  1. Why did you use resistor plugs? Exchange the resistor plugs for the standard plugs. You have resistor end caps on the ignition wires, that should be all you need. Last week I worked on a Honda CB 500, it wouldn't start and it had no spark. Stumped even the local mech. Took out the coils, tested them and had them tested. Checked everything, even exchanged the plugs with other ones that the owner had brought, no spark no where anywhere, but the coils tested fine. Put in a new set of resistor plugs, no good, put in standard plugs, and she rides. Runs like brand new now. So my advice is get yourself some standard plugs to start with.
  2. Something don't make a whole lot of sense here. You state that you're going through a lot of fuel, that would indicate a float problem possibly, but yet you say the plugs are good,,, are they black or grey? Are you using resistor plugs? Is the air filter clean? It starts fine, but how does it run if you go easy, at what rpm's does it cut out? What happens if you run the rpm's up sitting still, say up to 4000? Does it do this in all gears? Does it run hot? Just some questions.
  3. I'd go for the first one, it includes a motorcylce, pond, wife, helmet, cage, jumps, flower bed, HD, speed, needed bike repair, checking things over before you ride,,,,,,,,, just about everything that has an interest on this site. Now if you tell it,,,,,keep in mind that this is a PG rated site, and you cannot necessarily tell all. If you don't tell, I might have to go back in the far reaches of my mind and discover what I can remember, but I make no wild promises to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
  4. My first thought is: you have a fuel problem. If it were ignition you would ahve starting issues, but you seem to be running short of fuel, or at least fuel in the right mixture or the right place at the right time. Replace the fuel filter, bleed out the lines, bleed out your fuel bowls, and then add 1 can of seafoam to a half tank of gas. You may also have diaphram problems, but I would do the easy stuff first.
  5. I sure will,,,but you tell it sooo good,, I would like to read it again. Did I say enough yet??????
  6. You been feeding it tooooo much again,,, got to put it on a diet,,, no more icecream!!!!!
  7. My 85 does the jump start all the time, I figure it's just eager and ready to go, and it has the same noises as you discribe, but that I don't here anymore onceit I get 'er on the road.
  8. Is that one of them phones that hang on the wall and you have to push a button and then turn the crank to call the neigbours?????? or if you wanted to call someone a little further away you had to let the community blab in on the news first???? I remember them phones!!!!!!
  9. I'm not at all, repeat, not at all, trying to be-little your situation or others like yourself. It's got to be tough,, and not very pleasant. Now you start to think and worry about where are you going to find things to eat, where to sleep, can you buy new clothes etc etc. Your not even worried about whether you'll be able to keep your scoot, or extra car etc, now the important things are first,,,, yep, been there, and done that. But as I started out with saying, I'll not be-little your situation,, but,,,,when I think about our times, my memory goes back to my Dad and Mom and so many others who have done the same,,,,,, it's not a vacation trip, but it will be done. Back in 30's Dad bought a piece of land and started a duck farm to sell duck eggs. The war started and he ended up selling his first flock of ducks for less than half of what he paid for them, then lived through the war, and then decided in 1950 to move with Mom and 5 kids to Canada of all places. No work promised, just a land of 'opportunity' It was rough for them, new language and all, but I sure appreciate them doing it, I sure like it here,,,, Hollands ok I guess, never been back, I'll stay here,,, for now. There is a future for all of us, and we will live,,, it's just down right rotten, tough, to have to go through this mess. I sure feel for all you folks and wish you the best. As Squid said, God has a plan, and if you ask Him he will lead you and stay beside you. His Son told us to look at the lilies of the field, they neither reap or sow but look how beautiful they are, and if the Father looks after them so well, how much more will He look after you. Carl
  10. Hey,,, now you can put snow tires on that scoot and see if they actually work.
  11. Don't know if there is a thread for that, I don't remember seeing one or reading about it. But to address your problem, you need to run a ground cable from the grounding spot at the end of the battery ground cable, which is attached to the engine at the right front corner, just above the water pump, then attach it somewhere onto the frame. Just above that spot is a bolt that holds the engine onto the frame, so you can undo that one and fasten it there. That was easy. To run new battery cables, you get the new ones first and then you can pull the new ones in place by attaching them to the old ones as you pull the old out,,, more or less. That's a little harder. Hope this helps. carl
  12. Sounds to me that it's time to grease the steering head bearings. Could be that you washed the little bit of grease that they put in there, down the drain. And the rest of the comments I agree with. Carl
  13. Just so that you're all updated, there was an 'injury' and I had an excuse to massage the back of Marca's leg to get some knots out of it,, just the calf and only up to the knee. And oh,,,, I joined the club a long time ago,,,, fact is I must have been kicked out a time or two, because I have to keep rejoining it at times,,,,, guess it's just to stay current. As has been mentioned before, it's not if you lay it down,,, it's when. So it's one of things that happen and you practice to get right. This time with a pulled muscle, we could have done better,,,,, but my knee didn't suffer. Thanks for all the good wishes, Carl PS: sorry this story isn't any longer,,, I do like to give you all your money's worth you know.
  14. I blame this all on my oldest daughter,,,,,, well she's the one who married that big fella who decided earlier this year to change jobs and living accommodations, and then they picked a spot that is not biker friendly. In fact their street, if you want to call it that is located in a little hamlet called Limehouse (the first giveaway) is made mainly of dirt and hills with some gravel thrown in to make it look real. When you leave the pavement of the real road, the path, indicated by the grass on the sides, goes directly down and then heads back up for the clouds immediately after. About halfway up they have positioned an abode that they call their own with a driveway that is on the downward grade, much opposite to the inclining angle of the pathway, called Elizabeth Street. Being that there is more road above their driveway and we have had our share of downloading of moisture this year, there is now a bit of a ditch on the edge of the path that needs to be crossed before you can negotiate the hump that leads to the decline in their what they call their driveway. It really is a nice place, beautiful setting and they are great poeple,, after all they are family. Anyways, Marca and I went visiting yesterday and decided to take the scoot. All went well, we got there, shook hands, gave hugs, talked, ate, and had a good time. Then the fun started. We got ready to go home and my scooter was parked in the way of someone else, sooooo I fired it up and seeing as it was not in a good position for Marca to mount took it down the path to the main road so to turn around and bring things into a better perspective so that mounting would not be an all night affair. At the road the path comes to an adrupt vertical end at the pavement, but the road takes a corner just then and lays pretty much in the opposite direction, so there is another hump. To stop at that point would pretty much have a rear bound Venture with a forward looking rider, for that is the exact spot that the roadmakers decided that it needed to be graveled,, so I found that of to my right, was a paved parking spot, but that was on a downward slope as well and then also in the opposite direction. Anyways, I made it there, got turned around and headed back down the path to pick up my sweetie. We got dressed, got the scoot in a decent position for loading up and headed out. We have done this before and managed to negotiate the end of the pathway rather well,,,,, well that's because there was not traffic coming.... but this time there was,,, and we had to make a stop,,,,, well I headed for the paved parking spot, but, that being at a double angle and not very smooth with some gravel thrown in for good measure, became the spot of our unloading. We stopped, we teettered, but I keep the brakes on, so we didn't roll,,,, slowly, ever so slowly we got into another angled position, not forwards or backwards this time, but sidewards,,, not a good omen,,,, and my sweetie was not impressed when I told her: we're going over, hang on. No damage, only a slightly pulled muscle on the back of the leg behind the knee and that should fix itself probably with some nice massage from someone willing to spend the time. To keep a long story short. We\I laid the bike down last night.
  15. Because it tooooooo cool to ride all day with no sleeves, and an open shirt so others can be impressed with the macho. Best put though,,, is,,, image. And all the other reasons so far. That's why they don't wave either,,,,,,, we're not on the same level. All that said, I still wave, and I still go to talk to them at the coffee stop. Their demeanor shouldn't change mine,,,,,, aaaaaaand I like to stir the pot. AAAAAAnd if I see one on a trailer at a stop,,, I go ask them some questions,,,,,,,,,,,
  16. Couple of things here. When I did my clutch there was a washer that I thought should go where I thought it should be, but eneded up going where Yamaha had designed it to go,,, and if I remember correctly it ended up going on before the basket. Yep I could shift all right, not very good, but it would shift, but it would not stop. Also, the clutch bolts are not very tight, use only 8 INCH pounds, not foot pounds, on these,, hardley seems to be tight, but it works.
  17. Just for interest, you should not split the caliper in half. The pistons can be removed without splitting them. Use air to do this. Putting anything in between the halves when you reassemble them would possibly give a chance for some of what ever you put in there to end up in the system,,, something you really don't want. If I knew that someone had done this to my bike, I would tear it all apart, thoroughly clean it and then put it back together without any goop at all. Brake fluid isn't compatible with much of anything.
  18. Good to hear you made it safely, could have been a lot different. Use a Dremel tool to cut the race, takes a little while but it's quicker and easier. Bearings can be bought a lot quicker and cheaper at a local bearing store.
  19. Are the little rubber o-rings in place under the tit on the cover of the diaphrams?
  20. The connector cable (DIN) from the CB to the amp, was also my next suggestion. Take the CB out and make sure that that the cable is seated properly. While you're that far, just check the continuity on that cable including the shield, to make sure you don't have a broken wire in it, not likely,, but you never know.
  21. Sorry to hear this, but glad you could share you sorrow. Our sympathies for all of you and may you be able to find the peace that only The Father can give.
  22. Well, need I ask??????? Mute button,,, don't ask me why I say this. Check your attenna lead. Make sure it's put together right at the bracket. The center wire, attenna, should not touch ground, but the ground should be good. You won't get any sound from the CB unless someone is talking to you on the same channel or you turn the squelch right down. Check your headphone button. Carl
  23. Now that's the plan for the shop that's behind the house,,,, think it will work????
  24. To get the race off I used a Dremel tool to cut the race,,, maybe a bit of a danger of slightly cutting through the race, but no danger of melting the aluminum or over heating anything else. It also saved a lot of time by the look of things. The final bit of cutting was done with a cold chisel and a freindly!!! pursuader.
