  1. If you did, did you come down with Covid? I just read a report that " as many as 250,000" contracted Covid from Sturgis. First, I hope not. Second that would have been 1 out of 2 people attending. This is not a political discussion. I am just wondering if YOU went, did you avoid Covid or did you get it? Thanks for sharing. VentureFar...
  2. This I guess I'll never understand. The future of the Venture is in question. I went in to order some chrome for my 2009, and all but one part was discontinued. Now my first reaction was they were changing the Venture next year, and why make bling for a machine that is to be changed. OK, I guess I can live with that, but when I asked the sales staff, they knew of nothing. Same goes for the staff at the Star Tent at Sturgis this year. Now, don't ya think it would be to their advantage to get the word out to generate as much excitement as possible. Other auto manufacturers do. You can't really say it would kill the sales of the current 2011 Ventures, I've been in 8 stores over the last month here in Florida, and there are NO Ventures on the floor to sale. Harley has a big show of all their new an coming models at Sturgis, and you see in the news what is up and on the horizon for them. This is for a reason...it causes interest and excitement. Can Mother Star really be that stupid in the marketing field? It's not just them, it's all the metrics.. Wouldn't you love to know what's up? I sure would! I long for the day a non-Harley motorcycle company gets their sh*t together and starts to make the commitments necessary to become real competition for Harley, they already make a better bike, now act like it!
  3. Happy New Year Everyone: We were side lined more in 2012 than 2011 due to the death of both of my parents, but we did manage to make Sturgis for an entire week. Really enjoyed ourselves. The highlight of the trip was the suggestion to have a VR.org breakfast meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Sturgis Highschool FFA breakfast. We got to meet at least a 1/2 dozen more VR members in person. Thanks to Patrolman46 and TX2Sturgis for suggesting and planning the event. As far as 2013 goes, our wishlist is to make Kreg's MD and the International rally in Galena IL. We may not make Sturgis this year since it is right after the Galena trip? If anyone travels this way this season be sure to let us know.
  4. Hi All Quick history, kids all finally grew up and left so the wife and I took the summer and rode off on the bike. We call our bike "tweekers" cause I am always tweekin on it, hey dont laugh its old like me.. Anyway, we left in late june for the Dragon, piece of steel 2"x1" went thru brand new back tire on highway - tweekers on roadside, 100 degrees plus, bike and I both sweating, - tire repaired at a place called "Jims" in Johnson City Virginia - great work, showed me their upstairs FULL of really cool vintage bikes - should be a museum.. toured a week in dem dar Southen mountains of Georgia - Tennessee - Alabama - Kentucky and some coal mine ghost town type stuff in Virginia, came back via the Blue Ridge Pk Way, across the yupper mi, thru the upper states, did sturgis before the rally, down the west coast to Baydoga bay, shot over to Sacramento to see 2 of our kids living there - let them support us for 2 weeks while we toured Cali - another new rear tire - took both kids on 3 day trips to the National Parks, headed home - clutch died in Yosimite - more tweekin, found GOLD in Kings Canyon, huge traffic backup between Kings Canyon and Seqoyia NP doing MILES of road repair, down thru Death Valley - FANTASTIC moon lit night - nite riding Death Valley is AWESOME, tweeks LOVED the heat - it WAS hot there, more national parks, still headed for home , made it back to Utah, RAN THE BIKE ON THE BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS - 127 MPH FULLY LOADED WITH TENT AND ALL - wife took a video cause I knew my friends wouldnt believe me, still headed home via the sturgis rally. Needles Hwy, Custer, Deadwood, Lead, Hwy 16a all NOT as much fun with all the other bikes around - conjestion like California! Helped fix 3 broken bikes - all had Oil Pump Chain Tensioner problems - weird but true!! If I rode a new HD I would definitly go gear drive.. Main power wire for ignition on tweeks came unplugged, died on 90, HD rider I helped earlier stopped while I was dismantling bike, little more tweeking.. Sturgis was good again, I thought lower count than years past. Fun to hang out at sturgis on an old venture covered in NP stickers and dirt and tent on back and water jug hanging from antenna cause everyone stares at you and thats the point of the ralley hahahahaha.. Another week of camping (never been a hotel kinda guy, my WIFE spent almost 2 months living out of a tent with me on this one - over 17 thousand miles and only complained a couple times - about the heat..) Finally got back to Michigan at end of August, did some more tweekin and went chasing the REAL old bikes that were doing the "Cannonball".. Great summer!! Got "told" about Venturerider out at Sturgis of all places, wrote it down and just found it in my notes so here I am,, and the above is my story... NICE SITE HERE FOLKS!!! From what I have read and seen here it looks like my kinda place.. Scott
  5. Just made our finale plans for our trip. Big Mike and I will be in Sturgis on Aug. 5th . We have been talking about doing this for 10 years and its finally going to happen . I can't wait to get out there. I was out there in 1971 and need to refresh the memories of some of the stuff I seen at six. Now I need to make some 47 year old memories. Are we going to catch up to any VR members there for some fun ?
  6. Hello Everyone: Despite being in the black hills during the Sturgis rally the past 5 or 6 years we have never attended a concert. Until last year we stayed in Custer and always did day rides. Last year we stayed in Sturgis but still did not attend any concerts. I noticed on the web that concerts ticket prices at the Full Throttle range from $45-$60. Bluffalo Chip $52.50-$62.50. But concert tickets at the Broken Spoke for non campers like ourselves are only $20 each. Does anyone have experience with concerts during the rally and can explain the large difference in cost between the Broken Spoke and the others. My wife wants to ride DaBus and attend an evening concert. Is that crazy? Any thoughts or experiences are welcome. Thanks
  7. Anyone headed to sturgis this year? Got any plans once you get there? Were you coming from? Ridin or trailering? Campsite?
  8. I was just writing to DirtSquirt about his bike and asked him if and when he was going to be in Sturgis this coming year of 2012. I mentioned starting a new thread where we could post our dates to be in Sturgis so we can get together while we're there. I'd really like to meet some more of the VentureRider Brothers in person. Phoneman1981 & I met quite a few of the members in Cody last summer @ the International Rally. We are planning on being in Sturgis both weekends this coming summer. Let's get together next summer & have a Mini Rally in Sturgis. Any Ideas??????
  9. Sturgis pics! Of course the 'R' rated pics are not here. A couple of pics show me in front of some very new and very old items. Plus the lake you see is the Sylvan Lake. Very scenic. The pics of the vehicles on the road including mine, are of an accident we came across while riding in the Black Hills, and you can barely see a red ElectraGlide jammed under the guard rail. We were told at the scene the rider was alive...'for now'....we dont know the outcome, as we were all directed to turn around and head back the way we came. Not a good way to see the Black Hills...from an ambulance. I hope the rider survived.
  10. Hello Everyone: I hope all is well? Patrolman46 and I are making a 5 hour run today to Sturgis. Staying overnight in Sturgis at a local residence. Breakfast with some A.B.A.T.E buddies in the morning and riding back tomorrow. I know BJ66 and TX2Sturgis are there, and it appears Annie is also in the area . I would still like to meet other VR members. Give us a call 308-765-0167. Otherwise my wonderful wife and I hope to travel back to Sturgis on the 11th staying until Sunday the 14th. Take care everyone....
  11. Hello Everyone: My wife and I are still hoping to attend the rally later next week. We still have reservations in Custer on the 11th 12th and 13th. But may be relocating to a house in Sturgis?? I have also been invited to ride up this Saturday, overnight Saturday, Meet A.B.A.T.E friends at the American Legion in Sturgis?? for breakfast Sunday morning and ride back on Sunday. I hope to stay in the new found house this Saturday to look it over before I commit to changing my motel reservations. Maybe I will see some of you? Take care everyone.

    Sturgis 2011

So who's going to Sturgis this year? Myself and my group will be staying at Glencoe again this year in the Motorcycle-Only camping area, right next to where the sportbike rider got killed last year. Departing Amarillo area on or about the 3rd or 4th, arriving on or about the 4th or 5th of August, departing around the 13th. Sure would be fun to break in some newbies! ( I mean show you around...) Anyone interested in a meet-n-eat in the Beautiful Black Hills, post here!
  13. 14. We had a great time in Cody, met old and new friends alike! What a great bunch of folks. Had a few extra days off work so decided to head home to Missouri via South Dakota. Stopped in Custer and will be seeing Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, maybe head up to Spearfish and Sturgis. Leaving here Sunday early am, looking for the biggest ball of mud we can find!
  15. The Little Sturgis Rally in Sturgis, KY has been shut down permanently. The announcement came today and was due to the fact that fair board wanted an EXPONENTIALLY amount of money for renting the grounds for one week. The cost went from $1500 to $17,000. The rally is no more.
  16. I am switching jobs at the time of the International Rally, and the new boss gave me a couple weeks off. We will be at Cody from Sunday till Friday morning then leaving out to go to Custer State Park and spend 4 nights there . Hit Sturgis, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Badlands and whatever else we can do. Feel free to look us up while we are at Cody or Custer, the more the merrier!
  17. A few of us are planning a trip to the Badlands, Rushmore and some Wyoming riding (or anything else around there). But we are wondering about the timing of our trip. We plan on leaving July 22-31 and the Sturgis Rally is going to be from August 8-14. Will we have any difficulty getting rooms from July 24, 25 and 26? Opinions? Also...we had planned to stay in Rapid City, SD and use that as a "staging" place for all of our day trips. But after looking at the map, I am thinking that Custer, SD would be a better staging place...they have motels and it makes the southern part (badlands, Wyoming, rushmore) more accessible since our only trip north will be a quick (very quick) trip through Sturgis. Are there any other OFF THE WALL things to see in the area that most people don't know about? How about any recommendations on Motels in the Custer, SD area?
  18. Beth has decided that this year it's the Black Hills, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearfish and all for our vacation ride. When is the best time to ride these parts? We don't want to be part of the rally in Sturgis, but would like to have been there type thing before the mad rush. So, weather wise......realizing that ol' Mother Nature doesn't always co-operate.....when do you think is the best time to head that way? gunk:think:
  19. Looks like they went to Sturgis in style this year. My friend Chuck has been talkin' about and slowly working on this trailer for a few years. He finally got it done for the their Sturgis trip this year. I love it. Later, Scooter Bob

    Sturgis 2010-a few pics

Made it home after 14 days on the road. 2,477 miles. Here a few pics of the bike/trailer combo. I took several pics on the last Saturday of the event in and around Sturgis, at 0730 local time after a good rain, when the streets and venues were mostly deserted. These are not your usual, crowded street-scene shots. Since this is a family oriented forum, I cant post all of the...uh...fun photos. But trust me on this, the road in Glencoe Campground called 'Pervert Road', has a well-deserved reputation. Adults ONLY. Just use your imagination on this. My rear tire found a nail so I had a new E3 put on the bike while in Sturgis. I think the E3 tire is a magnet for nails. Great tire, but I have yet to wear one out. Overall, we had a great time....and now its only 51 more weeks till Sturgis!
  21. Just went to the Sturgis Cam to take a look at the aftermath of last week. The cam focuses on the downtown area, main st. I guess. The one thing that really stuck out were all of the "oil spots" all down the middle of the road where the "you know what kind of bikes" were all parked.........just sayin:rotf::stickpoke:
  22. check out this web site for a good rally. www.sturgismsrally.com
  23. My first trip to Sturgis was fun. It was also very warm. Mid to upper 90's made downtown Sturgis a blast furnace. I heard that the estimate for Sturgis was 800,000 people because of the 70th anniversary, and I'd believe it. If you rode down main or Lazelle street it would take over an hour to go 5 blocks. On tuesday it was so hot guys were shutting the bikes off and pushing them down the street. I didnt carry a camera with me and trying to take pics riding solo is kinda difficult, but i managed a few pics with my cell phone camera. The last pic is the Missouri river crossing at Gettysburg SD.
  24. OK Who is at Sturgis with their RSV? A few friends are down there and sent back a pic of a trike, but it looks like a nice RSV i beside it. Brian
  25. Well it looks like my first trip to Sturgis is a GO! Since my wife doesnt ride, I figured it is my duty to be an obediant husband and ASK for permission to go. Since I have all my work done she has given me the go ahead. Imagine that, 44 years old, around motorcycles most of my life, and LIVE in South Dakota, and it is my first trip out to Sturgis. Even though I live in SD it will still be a 4 1/2 hr drive. Have the trailer packed and ready, but it looks like monday before i head out. CANT WAIT!!!!
