I wondering if any OF's (over 62) on the board have picked up one of those Lifetime Senior Park Passes for $10 bucks? And if so where did you go to apply for it? Seems like it would be a good thing to have if you plan on visiting any National Parks in the future, and the $10 bucks is kinda cheap......

If you're around my size...'bout three months.... Just kidding... Like all things they'll probably collapse in due time, but I've never heard of a set going bad yet. Look how long did it take before the stock springs went??.. There could be other reasons your bottoming out beside the springs. How's your air pressure? Changed the fork oil lately. Etc. And you may not be bottoming out at all. A loose fairing will sound like 'H' when you hit a bump... Maybe??

It all depends on how you're looking. I've been picking up the side vents fairly inexpensively. The last one I bought was installed in a fairing. Bought the whole fairing for $40 bucks on Ebay, and that included the shipping. Removed the vent and Ebay'd the fairing for $25. $15 bucks..no tax..no shipping ain't too bad... I also buy one-zies anytime I can. Eventually I'll end up with pairs. With five bikes to feed I have to be creative...... MOF I think I have the only 83 Royale with '87standard side fairings and the vents. Looks neat!! I still have the original sides and will probably swap them back out when the time comes to sell.... -
[quote=Gearhead;156265 Hmmm...strong possibility! You can probably tell by analyzing the behavior of the front end. Run it on minimum air pressure and go over some sharp bumps or brake really hard - does it bottom or clunk in the front? Or you could get scientific, get a helper and measure static sag. Bottom line - if the bike shows evidence of riding low and floppy with minimum air pressure, it proably has stockers. IMHO, that is. Jeremy I'll be able to tell more when I get the oil leak taken care of and feel comfortable taking it out for a ride. I have an '83 with Progressives to compare its ride to. It also has a screw-on oil filter, so the possibilities are strong.

Yep, I stand corrected. After doing some research on the web I found that the sulphuric acid remains in the battery and just the water vaporizes and gases off. Distilled or de-ionized water only. Thanks for the info Jeremy.

I think the biggest problem is that when you get older the body starts slowing down and the synapsis don't fire like the used to, but...... the brain still thinks the same way we did back when we were immortal. Heck, I still think I can still stuff the ball, can play above the rim with a 36" vertical leap, am stronger, and can outplay most of the pro-hoop guys today. Not....!! But I think I can.... It's knowing my limitations that keeps it in perspective. When I picked up my first VR, 2 1/2 years ago, it took me a whole month before I felt confortable, and those riding skills I'd had, after a 10 year haitus, started to return. Even now when I ride I keep my head on a swivel, and think every cage is going to pull out in front of me from a side street, or make an oncoming left hand turn in front of me. Those two incidences are the major cause of fatal MC accidents. I've come to the conclusion that if you daydream on a bike long enough....you will die.

I'm just wondering what this guy expects, and why he needs proof that the bike exists? He might just be cautious, but the 'does it exist' problem is something that holds true with any Ebay motorcycle auction. I definately wouldn't take a token down and hold it. Even a non-refundable deposit could go bad and you end up sitting on the bike all winter with no money until spring before you can relist it. The idea of having an aquaintence inspect it has merit, but if he doesn't know anyone in the area perhaps having him call a local dealer that knows the bike could vouch for it. Better yet, ask him what he would need as proof.... If his requests get a little strange, forget him and go on....

I've put 365,000 miles on an '87 F250 Diesel, and my current '92 F250D is right at 240,000, so I'm pretty familiar with Ford trucks. The only problem they seem to have is auto trannys going every 100,000 before 1996 when they redesigned the thing. Other than that they are pretty bullet proof. I wanted an auto in the '87, but the guys down at the Ford dealer said the best thing that could have happened is me finding a used one with a 4 speed manual. I had a buddy that had an identical '87, but with an auto the same time that I owned mine, and every 100 thousand he had to rebuild the tranny.

I think a book idea is great, but wonder if it would never be completed, as new and fresh ideas keep appearing on the forum. I do think the idea of a 'living' downloadable data file that could be added to as needed would be a better way to go. The problem would be to get someone to be the 'editor'.?? My 2¢.....

Denden- That's what I was kinda coming up with after reading all the info. I actually hope it is the pan that's leaking. I think I can handle that. It's not easy for me to get my big bod and hands up into the underside of the bike. I have a lift, but think it would only get in the way while the bike's sitting on it, and it looks like I'd probably have the best access with the bike on the side stand anyway.

With a little patients you should be able to find all the stuff you need on Ebay. It's a buyers market on 1stGen parts right now. MOF everything you've listed is common from 86-93..... -
At $118 bucks for thicker aircraft grade material it sounds like a good deal. I like the fact that each one is custom made and the entire windshield can be tinted. Nice find....

Harbor Freight Bike Lift on sale!!!! Save $150
Condor replied to KiteSquid's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
My bike weighs more than a 100 lbs..... -
Just a guess, but maybe you have a faulty chip since it's been doing it all along. ??? As far as a fix? Try finding just the box on ebay for a couple of bucks and swap them out. I don't think it would be economical giving it to tech.???

Another 30 years and that thing's going to be worth at least $2.50. A great investment!!!

I donno...my mind keeps coming up with things that aren't appropriate for this board..... I give up....

Yes, keep it in a glass bottle and make sure it's labled.

I've got time on my hands Paul. Biz sucks!! I think we have two different seals being discussed here. One is for the clutch push rod, and the other is for the gear shifter rod. I guess I'll have to dig the manuals out. When I moved into my new office I boxed up a lot of stuff, and the manuals were in the mess. Trying to avoid the hunt. I have read the .ftp copy, but it doesn't get into fixing leaks, just removing the whole engine....
-
Great story Todd.... I'll have to remember that about the exhaust... I think your saying that you pulled the slave to replace the seal, and could get the rod out the left side?? I've done a couple of slaves and didn't know the rod would clear the left side. Heck I didn't even know there was a seal in the block, and thought the oil seal was actually handled by the one in the slave... I guess it's only a dust seal. Shows you what I know.... What did you use to remove the old seal? BTW this is on the '91...
