Agreed!!! if you want, just move 2 plugs around and see if the miss follows the plug. If it does, you've found the culprit. If it stays in the same cylinder, it the carb. Had 2 carbs die on me last year, cleaned them with CTC carb cleaner and air, and now all is well. If you find it's the carbs, let me know and I'll tell you how I cleaned them.

Electrical Gremlin
Marcarl replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ok so here's how it's wired. I didn't include the colors of the wires. Except for the switch wires, witch are the original horn wires, it's all 14 ga with crimmped terminals. -

All is well that ends well and so far it's welllllllllll,,,,,,,, when will this Happen again,,or will it. Sorry, no good at that drawing of pictures thing, but I'll lay it out so you can draw your own picture. This thing has had me wondering for 3 days now, and it has not frustrated me yet, but I can't seem to come up with a logical answer and I thought there might be some else that would join me in the pool. There is only 1 (one) horn, the Bad Boy, bought in another other country, it has positive and negative posts. There is 1 (one) horn button, the original, with the original wires attached and they go to the primary side of the just newly installed relay that came with the horn. All connections are of the insulated type. The horn is connected to the secondary side of the relay, the live wire #14 coming straight from the accessory terminal to the relay with no detours. The other side of the horn goes to ground on the frame. All was OK until I push the starter button, then the fun began. Not with the ignition,,, no it was the starter button. -
Got a funny one. Installed a brand new set of horns, Bad Boys to exact, put them in the faring, right side, right behind the grill and tied them in with cable ties, So far so Good. Wired them according to specks. Used the original horn wire for the primary side of the relay, ran a new line from the accessory post to the secondary side of the relay, then to the horn and then to ground. I did that right EH? Well so I thought as well. Tested it and boy does that give off some sound, real nice, all done, on to the next project. In the process I needed to fire up the engine. Turned on the ignition, pushed the kill switch to run, pulled in the clutch lever and pushed the start button, and low and behold there wasn't a soul in front of the scoot anymore (not that there were any to start with), the sound coming from the horns was totally unexpected and a way too loud for a confinded space, but the scoot was running, so glory be. had to shut all that racket off so I turned the ignition off and all was quiet, good so far, at least that worked, but now to try that again, let's see,,,carefully turn on the ignition, yep ok there,,,hit the start button and WWoww, them there horns done wake a person right up from down under,,,,turn the ignition off again and am now perplexed,,,,well ,,,,,took out the fuse and through the test all was quiet,, what a blessing, I was having thoughts of needing a new radio just to be able to hear my tunes over all the constant noise,,,and somebody said to put two off those thingies on my machine???????are they nuts,,,,,,,not on mine if they're going to be going off constantly. Went to the laundry to wash off last years leftovers and when I got back I thought I had enough guts to try that fuse once more. Sure enough, put the fuse in, carefully turned on the ignition,,,you never know eH,,,,,,,and then hit the start button,,,,now it got me totally confused,,,,everything worked perfect,,,,,now how am I going to find out what went haywire. Three days later,,, it's still good,,,,,,,but if you hear someone coming down the street with his horn going full blast,,, get the coffee ready,, it'll be me and I'll be looking for some help

Noty a real good idea if you have electronics that you listen to, as the RF from the high tension wires will bleed to the frame and then back into the headsets. -
Try putting the kick stand up, flick the kill switch a few times, put the tci in the oven to dry it out.

Tell us more about the jacket, how large is large, does it have armour, how long are the sleeves, how wide are the shoulders and how long is it and how much room in the mid section.

From what I understand, there is a rotation direction marked on the tire, it may have to do with tread patterns but more important it has to do with how the belts in the tire a laid together, so if you put them on backwards you run the risk of having them come apart at the seam. This info is from the Avon sales rep, I don't build tires so I can only go by what he said. For me, the tire goes on one way only, I've got enough problems to worry about without adding any extra load.

Losing air from forks
Marcarl replied to bmannon's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You need to remove the trunk and the rack, under that is the plastic cover for the CLASS system. Check the hose connections for leaks, sometime they loosen and you won't notice until you get to it. While you are there, it's a good time to dry out your air dryer. It's a canister laying beside the class system, take it out and carefully remove all the contents onto a plate, watch it, because it's all small gravel like stuff that is light and rolls out of sight in no time flat, it's called selica gel. Put in the micro wave for about 2 minutes or until the color is a nice deep blue. It is now regenerated and good for a few more years.- 4 replies

Bad Boy horn upgrade..
Marcarl replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Put mine in the right front faring. Couldn't be bothered to fix a bracket for it, just drilled two holes in the airvane piece and then used cable ties to hold it in place. Wired the relay into the circuit using the original wires for the primary feed, and running a new 14ga wire to the accessory post for the secondary circuit and then to ground. Worked great for about 3 blasts, and then it quit. Took everything out once more and found no problems, everything seemed to work, but no noise at all. Then I checked where the accessory post got it's feed from and discovered that it was fed with a 10 amp fuse, replaced the fuse with the recommended 20 amp, and now I'm working on my seat. I also got a piece of foam to cover the hole going to the lower faring, to cut down on air flow into the upper faring area and so reduce moisture intake as well as bug intake. -
We were all of a mind to tell you all that, but we didn't want to scare you off from doing it. Now that you have it done, thanks for telling us, and we're happy you found it so much enjoyable and had a great time yesterday. Too bad your body feels the way it does, but that just gets you more in the mind to go for a ride. I maybe will visit Ottawa again this year, daughter lives in Napean, and brother lives in Chesterville, so they may have to put up with us for a weekend.

Where to buy a "trailer isolation relay" in Canada
Marcarl replied to Midnight's topic in Trailer Talk
Check out CTC, they have lots of that type of stuff and something may work for you. For myself, I wouldn't bother, just wire it direct as usual, there's not that much more draw, only when you brake. -
Cool stuff. Now you can take this a little further, put in a hydraulic pump, some lines and a hydraulic motor and you got yourself a two wheel drive.

For me,,,,,,,,I just did the measuring, took the now non-needed shims to the dealer, told him which ones I needed, and gave him the the ones I didn't. Cost me a whole bag of Pepperettes.

Radio loudness!!!!!
Marcarl replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you have a CB, having the squelch turned too low will also give a muting problem. Glad you found the issue and brought it up at the start of the season, this way maybe, just maybe, I won't have to learn that one again this year, that would be 3 years in a row, and maybe more than once a season.- 7 replies

The theory behind the sync, is to get the vacuum all the same for each carb at idle, that way you know that all butterflies are in close position to each other,,, you'll never be dead on at all times, but close enough to spit at. When you open the butterflies (throttle) the opening becomes larger, much larger, and the slight difference from one to the other will have very little effect on the overall performance. Hence the sync is set at idle where the difference is most noticeable. Hope this makes sense so far. If your carbs are synced at idle and you have a vibration at 3- 4000 rpm. my suggestion is that you have other issues, such as diaphragms, dirty or partly dirty carb, plug issues, wire problems, or at worst ring problems.
