radio noise filter
Marcarl replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Next thing would be to unplug the attenna from the radio and the CB and then see if you still have some noise, or else drop it by and we'll pull it apart and then see what happens. There are also noise filters that do both the ground and the positive, maybe get one of those and hook it in. -
I thought you had a real bike,,,,,,,,,now what did you go and do????????????

So why don't we plan on leaving Tuesday night, over night at some cheap dump and then ride away from it all day Wednesday and end up looking at some fireworks in the evening. So OK, all my ideas aren't the best, so I don't mind if you trash one or two.

Plea for advise/help
Marcarl replied to 84xj1100's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Fuse block could be your problem, is on a lot of 1st gens. Check the tension on the fuse holders, those little brass things that hold the fuse in place while in the fuse block and are supposed help to transfer the electrical current from one side of the block to the other. As they get old they loose their tension and could break off altogether and the signs of the times are that you start to have sparatic electrical issues that fix all by themselves it seems. Take a look, pull out the fuse and squeeze the ends together, you may find that they break off. Replace the block is the answer. -
Antenna bracket

I went to my local CB store, picked up two flat aluminum truck mounts, the extended type, cut the one off and welded the pieces together. If you need a picture I'll see what I can do. I now have the clamped part to fasten onto the trunk rack, extended out past the trunk, with the hole all ready for an attennna. A little more money than what needs to be spent, but it works good and looks just fine. -
What's the scoop, you don't like eating good food??????? wouldn't have thought that 2 weeks ago, but now you got me wondering,,, oh you fixed it,,,,,that's better.

Maybe a slight correction here Tom I should have let Dana off and then tried it. You are right. But I like what condor suggested. I should have stopped, let her off, and then just backed up and turned around. Just glad it wasn't nay worse. God Bless Carl /

Tightening the steering Head attempt
Marcarl replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a metal rod that I use just for that purpose. I have ground it down square and a little angled to do the job. it's long enough to be able to reach the nuts and so get a good tap on it. I use a mallot, about 2 lbs I think, that way I can wack more with less impact, if you know what I mean. Also, make sur you are on the lower part of the nuts, not on the top nut. Wack a couple of times and you should see some movement. Also, your steering should be fully turner to the right, right up against the stop, so that it is solid against your hammering. -
I know; another post, but

Try a different set of shoes or boots, or maybe make some adjustments to your shifter pedal. -
Would you spend $1.88 to save your life?
Marcarl replied to frogmaster's topic in Safety and Education
I find that if I install them I have to look twice, once in the reg mirror and then another look in the fisheye, oh ya and then I remember to do a shoulder check as well, tooo much time to do a check for my comfort, so I just do a shoulder check, it's quick, easy and accurate and I don't have to worry. Guess that's why they were so heavy on that at rider's training. -
I kind of feel like I'm 'second hand' now. Don't anybody else try this again, or I'll feel even worse, and then what'll I do for hugs.

What do these plugs say
Marcarl replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
An old timer told me that trick years ago, so we all did it occasionally just to keep the combustion chamber cleaned up. Haven't had to worry much about it lately with no-lead, fuel injection and all, but it did work. Mechanics were always amazed at how clean the combustion chamber and the rings were if you did this once in a while. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for fuel injection, don't know why, just never tried it, but it makes sense in carburated engines of yesteryear. The fluid doesn't burn as quickly as fuel and so tends to bind with the carbon in the cylinder, loosens it, and helps it to burn off or to be ejected right out the back side. Result? a clean or cleaner combustion chamber. -
What do these plugs say
Marcarl replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'd say put about 1\2 qrt transmission fluid in a tank full of gas, run it thru, and then post again. Seems you have carbon build up in the one cylinder, and that will cause some issues. -

With nothing in the oil pan, I'd be interested in what it could be. Does the tranny shift ok? -

1st gen manual download: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3384 Your sticky throttle could be a carb sync needed, or the cables need to be adjusted or lubbed or both, or one or the other cable maybe starting to fray. I would do a carb cleaning with Seafoam 1st, then do a sync, if that don't fix it then do a lub on the cables and lastly would be to change the cables because that means work,,, but it's all worth it,, you now have an awsome scooter. -
Now that is good news, I'll tell Marca if I can remember that long enough to when I get in the house. Ride well Mary, and Jopie,, look after her eh!!???!!!
