  1. I was just looking at the Ride for Dad site and I see they are having a cross Canada tour Starting Aug 1st. There are several stages and you can ride all of it ( St Johns NFLND to Victoria B.C.) or just part of it. For more info Google Ride for Dad and click on tenth anniversary ride.
  2. On the car deck of the ferry as we were approaching the dock I saw a guy standing there with the drivers door open frantically going through his pockets. He then began searching through the car. I walked over and took the car keys out of the drivers door lock and handed them to him.
  3. Just got back from the Ride for Dad in Victoria. Saw a few Ventures there. Had about 1000 bikes. Impressive parade. The cops had all the streets blocked off so we could keep together. They estimate $100,000.00 raised for prostate cancer research. Going on the Ride for Life next month. I think I was a little insulted on the way there and on the way back. I went over the Malahat from Crofton. It climbs from sea level to 1200 feet fairly quickly. I got challenged by a guy in a Prius! Realy! Not a chance fella. Then on the way back I got challenged by a guy on a harley. I think he was discouraged when I pulled up beside him when he was at full speed and shifted gears.
  4. Janet and I really enjoyed our time there. We stayed in a B+B near the cathedral in town. Unfortunately they rang the bells every hour, every half hour and every 15 minutes. They also rang them according to calculations connected to the Mayan calendar. After a while we did not notice it. Loved the bronze statues of space aliens on the oceanfront walk. We really enjoy visiting Mexico.
  5. customs officers are the same as anyone else. I have traveled all over the world since I was very young. Two rules...never go to a short customs agent, never go to a female customs agent, regardless of country. some people just let a bit of power go to their heads. Sorry short people and sorry ladies but from years of experience it is a simple observation.
  6. I have a mini bag which holds about 4 clubs and a putter. I just sling it over my shoulder. I figure I am just out to have fun so why bother with all the rest of the stuff. P.S. It also holds 4 beer
  7. Hey, I got silicone implants! Funny, when I tell a guy that he immediately looks at my chest, when I tell a girl that she looks at my crotch. Neither one figures I am talking about my eyes. Got cataracts and astigmatism problems. Would have been blind in a year. They mapped out my eyes, what a light show, like being on LSD. Did my left eye, cut out the lens and replaced it with the silicone one in about 20 minutes. Totally painless. A month later they did my right eye. Took about 1/2 hour which is long. It had the worst astigmatism so was more difficult to line up. I encourage anyone with eye problems to check out what they can do. It is amazing.

    choke

Same problem here. Darn linkage seems to be made of spaghetti.
  9. Used the v rated super venoms on my Madura. They were rated for the bike which was 150 mph. I would burn through the rear tire in one season but I rode it hard and it performed well. I now use the venom h on the venture. good performance but longer lasting. Into my third season with it and I think. another three to go at least.
  10. At last years Ride for Dad I got a picture of a V Max reflected in the chrome casing on my bike. I have the same picture with my 51 Merc lead sled.
  11. I have no problem with the intersection cameras so long as they do not shorten the time on the yellow. Intersection cameras also reduced fraud. A friend of mine was a bus driver. He witnessed a mild fender bender at an intersection. Two East Indian gentlemen ran into each other at low speed. The police called my friend to testify in court. He was furious. Seven East Indians showed up all claiming to have been in the cars and all claiming whiplash. This was a common type of fraud against the insurance company. Intersection cams put an end to that type of thing. I had a real problem with the radar cams as the police merely used it as a cash cow. The cameras were set up at the bottom of long hills, even if you coasted you were likely slightly over the limit by the time you got to the bottom. They were also set up on long straight stretches of multi lane roads where there were no problems and speeds usually crept up a little. They never set it up in problem areas.
  12. Don't got no red lights here on Saltspring, no green ones either. We just have to watch out for people running the stop signs. There is one intersection I always slow down at, even though I am on the main road. It is a main intersection with clear visibility and well posted, even the stop signs are over sized, yet it is the worst spot for accidents on the island.
  13. OK, you guys asked for it! Little froggie was down at the pond with his friends. They were hopping from Lilly pad to Lilly pad and zapping flies and having a great time. Suddenly he realized it was late and he had better get home. When he got there he was met by mama frog. She was not happy. "Do you know how late it is?" "Do you have any idea how worried I have been?" etc, etc. Little froggie looked at her and said....... "Well gee mom, you know how times fun when your'e having flies."
  14. OK,baffles I understand. "Frost Plugs" had me baffled.
  15. Where are these "frost plugs" located? I looked on the diagram and could not see any listed.
  16. Wife has back up sensors in the back bumper of her van. The closer you get the faster they beep. I imagine something like that could be modified. Would be tempting to hook it into a speaker with a recording saying " BACK OFF *&^%$).
  17. Yep, I was going to ask if they would be here then. See you there.
  18. I would stay south until you hit the coast then come up the coast road to Port Angeles then the ferry to Victoria. You do not want to go through mountain passes at that time of year. You do not want to be in the I 5 from Seattle north at any time. How long will you be in Victoria? Will you be heading north on Vancouver Island? I could meet you somewhere if you want.
  19. " Old timer" "old coot" Come on up to Nelson Aug first and try to keep up!!!!!!!!
  20. Been to La Connor, Nice place.
  21. I am not a morning person and can not stand the vibrating noisy electric shaver, although those with the rotary heads are much better. I have been using the fusion 3 but it is getting worse. I find gel works better than foam. Years ago they had a commercial on TV advertising how many shaves you could get out of a blade. A friend knew someone who worked for the company. He asked how they could make money if the blades keep getting better. His friend said that they used special blades for the advertising and the ones they sell would not get nearly as many shaves. He also said that the first and last blades in a pack of five were the sharpest and the middle one was the dullest because they figured people only remembered the first and last.
  22. In the same paper I see that the public is keeping up comments about Solicitor General Heed's idiotic remarks concerning motorcycles and safety. Good! I have been in Edmonton for a few days so I am sure I missed some.
  23. In todays Victoria paper, a heroin addict with a record who was pissed off at his girlfriend ran a red light and killed a motorcyclist in Aug 2008. In Nov 2009 he was sentenced to 4 years for manslaughter and 1 year for leaving the scene. He will get 2 years off because he has already spent 1 year in custody. He will get more time off for good behavior and probably parole and early release. In other words, a slap on the wrist. It is not the worst sentencing I have seen but it comes close.

    Ugly

This is going to be ugly. I was sitting out on the deck today with my shirt off (it's already ugly), sipping a Jamesons, puffing a Cohiba and reading a book. Out on the lake others had their shirts off (no ladies unfortunately). Tomorrow we leave for Edmonton for the weekend. Forecast... -8 with snow flurries. I am packing bottles of brandy for emergencies.
  25. Believe the run starts at 0900 so I catch either the 0615 at Fulford or the 0700 at Vesuvius. Will probably go Vesuvius as it is later and a nicer run.
