Shootout at the Ponderosa Corral - Int'l Rally
Sailor replied to Lone Eagle's topic in Watering Hole
Kill two birds with one stone....make venison chilli and help make riding safer. -
Don't know if any of you have seen a show called Mrs Browns Boys. It is Irish and hilarious. In one episode she gets two seventh day adventists in to her parlor and totally destroys them. The one scene I am reminded of now is where she asks them about Normans Ark (They insist it is Noah's but she doesn't agree) It rained 40 days and 40 nights it was a miracle, she replied that in Ireland that was not a miracle, it was just summer.

I want to get a shorter tinted windshield but not sure about size. Is the windshield measured from the base of the screen itself or from the top of the chrome strip it sticks out of? Mine measures 17" from the strip.

Just heard on the radio today that we have had only one day of normal temperature all month. The rest of the month has been colder ( and wetter)than normal.

Control Freak describes my wife, but she is cured now, at least on the bike. She used to sit there and hit me on the helmet and yell at me to look out for the dog/car etc. I waited until we had a clear road and when she hit me again I swerved and yelled " What?". She never hit me or yelled again. We made a run from Abbotsford to the ferry which was a bit fast as we were late and when we got to the terminal she said she was exhausted. I said she shouldn't be, all she had to do was sit there and she was sheltered behind me. She replied "No, I drove every inch of the way". lol.

Saw a clip with a burgundy venture running Vance and Hines Monster Oval Baggers. Sounded real nice to me, in fact I think I will order them along with a shorter, tinted windshield I saw on Slip Stream. They have everything from 6" to 17' clear or tinted. Haven't decided what height to go, perhaps someone here has suggestions? ( dumb question, of course they do!).

Had a few close ones. The ones I really hate are the people that sit at a stop sign and watch you approach then at the last moment pull out across the road and stop. They sit there and grin at you while you make a panic stop. One of the most absurd was when I was coming through town (Ganges) at slow speed. A woman pulled out of a side road on my right and actually hit my bike as she slowly passed. I swerved to the centerline and still was able to plant a couple good kicks in her drivers door. I stopped at a store up the road and she pulled in as well. I stupidly thought she might want to apologize. I said "That was a pretty close call there". She said "What?". I told her what had happened and she said " Well what were you doing there?". I shook my head and walked away.

Let us know how those cherry bombs work out. I was curious as they are available at Canadian tire for $25.00 each, chromed. I asked if anyone had tried them some time ago but got no response. -
Has anyone tried L.A. Chopper oval slip ons? I see they make them for the Venture and they look nice but I haven't seen any comments about them. Wonder what they sound like. They claim a deep rumble which is what I want.

If you get to VI let me know, we could meet up. If you get to Port Alberni the Swale Rock Cafe has great seafood. It is about two blocks up from where the Lady Rose is docked.

Is this a chain hotel/motel? If so you can go over his head and complain to the head office. I find that works very well, and usually get you either a refund or future discounts. If it is not a chain he still has a boss. Find out who the boss/owner is and complain to him.

Way to go! I always leave room for an escape at a light. If I am behind a car I stop to one side or the other, never in the middle, and watch the mirrors. They should ban all distractions from cars other than the old radios.

Janets brother has a place up there so we will probably get up there sometime. It will be interesting to see the changes. I have had many an English sports car. I am intimately acquainted with " The Prince of Darkness".

Them youngsters don't realize that us oldsters got this way by being smart enough to learn how to survive.

A Harley can go that fast??? Are they sure it was really a Harley?

It is guys like this that make us all look bad. I believe there should be a graduated licensing system tied to the performance of the bike.

Anything they can find, pipes, lights, license etc. Went to Duncan on the way to Ride for Dad. RCMP car immediately pulled in right behind me. I figured "here we go" when some idiot in an suv passed us at about 100kph, it was a 60 zone. The cop forgot about me and took off after him. lol.

If anyone is planning on riding Vancouver Island be aware that the Naniamo police have announced they are going to stop and check every motorcyclist they see during the next year. This is supposedly to stop motorcycle accidents and deaths. They say it is the same as enforcing no cellphone regulations. To me it is more like mugging tourists so they don't get mugged by crooks. I sent a letter to the Nanaimo Daily News and another one to the Victoria Times Colonist advising them to read the Hurt report and asking how harassing motorcyclists is going to stop some idiot on a cell phone from hitting them. The letter to the Times Colonist was printed yesterday but I don't know about the Nanaimo News as we don't get it here.

After Rome comes Cornwall. There is nothing like heading down a road 11/2 lanes wide with stone walls on both sides and three cars trying to pass you then rounding a blind corner and seeing a stone arch way a few feet ahead with a sign reading "Not suitable for cars more than 6' 6" wide" Quick! how wide is a rental Volvo? I think it is 6' 5".

Rick...everyone in England drives like that, when you get out to Cornwall they really get insane. Roundabouts get rid of lights and keep the traffic flowing. All you need to remember is that the traffic in the roundabout has right of way over those entering. It is also good to signal your intentions such as leaving at the next exit.
