going to build radios that will receive both signals and then you will be able to choose from both providers. According to what I read on the deal the radios could be available around Christmas. Go figure. I'm holding off getting my GXM-30 for the Zumo because I'm hoping they come out with one that will receive both. No since paying up front now, then having to do it all over again.
  6. Can you say "CUT OFF":rotfl:
  7. To be honest when I bought my RSV it had Avon Venoms that had 3000 miles on them. They never gave me a good feeling in the corners, especially in the rain. It felt as if I had to work to get the bike to turn into the corners, the bike wouldn't want to lean and when it did it snapped over farther than I wanted. I gave them a thousand miles or so and still hated the feel. Changed to Michelin Commanders and have been happy since. So in fact there are others out there who don't like the Avon Venoms. Everybody has their own preferences and that's fine. I know some who swear by Metzlers, go figure. I might give the Dunlop Elite III's a try, they are about the only tire I haven't put on one of these bikes.
  8. Sounds to me like too much rear brake was used and the fluid boiled. That has caused many a accidents in the mountains.
  9. The BB King Concert is $35.00 on top of the tickets to Biltmore. I'm figuring it will already have been a long day, so Brandy and I will pass on BB King.
  10. I read on the Zumo forums that SD cards up to 4G were fine, but there are 4G and up SD cards that are using the new SDHC format (Secure Digital High Capacity) which the Zumo's have problems reading. They do read some of them, but as buddyrich stated it takes longer. I use a 2G card and have 200 songs and still haven't used but half the cards capacity. As for maps, when you upgrade the procedure replaces the current map with the newest one. I just did it. The process to upgrade the Zumo takes about 2 hours. The other things that can be stored on the SD card are jpegs, POI's, and Waypoint files, and yes they can all be stored on the same card.
  11. Actually the music can be downloaded directly to the SD card you put into the Zumo 550. I do it all the time. Look for it in My Computer or use Explore to find it.(right click on Start then left click explore) When you plug the Zumo into the USB port it comes up as 2 drives. One being named Garmin, and the other should be named USB mass storage or something like that. It should be the LAST drive letter. Make an MP3 folder in there and download all your music into it. You can also put pictures on it and view them with the Zumo. That part was great on our last trip, we were able to take the Zumo into the restaurant with us and look at pictures we took to determine if we wanted to keep them or not. As for converting files, well there are a lot of programs that do that stuff free. Go to download.com and do a search for MP3 converter. Or just rip the songs from CD's in the MP3 format.
  12. Mini I'll go with the pocket 3X. Thanks
  13. It is a sad situation for sure. We had a young Marine killed over the weekend on the road I take every day to and from work. An 84 year old women pulled out in front of him. He was killed instantly and all they cited her for was failure to yield. Of course she said she didn't see him. Why on earth would you say different, even if you did see him. I don't know if he was wearing proper PPE or what he was riding on, but I do know that Marines he was a 2nd LT, are required to wear proper PPE to include helmet, jacket, hard sole shoes and full finger gloves at ALL TIMES. And it is possible that the insurance will not pay up if they are not wearing it. I know of some Marines who were not wearing proper PPE and were injured. They ended up having to pay for their medical bills.
  14. Mini put us down for 2.
  15. I'm not sure but I think that is out of the norm. I have 74,000 miles on my 99 and have not replaced the stator.
  16. Here is the complete Marshall Mod converting both 1st and 2nd Gens to the firestick. http://www.bludolphintravel.com/gmg/marshallmod.htm
  17. To each his own. It's obvious to me that you all are smarter than the engineers who design tires.
  18. Thanks for the heads up, I just started the DL. It says it's going to take 21 minutes. It is a 2 Gig file.
  19. Only problem is the CT is not designed to be ridden on the side, the Avon is.
  20. I'm not going to tell you what tire to get, but I will tell you to not get the Metzler. The best place I have found online to get tires is. Southwest Moto. http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=SWMT&Category_Code=MTCYTIRES If you buy two then shipping is free. If they have the tire in stock I usually get them in 3 days and I live on the East coast.
  21. That's a big Negatory there Mini-muffin. She already ordered a different shirt. Thanks
  22. Give it to your insurance to handle first. They have lawyers on retainer for such occasions. That's why you pay them. If they can't get it resolved then you hire a lawyer and go after Geico and the other driver.
  23. You are not going to find a lower price than here. http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Stebel11185&Category_Code=Security
  24. Bottom line is that if someone wants your bike they are going to get it. Nothing you can do to stop it. While I don't leave my key in the ignition I have been known to forget it, and low and behold the bike is still there in the morning. I honestly don't think I have ever locked my bike. I did have one of those anti-theft things that cut the fuel off if you didn't disable it before you started the bike on my 550 Maxim, but that got to be a real pain cause I kept forgetting to disable it. At hotels I just cover the bike with a half cover and get a good nights sleep.
  25. I rarely run 2 up. My wife has her own ride, so if I were to guess how many miles on a tire I ride 2 up is somewhere in the area of 400 miles. You do live in the East but not the Eastern Seaboard, I have been to PA and it's a different riding environment than Eastern North Carolina. I have a good friend who lives in Harrisburg so I know what the area where you live is like. Most streets in that area have more elevation from one end to another than we have here going from one county to another. I'm guessing stopping and starting on inclines tends to wear the tires just a tad more. Just the other day my GPS said I was 32 feet above sea level, I got all excited. Then I realized I was crossing a bridge. I guess we can agree to disagree.
