I always keep an eye on what is going on behind me. Coming back from Nelson on the Hope/Princeton there was a semi in front of my wife who was driving her van. I was behind her with a B train tanker riding my back. We were doing 120K ( 75 mph) in the rain through the twisties. I watched the second unit of the B train fishtail several times but he would not back off. There was no place for us to pull over. I kept an eye out for escape routes just in case. If the semi in front had hit the brakes we would have been the meat in the sandwich. On the other hand, 101F in the shade here on Saltspring and lots of G+T handy and no place to be. Kinda makes up for it.

Havn't tried beads but the sheepskin works well. I have a black one to match the midnight special. Didn't get a chance to use it at Nelson this year. Sure could have used it last year.

Ribs? Try BBQ sauce, I understand they go well together.

We have lots of them here. I put up a feeder once and they got very aggressive. One would feed then hide on the deck and when another one came along he would attack. The others soon worked out a team play, one would attract his attention while the other one fed, then they would switch places. It was neat to watch. A friend has over 200 nesting on his property.

Something which has been in use among boaters here for at least 70 years is methyl hydrate as a fuel stabilizer and water remover. It is very cheap and can be found in most boating supply stores. I have used it and found it effective.

If ya can't say it right how do ya expect ta spell it right? Besides, it is for them Canadians east of the Rockies. Out west it is more like, cooool man, wow, man good stufff. BTW, them Cajuns are just transplanted Canadians from Acadia. The Brits kicked the French out of Acadia (East Coast) and sent a bunch down to Loozianer.

Unbolt everything then fire up the bike and let it run until the pipes are hot. This will cause the pipes to expand and hopefully loosen.

Just get even. Get him drunk and take pictures. Post them here.

Uncomfortable with heal toe shifter
Sailor replied to ToyOdie's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I had trouble with the heel/toe shifter at first (toe down/heel high) but now that I am used to it I really like it. -
Been using Venoms for 30 years on various bikes with no problems. Current set are about 4 years old.

Just got back from the Ride for Life in Victoria. It was their first ride. Miserable day ,rain, rain and more rain but we still had about 500 bikes out. Had about 1000 for the Ride for Dad. The difference is that all money raised on the Ride for Life goes to the local cancer clinic instead of going to Ottawa to be doled out. FYI the prostate cancer clinic in Victoria is the best in North America with a 95% survival rate as compared to 65% elsewhere. They called for a minute of silence and had a piper play a tune in recognition of "D" day, the allied invasion of Europe. Saw a couple first gens and a couple second gens there. Still had a good ride in the pouring rain. My oldest son was there, my youngest son buys odd ball bikes that are rarely on the road, and a friend who just bought his first bike. I told both of them I did not expect them to hang in as I was the only one who had experienced cancer ( twice now) but they both did. BBQ and band at the end of the ride. I met a couple who were examining my bike. They asked what it was. I told them and they said they had never heard of Yamaha or Venture. Obviously Yamaha has work to do. I think they were new Harley riders. I was surrounded by Hardleys and for the first time I noticed just how much bigger the Venture is than a Harley. It really stood out. Saw a guy trying to catch up to me going over the "hat". He was on a KTM or similar bike. I slowed down. I had been doing about 120 kph. I had to laugh. He had a jacket on but those yellow rain gear work pants with suspenders over the jacket. The pants were flaring out about 8 inches on each side. He was scooping up the rain as he rode. I think next year will be better.

There is another scam going around. If you get a request for donations to a cross country bike ride called "Bikes for Tots" it is false. It has the Royal Canadian Legion crest on it but the Legion has nothing to do with it. It seems to have originated in Regina. It has been reported to the cops. At the same time the "Ride for Dad" is organizing a cross Canada ride for later this year to raise funds for prostate cancer research. This is legitimate.

My mother in law got talked into a reverse mortgage. Not good. You lose the equity in your house. You are better off to sell it and keep the cash. When she had a heart attack the bank wanted full payment in 60 days or they foreclose! The interest fees do add up. That gives you next to no time to take care of the legal end and put it on the market. You can bet their fees would have eaten up anything that was left. You can get a loan against the equity in your house.

Battery keeps dying in the garage...
Sailor replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Make sure the radio/cb/tape deck is turned off. I had the same problem. I would use the radio or tape deck while riding and assumed it turned off when I turned the bike off. If I left the bike for a few days the battery would be dead. When I turned the radio/cb/tape off before shutting down the bike the battery would hold its charge. -
I remember the legendary fogs of London from long ago. Every flat and business had coal burning fireplaces, it was their only source of heat. Thick fog would roll in and mix with the heavy smoke from the chimneys at night. Even a seeing eye dog would not help. Glad I wasn't trying to drive in that stuff you were in. The worst I have driven in was when I had the drivers door open on my car to keep an eye on the white line.

I saw several first and second gens there. I was talking to the guy with the burgundy 2nd gen. He sometimes comes on this site. I met up with my son who lives in Langford and since I had just come over the hat and was returning the same way we went for lunch at the Waterwheel instead.

Found these guys on the car deck. They had pried open the trunk of their Cadillac and were trying to get into the car through the back seat. They had locked the keys inside the car. I told them I could pop the door for them. The driver picked up his jacket from the hood. There was a jingle and he said OH,OH then took the keys out of his pocket.

The Pacific war was largely fought by Americans. That is where you really proved yourselves. The European war was fought by many countries, all who fought with valor. The Pacific war was far from Europe and the only help you had was from Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and British. Their resources were depleted after years of war in Europe. It fell upon the Americans to take on the Japanese and you did a heroic job.

I agree, bikers need to ride and be aware. I also support graduated licencing. It is insane to allow any 16 year old kid to get his hands on a Ninja 1000 or a Hyabusa. That being said, on my way back from Victoria yesterday, I was at a red light waiting to turn left. The left turn signal came on and I started into the turn. A girl in a red car tried to cut me off by squeezing between me and the center divider. When I checked my mirror I was 2/3 of the way through the turn and she had her bumper about 6 inches from my rear end and was trying to inch her way inside. There was heavy traffic but I switched lanes anyway to get away from her. Later I was on the highway with no traffic around me. There was a green light ahead of me. Three cars were facing me, waiting to turn left. I know there is a left turn signal at this intersection so I knew they had a red light. When I got close a woman in a grey van turned left right in front of me against a red light. I got past her back end. As has been said " There is no cure for stupidity" On the way to and from the ride ride I did notice that the overhead traffic advisory signs flashed "Watch for motorcyclists." Perhaps we are getting through to the powers that be.
