I was with Kingsway, they jacked my rates so I went for quote to Dalton Timmes in Ancaster, saved me about $300.00. They didn't tell me who they used, but I took it, That was last year. Guess what, when the slip came in the mail, it was Kingsway. This year my broker for my car, van and house offered me a better deal, seems Economical decided to start writing MC, so now I paid about $450.00.

Help figure out this rear brake mess on '87 VR.
Marcarl replied to jonsmyth's topic in Watering Hole
Now if you put all this info together, you'll come to realize that it doesn't matter on the cut of the swing arm, because it would have very little to do with the position of the brake caliper bracket. You see, the axle goes through the swing arm then through the washer then through the bracket and then into the wheel. The expanded end of the axle will not go through the washer, nor should it go through the bracket. If you put the washer before the bracket then the washer holds the bracket in place and then the axle can be tightened. The right side of the swing arm should not be tightened to the wheel assembly in this process. You will need to snug the pinch bolt to keep the axle from turning so that you can get proper torque, but in the end you loosen the pinch bolt, tap the swing arm and then retighten the pinch bolt, so that the swing arm will position itself without stress to the arm itself. Now the wheel is held on by the axle, the thick end of the axle pushes against the washer on the one side and the nut and washer hold things at the other side. Virtually then, the wheel is held tight to the left side of the swing arm only, with the right side only keeping the wheel in line. So it really doesn't matter what the cut is on the right side of the swing arm, seeing as it has 'nothing to do with holding the wheel tight to the bike'. Hope this helps, rather than create more confusion. Carl -

By the look of your picture your swing arm is screwed. I think maybe somebody before had put the washer in the wrong postion and then to try to line up the caliper they filed off the swing arm. Just my thoughts. See pictures of a perfect Venture,,, an 85 of course:stirthepot: -

Can you post a picture of where the axle goes through the bracket? There needs to be a spacer in there. From the right side the axle first goes through the swing arm, then the spacer, then the bracket and then into the wheel. -
We plan to start from Mono Mills at 9 am. Then travel up Airport Road to Hockely Valley Road, take it to #10, north to some river road, back to Airport Road, west on CR21 to #24, north to Pretty River Valley, Thornbury and then make our way back down Beaver Valley Road to the Pioneer BBQ in Kitchener

Sometimes it's just how someone says it. It all means the same, but to get it through ones head is often the kink. If I were to tell you, it would sound like this. Grab the passenger hand rail with your right and the handle bar with your left. Put your right foot on the 'horn' or 'handle' of the center stand, rock the scoot so that both feet of the stand touch the ground. NOW you push the stand under the bike with the instep of your foot. The less you worry about lifting and pulling, the easier it will pop up. Now that was easy!!!!!

Just to let you all know, TODAY, 25 YEARS AGO, WAYNE & ROBIN TIED THE KNOT. :happy65: They plan to celebrate by going on a ride,,,, they've had quite a ride so far and it seems they've enjoyed it very much, but tonite it's a MC ride. Join us if you like. I suppose it'll be up to me again to decide where to ride to, but we are riding from Marcarl's I guess. After all it is Tuesday and my knee has had enough relaxation, and Scamper is biting at the bit. So CONGRATULATIONS you two, now for the next 25.

Often times you can borrow a tool from your local bike shop\dealer, and can exchange the shimes as well. Depends on the shop, but some are willing.- 22 replies

Yep, let somebody else do the work for you. It's only going to be a bigger fight with more underhanding if you try to do this yourself. Life is more important than money, although I'm not discounting the importance of the funds, but you have some living to do, and that's not going to happen if you are constantly fighting with your x, but it will be hard to grow your present relationship with a battle going on.

Planning an all day ride from Mono Mills to Kitchener. We'll start at 9 am in Mono Mills, visit Thornbury at the far North and end at the Pioneer BBQ for dinner. I haven't got all the kinks out of the plan yet, but that is the basic idea. The country is picturesque, and the roads are great. If the suns shines we'll ride, if it rains, maybe we'll just join Swifty at the Pioneer for dinner. I'll post this on the calendar as well, so that we can get a count on numbers. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=146&day=2009-9-7&c=1

Can't say I'd try to fix a crack like that with duct tape.

The other thing to cause this to happen would be that you have the MC too full and when the fluid expands from the heat of the engine it will actually prevent the full release of the clutch, but that only happens when the engine is hot. If you still have air in the system and it is stuck down below, this may happen sooner, but I think you have found the solution. -
I remember hearing stories from not that long ago, that if you looked the wrong way at some one in the bar, you were asked to step outside and see to your iron. If not an iron then often a fist was coming your way. More folks got shot than we'll ever know. Maybe things are getting better after all,,, but then, maybe history is starting to repeat itself again.

Oh darn, guess you didn't get the email,,,,now it's too late,,,,, have to plan how to deal with you now,,,,, maybe there's a corner somewhere,,,,kind of not noticeable Ok guess that won't work,,, Looking forward to seeing you again Charlie. There, is that better???

We got some clouds about 6:15 pm, then the lights went out, and it was dark. Lights came back on, but the big light had burned out or something, because it was still dark, then we got some wind and the wet stuff,,,, lots of wet stuff,,,, then more wet stuff, it was coming down so fast it was getting in each others way and plugged up the downspouts. Lasted for about 30 minutes, then we were BBQing just as planned.

Class help!!!
Marcarl replied to Big Hack's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The only thing I can suggest at this point, is the soldering. Did you remove the old solder and put on new stuff,,, that might be the answer. -
I really think spoked rims would be a better choice for you Charlie. It would require lots more cleaning time and so less opportunity to get yourself in some trouble.

Just read this last night,,,, you all have our prayers for a speedy recovery, both physical and mental. I will warn all you 'good' folk!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a family site and dissing other members will not be tolerated. We want to keep things friendly here, so you all may want to print a retraction of the nasty things you inferred about little ole me. Posts have been deleted in the past, and I would not like to see one of Annie posts, or the complete thread deleted because of such nasty comments that have come out here lately. I will bring this to the bosses attention,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and then he can laugh as well. By the way Annie, that's an awesome machine!!!!!
