  1. Ditto!!!
  2. I wish I could say "Today nothing will happen" or "Today a deer will run in front of me, or a driver will cut me off"... BUT I CAN'T Unfortunately I do not know what may happen every time I ride, so I dress accordingly. I wish I could say "I don't give a Rat's A$$ what you wear or don't wear, including a helmet when you ride" BUT I CAN'T Unfortunately I know life is a precious gift from God and that he loves all of us regardless, and so do I. I can not help but to care about each and every one of you and just pray that you have a safe journey every time, and if you do not, that you had the sense to be prepared for the worst...
  3. Heck, that's barely broken in!! It's nothing to get well over 100,000 miles on these and I've heard of over 200,000 miles more than once. Whatever that mileage is in Canadian...
  4. Yup, upper fairing and most dash pieces are the same for MK1 and MK2. Tach is different on cluster between MK1 and MK2 only due to cruise light but are basically interchangeable. Right dash inserts are different between MK1 and MK2 due to location of CB and CLASS. Engine covers are different from MK1 and MK2 due to the vents, but are interchangeable. Sorry, but all my upper fairings need repair, and I've prety much ran out of dash pieces. Send PM for anything else you may need...
  5. Prayed even before I opened the thread, Ben! We will continue to pray for him.
  6. Nice!! A red one! I usually see them blue or black or occasionally a white one but very rarely do I see a red one! Friend of mine had a Navy blue '66 and it was a blast to drive. Good to hear from you!
  7. You were probably having trouble because he spells it "Carbon One" not 1...
  8. Front fork configuration changed for '89 to '93 as opposed to '86 - '88 but either configuration will work, ie change the fork assembly unit. Front fork assy for '83 - '85 is different. Saddlebage and trunk are different on '83 to '85, along with the headlights. The early models, '93 - '85, also known as the MK1 can be upgraded to '86 up, also known as MK2. MK1 engines are 1200c, MK2 are 1300cc but many engine components such as covers, carbs, etc are interchangeable with some ewxceptions with the '83. MK1 and MK2 calipers are different. The rear differential is different on MK1 and MK2 but the rear tires can be interchanged as long as you change the rotor and gray plastic dust shield. Most plastic is interchangeable but you have to use the MK2 engine guards to use the lower chin. The engine guards are interchangeable, but the MK2 has brackets added to them for the "chin." Basically, just ask specifics for whatever you want to change and we will tell you what will work...
  9. OK the abreviated version of Gary's write up, on the '83 the vacuum is 180 degrees out of phase from the '84 up, so your ignition advance is going to be wrong. It will run but won't respond correctly to accdeleration. Yes, this timing error can cause the engine to run hotter...
  10. Yah! We be home safe and sound for about a 1/2 hr already, and are enjoying a glass of haunted wine...
  11. I would say the hardest part of replacing it is getting the 6 metric allen head screws out. They are loctited in, and the best thing to do is to heat them first to soften the loctite. Use blue loctite sparingly when reinstalling, a little dab will do you... For EBC's you may want to try Rick at Buckeye as ventureriders gets a discount, and I think Skydoc17, Earl is also selling them.
  12. PM sent to JC...
  13. Yah!! 14 or 16 gauge wire should be fine...
  14. Looks like the Diamond R cover that was discontinued last year. To my knowledge I purchased the last one available at the International at the Hub last year...
  15. Joined about a year, give or take a couple of months, before the great crash. Some of the first people I made freinds with was JGorom (RIP), Marcarl, Squidley, E Fishin C, Granpagak (Woomp), Condor (Just Jsck) and a few others. I actually joined Venturers with a 3 year membership but clicked a lot better with this group. Absolutely LOVE the site mainly because of the people, and wouldn't trade it for the world!!! PS yes I remember Dallas but haven't seen him on for a long time...
  16. Uhhhh, because you are driving a Venture and passing other makes frequently????
  17. **SIGH** It's gonna be a long winter...
  18. ...Or Delo 15W40 from Auto Zone. As stated, no energy conserving additives or any additives as we have a "Wet" clutch and the additives make the clutch slip. If you have less than 30K on the engine you might want to stay away from synthetic as your engine still has to put some wear on it to properly seat rings to cylinders, etc. A certain amount of mechanical wear is a good thing to make the rings fit precicely in the cylinders, the rod bearings to precicely fit the crank, etc. Synthetic oils are actually too slippery to let this initial wear in happen. Using Diesel oil in our motors is perfectly acceptable!
  19. Size is available at Auto Zone...
  20. My pictures didn't come out much better, I would have to pull off one of the florboards to make the picture better. As far as side play, I never had any, and if your muffler is that losoe then there's a problem...
  21. Yes, what you have to do is make a set of hangers to mount the mufflers. I used 1 inch aluminum bar stock to make mine. I had spares but the last set I sent to a guy in New Mexico and a month later I got the torn remains of the envelope from the Post Office with a note of apology that the post sorter machine ate the contents! I hung the straps using the bolt whrere the rear subframe bolts to the main frame. I'll try to take pictures this evening if I can but my '84 is buried under stuff in the gtarage. Someone else mentioned using a rubber piece from a car shock mount to do the same job...
  22. I found putting a 2X6 under the REAR tiredid the trick. I had a piece sut the exact length of my saddlebag and kept it in there. I would just roll, or drive the bike onto the 2X6 and it was then really easy to pop it up using the heal of my shoe while standing next to the bike pointing the same direction as the bike and just pull backwards holding both the handlebar and the passenger grab bar. Yes, I kept the kickstand down just in case... Driving forward was the most effective way to do it but it could be done on or off the bike to dismount from the center stand (or Centre Stand for you Canadians) without starting the bike. Make sure the pivot points for the stand are wel lubricated as well, that helps big time!!
  23. Comfort Inn has my vote!!!
  24. Folks, I know the scoot, and aside from the high mileage, this ride is in excelent shape mechanically and cosmetically!
  25. Well, that was a quick resolution to your problem, eh Steamer?!!?
