Thanks for the update, maybe pretty soon James can add to this thread himself. In the meantime we'll pray for a complete and speedy recovery, and plan to be painting soon I guess. What was missed is: How's Alice doing, so we need an update on her as well.

Somehow I don't think the deer gets enough credit throuh the whole story. It's only mentioned once, but somehow I think it deserves more credit than that. So lets see, bikers hits the back of an open pickup at the difference in speed of 10mph, and is catipulted into the bed of the pickup. nice job.

Even though we couldn't be there this year, we kept abreast, (is that a bad word)(maybe it would be if I said twobeast) of what was going on, for as much as we could by what was posted, we did notice that those who attended had a great time and some awesome rides, all thanks to the folks who stuck their necks out to put it all together. Thanks you all for doing such a thing, so that the rest of us, those who could make it, could enjoy the direct interaction and company of each other. A special thanks to those who posted pictures and remarks, it kind of helped us be there and it sure was nice to stay in contact that way. Now where are we going next year????????????

I missed yesterday, had too many other things on the go,,,,napping is important in a bosses life. Today Saddlebum stopped by and we wasted the afternoon talking about everybody that wasn't here,,,,we had a lot to talk about,,,, took 3 coffees before I could get him to get up,,,,,,I mean he spent the afternoon and we enjoyed each other's company for the time it took to drink 3 coffees. Thanks Ben, it was great to have you over. Jopie and Mary stopped by on Tuesday, so I wonder who's turn it is tomorrow. Tonight we going out to Kitchener to watch my daughter play...............I can't say that word on this forum,,,I hear it's a bad word now and can onlly be played by older wiser people. Anyways, today I'm kind of walking around on my own, keeping the crutches handy but able to get up without waiting for 5 minutes before I can move. I think that's kind of good. Tomorrow I plan to look at the scoot to see how high the seat has risen. You know if you don't ride for a while somebody comes along and boosts the seat up so you have to swing the leg higher to get on. I'll leave you with some pictures from yesterday, because the camera person was on strike today. Picture 1 Monday Picture 2 Wednesday Picture 3 Look mom, no crutches

Help, broke down 2,000 miles from home
Marcarl replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check the area around your triple tree and up into the faring, could be a wire there that just got to play around too much and eventually gave up altogether. Sounds to me to be a wire that is broken or let go of the end connector. As is released completely it touched ground, which would give you the unexpected flashing from the flashing unit. Just some of my thoughts. -
Been there, done that, did you look under the bed, maybe in the back of the Saab, don't say no, go look,,,,seek and you will find, or else it will be right where it is, look up.

There's two bolts and the wire holding the starter on, but it's in behind the front exhaust system, you'll have to lay down to get at it and maybe remove the chin faring in the front for easier access. Getting it back in is more fun. If you take it apart, make very sure that you mark up the outside of the case so that it goes back together identical to the way it came apart. That will save a lot of frustration when you go to install the wire again. Before you do all that though, check your battery terminals to make sure they are clean (so you clean them) and tight. Also check the main ground at the lower, front, right side of the engine, close to the waterpump, clean and tighten it, and while you're at it, add a ground wire from the engine to the frame. You might find that the starter is no longer an issue, and can leave it there until you have to do 2nd gear.

So why did it fall off? and did you figure out wy the kights didn't work? Can't help you on the spoiler though, wish I could, but somebody will jump in to help out.

Temperature Gauge
Marcarl replied to Poledar's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You might check to make sure the wire coming from the sending unit is attached. The sending unit is behind the right hand faring, just to the front of and above the front valve cover. Looks to be attached to the termostat housing. You can probably reach it if you take off the radiator side cover. I would check that connection first. Then I would check to see if the guage actually works before I get involved in solder joints in the dash panel. You could ground out the wire at the sending unit and if the guage responds then either that connection is bad, or you need a new sending unit. That's my take on it anyways. Some one may have more technical ideas, or prove me out to lunch,,, but hey, that's food and I going. -
I think it's time we have a rally, or some get together for those who can get together, let's see there's 1rooster, yammer dan, marcarl, jgorome, jopster,,,,,maybe more, but I can't think of any right at the moment. Best to do, Rooster, is let the missus take good care of you. Don't make any sudden moves, like getting up to get the beer, or coffee yourself, or let her think that maybe you can do the dishes or the cooking. Keep a low profile, moan heavily once in a while,,,, start to get up and the sink back down,,,, fall asleep when you're eating,,,,, ask for extra pillows, doesn't matter where you put them. In good time you'll get good at this typing thing and we'll have everybody else convinced that we're having a great time. For now, heal fast, the scoot is aging. Glad to hear it went so well, and I'll bet it don't hurt as much as yesterday.

89 VR Carb Sync Problems - HELP
Marcarl replied to rmcclain's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ok, so it looks like even though I was screwed up on front and back etc, (I was going by memory, not actuality) you got things lined up to carry on. And it sounds like you're on the right track. Now what I would check is the amount of play in the throttle cable. To work as per spec's there should be about a 1\16" play in the throttle, measured at the handle. At this point I would lossen that a bit, just to make sure that the cable is not the culprit. Twist your throttle and at the same time look to where it is hooked to the carb. Once you get the feel of where is activates the carb you can look to see how much play there is, or you can do this by feel, one hand on the throttle and one on the carb linkage. Once you have determined that it's not the cable, it could also be the linkage and springs that are holdinng things up, so give them a washdown with wd40 or carb cleaner. maybe that will help lossen things enough for all of it to work as it should. -
Click on the following link, then click on 'slide show' top right corner, it takes aminute to get started, and nothing seems to happen in the meantime. See if that works. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Hub%20day%201%20and%202/

I see your not old yet, nor are you any wiser. The older you get, the more time is taken,,,,,,,,the sweeter the reunion, the longer the pause,,,,,,,,, the more friends you have coming, the longer they're gonna hav'ta wait.

Yep, sure can, and often if yo can't find the exact right brushes you can get something close ans shave it down to fit. I don't think your brushes would be worn that bad though, probably a good cleaning and lube, and you'd be back to having fun. I'm sitting here all day doing nothing, so if you want some help, it's a 2 hour run and a 1 hr fix if you don't need brushes.519.753.six eight five six.
