  1. I got a leak from the oil plug. I don't know if it is the plug or the oil pan threads that are stripped but I would assume that it is the oil pan threads. What do I have to do to fix this? I have a 8 hr trip to Sioux City planned for Friday. Iowa Guy
  2. I have picked up a 1983 venture for a parts bike but it is in good condition so i am going to get it running. First thing i did was clean the carborators and it ran pretty good, took it for a short ride only to find out i could not shift into 4th or 5th, after checking a few things and reading in the forums i took apart the clutch only to find a pin missing there is only 5 pins with one tab bent over and the pin is nowhere to be found. I have removed the oil pan only to find no pin there either. Could someone tell me where i can get the updated one that has a soild cover to hold the pins in. I will also need a pan gasket and a pin. Does anyone have any idea where the pin went. Not sure if that is why the other owner sold as parts bike. Have looked on top of oil pump and around that area. Any help would be great. Thanks Dave
  3. Using an automotive floor jack (and a block of wood) what is the best location to lift the bike. (for example to change fork bearings) I don't see clear access to the frame & I don't want to crush the exhaust. Can I use the engine pan? I will eventually get a M/C Jack Sorry for all the questions but I don't find any in the search & I figure thre will be something for future VentureRiders!
  4. One word,,,,,,, "Oh crap". Was crusing down I-20 with traffic at about 75 when the rear tire started getting squirlly. Pulled off just in time to pull in to a parking lot. Yep, flat rear, bolt in the tire. My son-in-law brought my trailer. As I was about to ride up the ramp he said,,,, "you sure you can make that angle?". I said yeah,,,, without really checking. You guessed it, the oil pan hit the trailer bed edge and knocked the oil plug 1/2 way out and broke open the bottom of the oil pan, setting up for a rapid oil drain. I will check with the dealer and look on Pinwall. But my dealer is great and likely will take it there. SO,,, Anyone got guesses on repair cost. I'm guessing the only damage is the oil pan it's self. Thanks, Mike G
  5. I have found what appears to be a tooth off a gear in my oil pan. Very small tooth, but I think it is that due to the profile on the sides. It has equal angles very similar to a gear tooth. I haven't started going through all the possible parts yet, just found it and it is late. Width is about .167" (across beveled faces) About .215" tall One guess is maybe cam tensioner? What else in there a gear this small? Brain is not putting a place to this piece. Gary
  6. Me thinks; I is in deep Kemchie,,,, While I have the plastic, and body in the paint shop, I am doing things to get it ready to put all back together,,You know Plugs, fuel filter, cleaning under tank Oil and filter........ I drain the oil out and it sits for a few hours, and change the filter. When putting the oil plug back in I heard a slight "snap" or "click" I start putting in the new oil, and just for the heck of it look under ( more out of habit ) the bike, and holly crap!!!! Oil pouring out. Got a clean pan and caught 99% of it back, and then found that the Oil Pan had Cracked there at the plug........... How Screwed am I From the service manual it looks like there are 12 bolts that have to be removed. and a sensor. Now this was 11:30 last night, and I haven't given it a good examination, on the placement yet. The big question is can the oil pan be removed without loosing or removing the big part ( engine ) The part in the parts fiche ( I think ) is called Strainer Cover, 26H-13417-01-00 Holy Cow How did this happen............:bang head:
  7. Does anyone out ther have a passenger backrest pan to fit a 2009 Royal Star Venture trunk? Doesnt matter if cushion is torn or in good shape. I recon anything 1999 to 2009 will work. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. I have a 1999 RSV. I got a new valve cover gasket today, and I took the old one off. There was silicone every where. I was wondering if the valve cover pan was on the wrong way. There is an arrow in the pan that was pointing toward the back tire. I am wondering if it is suppose to point that way or does it really matter? Thanks hairman
  9. This is a very short video...please watch - it is amazing. I never realized that a wet dishcloth can be a one size fits all lid to cover a fire in a pan! This is a dramatic video (30-second, very short) about how to deal with a common kitchen fire ... oil in a frying pan. Read the following introduction, then watch the show .. It's a real eye-opener!! At the Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10 foot pole toss water onto the grease fire. The results got the attention of the students. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly become superheated. The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast. Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fire ball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room. Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite. http://randsco.com/index.php/2007/05/30/p442
  10. OK, I've never replaced a pan gasket before, so I thought I'd ask the experts. After getting the exhaust and collector out of the way can I drop the pan, or am I just starting. Man.... I hope I don't have to pull the motor.....
