Was it about repairing it or removing the tumblers to put into the new switch so you can use the original key? Muffinman knows how to do that. I have seen it somewhere before and it doesn't look to difficult.

Personally I feel that changing the pads while leaving the caliper on is a great way to damage the rotor. It takes all of 2 minutes to take the caliper off so why risk it? Just my opinion.

The saddlebag problem might be a bent rod. I had something like that happen once and took the mechanism apart and found one of the rods bent. Straightened it out and lock worked perfect ever since. The antenna is a warranty item.

It's a relatively easy process. Remove right saddlebag, that gives you access to the brakes. Take the caliper off and before you take the pads off you will want to recess the pistons but first clean the area all around them so you don't mess up the seals. You will have to crack the zert open to release pressure. Once you have the pistons recessed then tighten the zert back down. From there you have to pop the plastic cover off the top and then pull the two pins out and replace the brake pads. *NOTE* Make sure you observe which way the piece of metal is on the top of the caliper that is being held in place by the two pins, it is important to put it back the same way or the pins won't fit properly. Once the pads are replaced and everything is back in place and secure you will have to bleed the rear brakes. I highly recommend bleeding the brakes, these machines are real heavy and you need all the stopping power you can get. Use a piece of aquarium pump tubing over the zert to direct the brake fluid into a can or something. It WILL mess the paint up if you allow it to get on the bike.

Guess they don't like me at that forum. Applied for membership Saturday and still have not been activated.

Not sure what he is needing for her bike, but I have a 87 Virago that is in need of a fuel pump if you have one. Not even sure if they are the same pump though.

Anyone have dealt with these guys?
SaltyDawg replied to Maritimer's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Ok how this place works is like this. You order something online for a ridiculously low price. Part of your information is giving them a contact number so they can verify your purchase. They call you back the next day to "Verify" your purchase and want to sell you accessories that go with it. Accessories I might add that cost 4 times what you can purchase them for in a retail store. If you are dumb enough to buy the accessories you will get your product is short order. If on the other hand you decide to not purchase the accessories then all of a sudden it's on back order for 6 weeks. Then 8 weeks later when you call back about your purchase (Oh yeah I forgot to mention they already have taken your money) they try the same scam again with the same results. BTW there are at least 6 different websites that use numbers and the word photo in them and they all are the same company.- 14 replies

Personally if she is going up and down mountain roads I would go with the Honda Reflex, but that's just my opinion.

It's funny how people who haven't been to MB Bike Week are condemning it. I go every year and really enjoy it. I have yet to run into the 1%'ers mainly because they stay down in Murrels Inlet and I only go there once during my visit. Even then everybody is great, polite and for the most part well behaved. My wife feels safer amongst the biker crowd than she does walking through a shopping mall. Myrtle Beach is PO'ed because the main rally was moved from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center out to Hard Rock Park. The city counsel can cry and moan all they want, but in the end they will have to listen to the local business owners who will lose millions of $ if Bike Week doesn't go on. Every local merchant I talked to this year "LOVE" the Spring Rally, it's ABB that they leave town for. One guy said that last year during ABB his place ran out of food one night and they almost burned it down. You never hear of that happening during the main rally. He said he was going to take vacation during that week along with 60% of the rest of the local merchants. A lot of Bikers bought time shares in MB just for Bike Week. Imagine how angry they will be if their sole reason for purchasing a time share was taken away. The wife and I almost bought one and thought better of it.

I would tell him have one on hand before I took the bike in to him. So you don't have to make the trip twice. Your shock is bad, so have them change it.

I get those all the time when my wife rides with me. A light polishing compound will take it out. As said above as long as it's just a scuff and not scratches.

sirius/xm antenna under fairing???
SaltyDawg replied to bugfish69's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I know of a few people who have XM antennas in the front fairing. Unless you are in the Southern US I would imagine you would lose reception when you are heading North. I could be wrong. I have heard that those who put them in the fairings have no problems. -
Just PM him he will answer back quick, he checks several times a day.

LOL That's a good idea. Is that actually a tank bag? How do you have the dog secured in it and does it enjoy the ride? Reason I ask is that I have a 4lbs Pom and would like to take her around with me on cooler days. She isn't real big, if I squeezed her hard enough I could get her to about the size of a Softball. LOL

Which one were you referring to? The the Asthma-hound Chi-hoowaa-hoowaa, or the Annoying Thing?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
-
Heck what I want to know is what is your fuel mileage? LOL maybe it's better with them on backwards.:rotf:

Since the first two were already answered I'll take the next. 3. YES!! If I am not mistaken the 440 doesn't have an MP3 Player or take a SD card, the XM radio option is only with the 550. If you get one of BuddyRich's cables and you have a Bluetooth compatible phone you will not be disappointed. 4. Check Ebay, I have seen them there for in the $160.00 range.

Ignition switch or other??????
SaltyDawg replied to Red1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It sounds like the switch. Bypassing it will get you started, replacements are about $100.00 from what I have read. Glad the owner was there to help you out. See there really are nice people left in this world. -
Question on Higher Output Stator
SaltyDawg replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I remember correctly the car heaters come on at 63 and go off at 67. For some reason those numbers come to mind. Either way I pulled the fuse shortly after frying my battery using heated gloves and socks. Since then I have had no problem with power or icing. -
Question on Higher Output Stator
SaltyDawg replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I look at it this way, those carbs are sitting on top of a big ole V-4 with a metal gas tank reflecting radiant heat back down. I find it hard to believe they would ice in any condition. Those race car guys are also looking for ways to get a tenth of a second more, heated blankets over the engine, heaters in the oil tank, running hot water through the radiator all that to get another .1 sec. I don't think it's as much to make them optimal as it is to have them warm up to racing temp quicker to get optimal HP and speed. -

I told you that you would like it. That thing is pretty big compared to the stock one huh? Glad you got it installed, congrats! -
Question on Higher Output Stator
SaltyDawg replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If there was a problem with icing then I would expect it to happen on every carbed vehicle on the planet. It can't be common only to planes and the RSV. I know we feel like we are flying at times, but it is only wishful thinking. LOL I'm not arguing the point but, until someone actually reports they had their carbs ice up, I feel having the extra power going to my lights and/or heating equipment is a better deal.
