  1. As some of you already know, and if you don't, you will now know, I did second gear on my 85. Well, in order to do that job I found out that you need to pull the whole motor out of the bike and then turn it upside down. I figured that it would be a smart thing to first drain out the oil, so out comes the drain plug and off comes the filter. Now the drain plug is an easy one to loose so I was really smart and put it back ASAP. The filter housing on the other hand is a messy business so after taking it off, I neatly put it upside down in the garbage can to drain out, to be retrieved and cleaned at a later date. Well that date was today, and nowhere can I find that housing or the filter itself. I have a new filter but it's somewhat useless without the cover, so now where did the old one end up??????? The best guess I've got at this point, is that seeing as I like things to be as clean as possible and that the garbage was gettiing full, I neatly put a garbage bag over the can, turned it upside down, tied it up and sent it off to never never land where they are building a big heap of other leftovers. Yep my filter cover is gone, gone, gone. Now I need another, but where to find such a thing, I thinking maybe there be someone around who would quietly send me one so that the whole world won't find out how smart I can sometimes be.
  2. Just helps if you remove the lower faring. Other than that, no sweat.
  3. If it has sat for a while, I would put some Rislone in the oil and then run it some, let it sit and then run it some more. Rislone loosens up carbon and other sludge and so cleans things up real good, shouldn't hurt the clutch but will thin the oil so you can't run it steady. It works great if you need to clean the insides. You can use Seafoam as well.
  4. I plan on being around for the next time Easter comes this early, and so far so good.
  5. Not near long enough for you to get your scoot over there, I bet.
  6. So what happens if you turn it on and then cover the mic(s) with you hand, completely inclosed? There should be no noise at all, if there is then something is generating that noise, and that needs to be eliminated. Other than that you are trying to fix an issue that shouldn't be there in the first place.
  7. There are two ways to measure, one is length, the other is depth. Maybe Don measured the wrong way??????????????? You never know, he is originally from the south somewhere and now has to deal with stuff he wasn't brought up with. Now about packing it down????? Works great. I used to do it all the time, you just got to make sure that the whole drive gets packed, not just the tracks. When it thawes, it all seems to run away, just like as if it had never been there.
  8. Have you got your CB turned on? If so, is the squelch turned down? I'm just reading a little between the lines here, but it seems that would be a likely area for the noise to come from, if nothing is running or making noise. The noise from the CB does not come from your mics, but from the CB receiver, so the squelch needs to be turned down. Just a thought.
  9. It keeps coming to me that I should think about retirement, problem with that is the thinking part, how do you do that?
  10. Somebody posted a while back that there wasn't enough room on a venture for TWO people???????? That trailer wouldn't work for us, the kids have all left home so now there's just the two of us,,,,,,??????? 'course maybe could ask the neigbours wife if she wants to go along.
  11. Scooter was just getting tired of waiting for you. Glad all is ok, next time go when there is nobody else there.
  12. Try puttting your head down between the handle bars, saves on headsets:think::think:
  13. Well good for you olde buddy, glad to see that you're not staying with the past but are determined to move on, hey, the past will always be with you, and that can be good and bad, but the future is what you make of it. Looking forward to joining you on a ride already, don't know about this white stuff though, can't see a 'hole lot right now.
  14. My wife and I went out last year to find new lids. Went to four local dealers and tried on HJCs, mediums. Must of had about 15 different ones on my head at one point, until I finally found one that fit, and then so did she. All told we probably tried on 10 - 15 different HJC mediums, all the same model and only one fit right. What I'm saying is, just because the first one don't fit right, try another and then another. And I wouldn't buy one on line for that reason, unless you have a good ballpeen.
  15. So to keep it short????? Who says he has to ride a motorcycle? Will the next thing be that he wants to work steel without a hardhat?
  16. Now, if memory serves me correctly, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a certain second gen hold up the ride for a first gen one day because of some mecahanical problem??????? At least the first genner got to eat a good supper, although it was chatterbox all the way home.
  17. And I'm the head at our place, Are now, was yesterday, and always was before, Marca ?????????? she's the neck.
  18. Seems to have worked, now the question is???????does it fly???????
  19. I know Bob's problem, and the one for the Impala might suit him better. When you have more to stop, don't you need a bigger cylinder? or it may be cheaper to get a smaller cylinder on the seat???????
  20. When you have a leakage between any gasket, but especially the head gasket (due to high pressure from the cylinders) you will have deposits in between the mating surfaces. Torquing may make it better for a little while but will not really solve the problem now created. You need to not only replace the gasket but also check the head for plane to make sure it hasn't warped, even just a little.
  21. And here I always thought that castor refered to oil and chamber was where you did the oil change. Now I'm all confused and have to go look at my scoot before I put it back together, to make sure I got everything lined up right for the castor to get into the chamber right at the back wheel. And now how exactly do you swing your arm in this process? Up and down, forward and backward or just round in a circle. And when you're all done do you really need to bolt, I'm getting a little old you see, or would a fast walk be sufficient.
  22. Sorry to hear about your loss, but hopefully he has gained much. We must always be ready for the GREAT Meet & Greet.
  23. Loosen the 4 bolts that hold the fender on at the forks, adjust the fender where it needs to be, and then while holding it, tighten the bolts. Also check the bolts that hold the fender extention on, don't just look at them but actually tighten them, fender extentions and car tires don't mix well.
  24. Now what really would pass the test, is if you knew if it runs forwards or backwards, and if it's the same on a first gen as the second gen, or do they run in opposite directions??????? Carl, I'm not sure, as I haven't had the cover off while motors runnin', but I'm sure it's AROUND IN A CIRCLE!!!!:rotf: Sorry Carl, just couldn't help it!! It's raining cats and dogs, tired of this weather, can't finish cleaning motor while it's raining outside (re: Dragonslayers reply to my question in his post on "Getting motor ready for show" I think). GO ahead and get me for this, I deserve it! Seriously, when I take covers off to do my waterpump rebuild whilst I have the rest of the dang thing torn apart, I will do my best to answer this age old question. INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW! Best of luck, Dan
  25. By the last look on his face as he looked back, I'd say he was not done yet for the day, he was going again, so I watched it again, and so what if you posted it again, maybe we'll watch it some more. Thanks
