  1. Hi all, I was hoping to get my feet into the new for 2020 Klim Adventure boots and Santa came through. They not only look awesome but are perfectly designed for their intended purpose. All day adventure riding - which means, riding, reasonable off road protection and importantly walking around or hiking comfort. It does all those and more. Of course you can always ask our good friend @cowpuc what he wears but remember that he rides two up on a loaded 1st Gen in the dirt where I would need a Trials bike to contend with the terrain....so where I need a suit of armor, he is protected the by the love of his life sitting right behind him 🙂 Comments always welcome https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2020/11/29/klim-adventure-gtx-boots-review-target-audience-perfection/ Venturefar...
  2. Hi all, As most of you know, I am very fortunate to have met the editor of ultimatemotorcycling.com magazine and he sets me up with cool gear to test. I could be testing bikes too, but I moved 1000 miles away from him and there are very few bikes I would consider doing an ironbutt on..... @cowpuc here is my latest review of an Adventure style boot. I am thinking that many of us have more than one motorcycle and may be interested in this review. If not, " nothing to see here, move along" :-) https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2020/08/20/alpinestars-corozal-adventure-drystar-boots-test-motorcycle-footwear/ VentureFar...
  3. My wife got a coupon on cyber Monday for 20% off the Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure so she signed me up. So on Febuary 9 i'll be at Talladega Superspeedway to do 20 laps, driving 10 with a instructor and 10 by my self in cars that do do up to 185 MPH. Is that going to be fun or what, i canted wait.
  4. Today is an adventure day. Two years ago on last month, I flew to Ohio to buy & drive home with my current motorcycle. Today I'm taking a bus to Louisville, KY. At 7AM tomorrow, the seller is picking me up. I should be buying it & on the road by 10AM for a 10 hour ride back home. Late Saturday or Sunday I'll be home with the new MC Trike (depending on temp & weather). Two years ago when I flew in to Ohio, A VentureRider.org member met me there. He had just conversed with me when I newly became a member & talked about buying a RSV from Adventure HD. He & his wife picked me up at the airport, took me to the HD dealer, invited me to their house for pizza & beer, helped me change the rear tire & then escorted me 20 miles to get me started. I will never forget that HummingBird. Thanks! BTW - This seller is a previous VentureRider.org member. JohnB
  5. It's killing me to think about doing another engine swap into my 83/86 Venture Frankenbike. And I'm very ticked off to not be riding the rest of the season. I still may try to get another 86-93ish engine, or another 86-93ish Venture, ride it for a couple more months, and do an engine and plastic swap. But it's stressing the crap out of me. I've read a LOT of adventure rider riding reports the past 2.5 years, and it really intrigues me to be able to go odd pavement on a lighter bike. I've looked at a new Honda NC700 and a Suzuki 650 Vstrom and I'm approved for either one. My wife isn't on the wagon. I'm more interested in the Vstrom. I may try to look at used Vstroms depending on if I can get financing. I'm very interested in the high gas mileage (65mpg); that would pay for over 50% of the payment (new one), increasing my monthly $ commitments about $100/month, and I wouldn't have to touch it mechanically for a lot of years other than normal maintenance. Tomorrow I'm going to go to the credit union and see what Kind of financing I can get for different options. If I do go the adventure rider bike route I will just part out all of my Venture stuff. Sucks that I barely spent almost $200 for a new rear tire. I'm just getting VERY sick of life's curve balls. Doug
  6. I don't post much on this site but I read it every day. I thought I would share a slide show of our recent 10 day motorcycle trip to the Grand Canyon. (Gloss Mountain State Park, Black Mesa, Chapel of the Cross in Sedona, Great Sand Dunes, Durango Silverton Train, Four Corners Monument, Monument Valley, Painted Desert, Aztec Ruins, Valley of the Gods in Utah, the Grand Canyon, a few unexpected gravel and muddy roads (road construction) and lots of great restuarants) We traveled a total of 3200 miles leaving Central Arkansas on Friday Sept 9. Glad my wife and I were on a comfy RSV. The bike made it just fine, even at 10,200ft over the mountains coming into Taos, NM. We plan to make a major trip like this once a year as long as we can. It was a fantastic adventure. Click the link below and it will load automaticlly. 7. Well, today starts our Icelandic adventure..We are all packed and ready to go...will be heading to the airport in about 4 hours or so....yesterday our daughter was admitted into the hospital with chest pains...she is 35. They are running test on her today and we will have to await the outcome to see what caused this..Taters like any mother is concerned about leaving without knowing why this happened .....hope we hear something before we leave. Just got off the phone with Jonas (StarFan) and he sounds as excited as we are...This is going to be a fun week for sure. He has made arrangements to spend the week with him at his sisters summer cottage in the mountains on or near a lake...Gonna bring the 44mag. and show him the way we fish for salmon here in the states.. Will post pictures in a day or so....ON WITH THE ADVENTURE !!!!
  8. My nephew Colin in Seattle is filming a documentary beginning later this month that looks really interesting. Here's the link to the project: http://coffeeracerproject.com/ He will be departing Seattle on or about June 18th, and will be riding through WA, OR, CA, NV, AZ, NM, CO, UT, WY, ID, and then back through to Seattle. I along with many other supporters will be monitoring his trip on-line as he rides through these states and meets and talks to hundreds of regular Americans about "exploring the notion of choosing between pursuing our dreams and being present in our realities. Do we have to? Can we keep the magic of adventure and discovery alive while simultaneously being productive and responsible? What is it to grow up?" I love the fact that he is pursuing his dream of making this film, and that he is doing it on a bike. OK, so it's a Kawi KLR650 and not an RSV. But it's still a bike! Anyway, he asked me if I could recommend any really unique highways and byways through these states that he should consider including on the 3 week trip route. So if you know of any, please let me know and I'll pass it on to him. (And if you want to be a part of this unique adventure and help him reach his goal so he can be fully funded, visit the above web site and feel free to help him out.) Thanks!

  10. The adventure on the Venture continues http://www.photoshow.com/watch/RC3Wh3SG Lost my $200 camera, I gave it to bear to hold and for some reason he drop it off the bike at 65 MPH. Never found it! glad I had a back up!
  11. On the 27th of Feb I was honored to participate in a PGR mission for a corrections officer from Monroe Washington who was killed on his motorcycle by a 16 year old who was on her cell phone and not paying attention to her driving. After the memorial I started up by 05 RSTD and....No lights!! I knew it was a blown fuse but I didn't want to pull the cover on the fuse box, replace the fuse, and have it blow again as I tried to head home at night, only 80 miles but it was getting dark. Our ride Captain called Adventure Motorsports in Monroe. They were getting ready to close but would wait until I got there. As soon as I arrived the mechanic (Luke) took the bike into the shop. He diagnosed the problem as a bad connection from the passing lights...corrected it with a quick rewiring, replaced the fuse, threw in a couple of spares because I didn't have ANY spare fuses. I was charged a total of $12.00! This dealership stayed open for me, fixed the problem and got me back on the road in 1/2 hour! My hat is off to Adventure Motorsports. Here is their address and phone number if you ever need help in my part of Washington state. Adventure Motorsports 17321 Tye St SE #A Monroe, WA 98272 Phone: (360) 805-5550 silverdeer

  17. I just have to put a big plug for Ed and his company. He has been patiently working with me over the last week as I go through ordering a couple of headsets etc to work with the new J+M CB/Intercom I got for Marilyn's vstar. The man is a godsend and one that other businesses should model themselves after (I know some have). I cant wait for his product to arrive so we can continue our adventure as this (me) dummy tries to install everything!
