  3. Dear Diary, Just moved to Texas! Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. It is beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here. June 14th: Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper. June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here. July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected. July 15th: Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this. July 20th: I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car now smells like Kibbles and $hits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun strikes again. July 25th: The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts. July 30th: Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and I can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come here? Aug. 4th: Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state. Aug. 8th: If another wise ass cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!! Aug. 9th: Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the seats in the car, I thought my ass was on fire. My skin melted to the seat. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass . . . Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat. Aug 10th: The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do •••• for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of cactus will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat. Aug. 14th: Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for you today?" My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Texas . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.
  4. There has been a change of venue for our M & E on Aug 6th (the Upstate NY Cruise & Cream). The Harbor Towne Belle cruise has been changed to a cruise on the Sam Patch packetboat on the Erie Canal(website: www.samandmary.org). We did not meet the minimum number of passengers for a trip on the Harbor Towne Belle. The cruise on the Sam Patch will start at 2:00 PM from the dockage at Schoen Place in Pittsford, NY. I have reserved 20 seats for this cruise and can change the total up to Tuesday the 2nd of Aug. We will leave my home at 1:00 PM for the ride to Pittsford. (Approx. 20/25 minute ride.) PLEASE NOTE THE NEW TIME FOR DEPARTURE FROM MY HOME. We will also have a complimentary shuttle service for everyone that is staying overnite, on Saturday night, at the two hotels listed in the original M & E notice (Holiday Inn Express & Hampton Inn). We will be offering adult beverages at the dinner after the cruise, and this will allow you to leave your bike at our home and be escorted to your hotel in the evening. You will also be picked up in the morning and returned to our home to retrieve your scoot. We will serve coffee and donuts, bagels, etc for a morning snack when you retrieve your scoot. Please let me know if you are staying overnight. If you arrive early on Saturday, we will be serving a light snack of “finger foods” before we leave from my home on Saturday. Please update your name on the calendar, if you want to delete your name or, if you have not previously signed up, and wish to participate, please do so ASAP. I will need a final count for the cruise by Aug 2nd. Thanks Jim
  5. Looking for riders to join us on the Midnight Run, the weekend of Aug 20th. The ride is sponsored by GWRRA - Michigan Chapter G. The ride starts 12:00am (midnight) in Rockford, MI, Saturday Aug 20 and arrives at the Mackinaw Bridge around 8:00am with 4 schedule stops along the way. Many events are schedule during the day at the Kewadin Casino in St Ignace, MI. More information can be found at http://www.mi-gmidnightriders.org/2011midnight_ride.htm. Those interested, a group will be putting their kickstands up at 8:00 pm, Friday Aug 19, at US-23 and North Territorial Rd, which is exit 49. We have a block of rooms reserved in Mackinaw City, but not many remain available. After taking in the schedule events and a nap, planning on a dinner run later that evening. Those who are not interested in riding the early hours of the morning, let’s plan a ride to meet the Midnight Riders Saturday morning. So VentureRiders in and around southeastern Michigan area let’s see if we can get to know each other and enjoy a weekend ride together.
  6. I've read some posts about fuel mileage, but didn't find the answers I need. Brand new, '09 TD, less than 600 miles. Crappy fuel mileage. I know the odometers are off, so that means I am getting 30 and less mpg. What if anything can I do, or tell the tech to do at the first service? We've got a 1000 mile/24 hr CVMA ride the first week of Aug. I need to better the mpgs by then if possible. Thanks for any and all help. I like this bike much better than my '07 R*, and know that I will never be able to match that fuel mileage. I just want to get it in the range of high 30's, low 40's. Thanks much, Eric Robbins

  14. This looks like a good event. I think my wife and I will try to make the first couple of days of this cross country ride. I'm working on getting specific information: Dave Barr, a double amputee veteran who rides, is organizing a contingent of riders departing from the Vietnam Memorial (The Wall) in Washington D.C. and ride across the country in a show of patriotism and honor. He and his group will be riding through the following states and all riders are welcome. His solo motorcycle journey took three and a half years to complete and spanned six continents and 83,000 miles. What makes it truly remarkable is that Dave made the trip on a 1972 Harley-Davidson® motorcycle with two prosthetic legs, the result of an 1981 land mine explosion. He pushed his way through the Sahara, Namibia, and Gobi deserts, slipped through the Andes during avalanche season and braved the unique challenges of riding across China, Russia, Australia, and Africa. Dave later went on to establish a Guinness Book World Record for crossing northern Europe, Russia and Siberia on a motorcycle in the dead of winter. Dave uses his experiences to tell story after touching story. His life lessons will enrich and empower you as he shares how he brought his vision to life by setting goals, staying focused, and overcoming obstacles. To find out more about his inspiring message or to get information about Dave speaking to your organization http://www.davebarr.com/images/FarWesternPoint.jpg Dave Barr sets New World Record! Dave’s most recent adventure earned him a second Guinness World Record. This time he went to Australia on his “Southern Cross” journey. In just 45 days, he completed the first motorcycle journey ever between the four extreme geographical corners of the Australian continent. A documentary is currently in the works about this amazing trip.

    America's 911 Ride

Anyone planning on attending? I went last year and I registered this afternoon to go back one more time. It is one awesome event. The plan: - leave St Thomas on the evening of August 13 and stay in the Burlington/Mississauga area (staying with friends and family); - leave Burlington early on August 14 and head towards Somerset, PA via US219. Arrive in Somerset by 3:30 pm (in time to take part in the escorted tours to the site of the Flight 93 Memorial); - stay at the Quality Inn Somerset on the night of Aug 14; - participate in the escorted ride to Arlington, VA on Aug 15. - stay @ the Doubletree Crystal City in Arlington for the night of Aug 15; - participate in the escorted ride to Ground Zero in NYC on Aug 16. - stay @ the NY Sheraton on 7th Avenue for the night of Aug 16; - participate in the ceremony at Ground Zero on the morning of Aug 17; - head home via NY State Thruway So far, there is myself and two buddies from Burlington. John and I did this trip last year for the first time, and it is quite a moving experience. By the time we come into New York City there are nearly 1,000 bikes in the procession. Some of the pictures from last year are at: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b320/BluesLover55/2007%20trips/Americas%20911%20Ride/ If you're interested in going, here is a link to the website: http://www.americas911ride.org/ Cheers, Lou
  16. Who's going to Sturgis and what are your plans? I thought it would be neat to see what VR's plans are for going to Sturgis. Where from, what the mileage will be, when will you arrive. Any big plans...Concerts, parties, venues etc. For me and the princess, we are leaving here the afternoon of July 31. Will arrive in Sturgis the afternon of Aug 1. No concerts or such planned. Just gonna hang out, go for a few rides, see the sites, just see what comes along. Leave on Monday, Aug. 4 towards Colorado. Hopefully by Wednesday be somewhere in Utah. We want to go through Arches Nat'l Park. Thursday start back towards home, which may include a night back in Sturgis Friday, Aug. 8th. And then home by Sunday the 10th. It is our big getaway for the summer and have been looking forward to it for way too long. Exception though will be in late July, going to Georgia to see and support our son graduate from Army boot camp at Benning. Flying for that, just not enough time to ride. For those going to Sturgis. Let me know. Maybe we can gather for a cocktail or two! Erns:thumbsup:
  17. Well its been 2 weeks since my hip replacement and I want to thank all of you that wished me well. ( Thanks !!!! you guys are great ) They took out the staples today and are letting me hobble around with a cane. It is really hard not to head up to the shop and get working again. Sitting around has never been my thing. The hip has healed great and I how have no pain in it at all. The bad thing is I will have to have the right knee replaced in Oct. ( Its a B..... getting old and falling apart ). I'm hoping I get the go back to work word from the Doc. on the 14th of Aug. I can handle a couple more weeks but just resting up and not being able to ride is the pitts. I hope everyone is having a great time out there on the open roads and keeping it safe. Have Fun and keep it between the ditches. Steve

  19. Has anyone had this applied to thier RSV? I brought the fairing, lowers, side triunks, and the top of the back trunk to a guy in my area to have it applied as a custom job. I bought the bike last Aug and had it exactly 2 days when the 1st scratch appeared, followed by 2 more in as many weeks. Thanks All for your input!
