  1. Yes, I have been thinking of him often and he has been in my prayers...
  2. Pretty classic looking guys! Congratulations!!!
  3. I once saw a trunk with a metal plate fabricated and drilled and bonded to the whole area inside the trunk there...
  4. OK the R1's are direct bolt on with the MK2 and 2nd Gen but you need the 4 piston which is '05 and older I think. You can switch to the MK2 rear 4 piston caliper, which is still being used on the 2nd gens, but you also need the caliper mounting arm, and you have to modify the pivot on the swing arm to a larger diameter, and you have to change out the rear rotor as well. I agree, I kind of like the linked brakes...
  5. Yah! I'm trying to go the other direction myself, want QUIET!!! If it helps you, you want 2" ID inlet. You could try some thrush mufflers or a pair of Cherry Bombs. I'm going with some mufflers 22" long from a Ford Aerostar I think...
  6. Well, that answers my question from Evan's thread! I too have the RPM stator but as you, know Goldie hasn't been running for quite a while now so I can't quote the longevity. It waqs only the early MK1's that needed the cooling modification, the later ones had a factory fix. I might still havfe one of those kits laying around but at this point I'm not sure where it would be if I do indeed dtill have it...
  7. Hmmm, try the rear again, and if you get fluid there, the rear master is probably OK. Instead I would look at the proportioning valve or the metering valve having a piece of junk blocking them. The proportioniong valve is bolted onto the rear master cylinder, and the metering valve is bolted onto the frame near the battery just before (or is it just after) the bleeder on the line...
  8. OK what happened to Blondie???
  9. Yes, my bad! For some reason I was thinking the MK2 calipers only had pistons on one side and were a two piston instead of a 4 piston!! It's been a while since I worked on them! Been too busy researching Honda automotive calipers and replacing the brakes on the Monte Carlo! Without thinking about it I gave the reasoning behind bistons on both sides as opposed to pistons on one side only! The advantage of the R1's is they are lighter weight and as Squeeze mentioned, far superior in design! They are also a lot less expensive and easier to rebuild...
  10. Sorry to hear that Kenny, it would have been nice to renew our friendship! If you ever do get up this way be sure to stop in!!!
  11. the difference is you have force squeezing the calipers on both sides, not jamming the caliper together, and double the force area on the pads, the area of the stock on the one pad plus the area on the second pad...
  12. It's a fair price depending on the condition of them, but not the deal of the century. Shipping is the biggie! It would be a good idea to rebuild the shocks and put progressive shocks in them as long as they are off the bike anyway. That will avoid taking them off at a later date and you would know everytrhing is fresh. Stainless steel brake lines are also an improvement as they do not expand like rubber lines do. You should also hunt around for a set of Yamaha R1 calipers as they are 4 piston as oposed to 2 piston that the MK2 calipers are...
  13. You may have gotten a bad tank of gas...
  14. So, is the plant OK?? Wow, a minute sooner and you would have been too close for comfort...
  15. What an eye opener!!! Motorcycle Tom is going to be jealous!!!

    trip

Well, from the Peace Bridge take the Skyway (NY route 5) west and follow it down to Irving NY. Right where US Route 20 joins it there is an excellent place for gas at the Seneca Hawk gas station. Being on a Native American reservation at that point, there is no tax on the gas, and unlike in Canada they do not care if you are native american or not and there is no "card" involved. From there stay on Rt 20 until you cross into PA and head south instead of west on 20 as once you get into Ohio there are a lot of towns to go thru and it takes forever...
  17. Yah!! That Stalion is looking for a Touring Queen to mate with!! Sure is purdy...
  18. Significant enough to notice a difference. Inside the anti dives is a piston/plunger that restricts hydraulic flow in the shocks limiting the travel of the shock tube. Although a lot smaller in diameter it still represents a load on the applied force from the master, and requires moving a slight additional volume of brake fluid. I am assuming Yamaha realized that the brakes on the Venture needed improving so that is probably why with the MK2 they went to bigger brakes and went with the electric antidives...
  19. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Midicat!!!
  20. Yes, the weight of the bike does play a huige role in the stopping power of any bike. It's a lot easier to stop a 500 lb bike than a 900 lb any day. There is also another factor though, the MK! ('83 - '85) have inadequate brakes to begin with. The MK2 brakes were a vast improvement with the 2 piston calipers and larger rotors, along with the anti dive being converted to a solenoid instead of the brake power robbing hydraulic setup! It costs a lot to convert as the front forks have to be changed out along with the rotors and calipers but it does make a night and day difference. Add stainless steel brake lines that don't flex like the rubber lines do which robs braking power and you will notice even more improvment in braking! The final step is to install calipers from an R1 which are 4 piston calipers. Of course you can always delink your rear from the front and have 2 brakes working with the front brake instead of one...
  21. Yes, the stock tool in the tool pouch actually works very well, but I too use a thin walled socket and a u joint and a medium extension....
  22. Did you use the longer screws supplied with the windshield? Also there should have been some plastic collars. I found some metal collars from a 1st gen that I used instead and they worked out pretty good. You can repair your plastic with the 2 part plastic epoxy (ABS) available at Auto Zone, etc. for about $7. Mix up a glob of it and you can use it as filler and drill, sand or file it, it literally makes new plastic. It cures quite fast, in about 10 minutes or so, and you can only work with it for around 5 minutes or less...
  23. Yah!! You're gonna love it!!!
  24. Yes, rule number 1 in insurance claims, NEVER take the first offer!! that pretty much applies to the second offer as well. The longer the claim drags on, the more interested the insurance companies are in settling the matter, especially when they have to pay storage fees for the property while they are settling... Heal well and fast my friend, looks like you have a wonderful family who needs you healthy!!
  25. I have to admit this has been one of the most entertaining threads in a while, right up there with the Dear Mr. Freebird or the WHY threads!! Very original and at least the OP showed maturity enough to respond in an intelligent manner. I really don't think anyone flamed you, and yes you are right there were several chest beaters but what do you expect from members of any successful organization??? We are all proud members here otherwise what would the point be of being a member? As was mentioned several pointed out this is more than a website, it is a FAMILY! Attend one of our events or monitor the site for a while and you will see that! We do tend to be a more seasoned age bracket but we have had members as young as 16 in the past. I have never found a community quite as caring and giving as this group!! Another point I would like to make is that it never costs a cent to just read, and there is a wealth of technical information here. Once again this site is about way more than just technical information. It is also about companionship! I amy be wrong, but the topic of your post, along with your references to socialism and free society suggests to me you are in college in a liberal arts program. I hope this experience has been useful towards your research and education. I am hoping that you are still reading the responses here and so far I haven't seen anyone bid you ill, but rather several invitations to stay around for a while...
