  1. A come-a-long would probably work but I wouldn't care to carry one around all the time. I was thinking more along the lines of that pictured below. You can stuff it just about anywhere it would fit. Doesn't weigh a lot, doesn't take up much room, is ply-able, and will do the job. Racheting tiedowns aren't too good of an idea as they don't have a heck of a lot of movement before the spool gets cloggd up. The 4:1 purchase is a pretty handy item. Use it anytime you find something you thought you could move, but can't anymore.......
  2. Four fried pies for a buck!!! Just kidding. Sorry about that. The sailor in me snuck out. It's a block and tackle set up. If you can't find a deadfall you can carry an anchor and kedge it back up......
  3. One of my front shocks on the '83 just started to groan. I wonder if the 'Eck' fix would work on it also????
  4. From what I've seen on 2ndGens that have been dropped is the rear trunk always seems to have scratches and dings. The only way that can happen is if the bike goes all the way down. 'Course I don't know if it happens everytime, but I see a lot of damaged trunks. If getting it back up is a problem carry a 4:1 purchase. Hook it to any deadfall... car bumper, tree, fire hydrant, etc.... and bring it back up. Personally I couldn't get my butt low enough to get below the seat and use the push with the legs method. May look funny when doing it, but it'll get the job done. The last resort is a trike.... then you never need worry.....
  5. You bet Dave, Granddaughters are always Grampa's. Go spoil her.....
  6. Man, talk about going deep south..... Hola Amigo...eh!!!
  7. What a great read..... Thanks for the link.
  8. The question is still open to debate. It only farted....
  9. Did you drowned trying to fry it????:rotf:
  10. Any Southern Calif. members who have a few extra $ floating around might enjoy attending this auction in Mira Loma on Saturday. AUCTION And it might even be intertaining to just watch if you don't....
  11. National sales meetings are the one thing I miss when working for someone else back in another lifetime. Always had a great time....well maybe not always now that I think about it..... Now I hold one every day with my employee. Not as much fun when your self employed.... Have a good time......
  12. Deer=4 Elves=1.... it's gonna be a fun christmas.....
  13. After thinking about it a bit, I guess Yamaha does know the problem exists, and they actually did something about it with the 1stGens linked proportional braking system. I wonder why they abandoned it on the 2ndGens?? Probably the only way around it totally would be an all ABS braking system....
  14. Steve, glad you made it OK, but I'm getting to think that this second gen touchy rear brake lock up problem is getting very serious and scary. Has Yamaha ever addressed.... or admitted to the possibility of a problem existing??? Anybody written to Yamaha about it?? Your high side results were fortunate, but someone else might not be so lucky.....
  15. I've done over 400 ebay deals and just about every one of them has been great, both buying and selling. But every once in a while (3-4 total) you run into a seller that has his head stuck where the sun don't shine. Luckly when I did run into them they only scammed me for a few bucks. It's the good guys that put Ebay where it is today.
  16. I don't have a lot of stuff, but in jackets I picked up a Field Shear mesh with a liner that I like a lot. No liner and 105 +/- and it was very comfortable. I've also had reason to use it with the liner down to 40deg and it was nice. I was actually surprised the liner did so well. When it gets real cold I don't ride. The 40degs snuck up on me.... :whistling:I also have a couple of leather jackets that are more for style than protection, but wear them when I wanna be cool.... One of these days I'll pick up a pair of Dragin' Jeans because they seem to be the only folks that make jeans big enough to fit my bod comfortably. Nothing worse than riding with a pair of pants that are too tight. My boots are EMT laced/side zippered. Light weight, good ventalation, and easy on and off. I have two pair of gloves, one gauntlet syle, and the other open fingered and carry them both on the bike. Used according to the temp. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it......
  17. IMPORTANT For all of those who purchased sets of MAC Mufflers this last time around please open them as soon as you get your shipments. Richard opened his and found that both mufflers were for the right side. Someone out there has two lefts, and we need to get this straightened out. There must have been a mix up at the factory when boxing them up. If you do find a pair of lefts drop me a PM. We need to get this problem squared away. ~CONDOR~ PS: I just called MAC and they only built 10 sets to order, so one of us has a box with two lefts in it. BTW: the left side has the extra tang up front for the center stand rubber bumper. The right side has the one for the frame mount only.
  18. Like LoneEagle I use a Nolan Flip, and it does seem a little bit noisy. It does have a ridge that the front cantalevers down into and I'm going to see if putting a little 1/4" bead of stick on weather stripping in there to see if that will help. However, that said, I don't really want a helmet that's completely sound proof. The ears are just as important as the eyes when keeping track of things going on around you....
  19. I agree with Scott about the competition thing, but if you need a benchmark for attendees, why not keep score by patches? That'll keep it down to just the majors... That'll also keep that Alabama group down to a dull roar....... :-)
  20. It can get real exciting...........
  21. That explains it.........
  22. OK Wiz ya wanna explain. I'm not sure where you're going with that statement?????????????????
  23. All manufacturers have to play the traction vs wear game. Get a hard coumpound tire that lasts mega miles, and it doesn't have half the traction of a softer compound tire which only lasts 5-6K. I think any heavy cruiser bike tire that lasts 10K-12K is adiquate. Probably a happy medium. I don't know which compound cost more to produce.... maybe they're the same??.... but if I have a tire that will give me 10K and good traction on a cruiser I'm happy.
  24. A lot of Folks have gone with the Odyssey Dry Battery and seem to like them.
  25. Take a spray bottle full of very soapy water and spray the 'H' out of it. Slow leaks make big bubbles.....
