  1. Kit... you have way to much time on your hands..... Go ride...
  2. Keeps you warm and dry and....no bugs... Ain't edit wonderful........ http://c.myspace.com/Groups/00004/79/70/4760797_m.jpg
  3. Probably not an Iron Butt, but..... something closer to a well diggers ass!! Brrrrr.....
  4. Didn't see anything worth while...... All second gen stuff that looks like something a Harley rider would wear......
  5. Holy Moly!! That was the longest discription I think I've ever seen for an Ebay auction. Looked like the guy had the intire catalog listed. Are these guys so hard up, or cheap, that they can't go thru regular selling venues?? What ever happened to the private individual Ebay seller???
  6. On my 1stGen the PC680 came close to fitting, but I still had to shim up the sides with sheet styrofoam to fill the voids, and it is about a half inch taller. Works dandy. One thing I noticed different between the old Yuasa and the Odyssey is the Odyssey weighs twice as much as the old batt even though it has a smaller footprint. The best prices seem to be on Ebay. I checked with my local battery supplier and his price was about $25 bucks higher than Ebay sellers and sales tax on top of that. Ebay sellers generally include shipping and don't charge sale tax.
  7. Most of these wheely riders do it to be disrespectfull. Unfortunately they just happen to be doing it on a bike. They're of the same mindset as those that tag walls, cage race on the freeway, smoke tires at intersections.... etc. Notice they always do it when they can remain anonymous. It gives them a sense of power over others, and a disregard for the law. Why? Because they don't have any in their regular mediocre lives. No different that these kids running around with their baggy pants and their ass hanging out. They do it because they know it bugs you. Laugh at them and maybe they'll go away?? My 2¢
  8. I should have added in that last post that the slides are fluttering like they should. I think it's more along the plugged jet line. I'll know later this summer when I have time to get into it further. Right now with 4 Bikes to feed it's a priority thing.....
  9. Yeesh!!, been gone for 6 months and already startin' that y'all stuff.....
  10. Merry Christmas back atcha Barb. Vic....you too!!!
  11. I gotta question. From the simptoms you described my '87 does the same thing. Only runs when the choke is on, and when I try to give it the gas it sputters and stalls out. I can give it short quick busts and slowly build the r's up, but forget having it respond to pure throttle. This is with a second set of carbs. The first set acted this way, so I swapped out the carbs for a second set. When I first installed the second set the bike ran great. MOF awesome!! After a period of time the bike has reverted back to what I had with the first set. I know the diaphrams are good with both sets. I'm thinking I screwed up and didn't check out the fuel tank, and now have plugged up the jets with more crud. Rust maybe?? I did fill up the tank with fresh fuel after the second set success. I can't remember if I added Sea Foam?? Old age thing, too many bikes...... Merry Christmas Y'all..............
  12. Hmmmmm.... OK....
  13. Did you trade with someone else, or were the lights just given to you?:rotf:
  14. Check with Squidly. He was running around punching holes in factory windshields and installing vents at Venture West III in Susanville. Didn't hear of any problems.....
  15. OK, I gotta question on this gift thing. When two people get together and trade bells is this considered a swap or a gift? I would think a gift would be to give someone a bell unannounced and not expect one in return???
  16. Russell seems to recall that it was Tomephil, and if that's the case, thanks a bunch Tom. If it was Wayne....you too.... And here's a couple of pics of the covers on the '91.
  17. A couple of days ago Black Owl just sent me a pair of fork protectors that a member won at Ft Collins, and instructed Russ to send to me. It been a while since July and he can't remember who the member was...old age thing..., but that he thinks?? he came from Winnipeg...? Anyway I'd sure like to know who it is so I can thank him personally. Any Ideas. BTW Russ makes these things and I really like them.
  18. If you have an HD TV then I'd go ahead and get the service. See if you can dicker with your present provider. I've done this in the past and they generally have a few 'retainer' deals in their hip pocket in order to keep old customers. If they don't come up with anything, tell 'm your going to go check out the compitition. If you don't have an HD TV but plan on picking one up in the future go ahead get the regular service and add HD when the time comes.
  19. That's not possible Kit....
  20. Light is very fast so dark must be very slow. I bump into it regularly. MOF I'm in the dark a lot......
  21. Kit I can appreciate all the research and extensive trial testing you've done with your braking system, and for you your brakes probably work great. But..... no amount of practice is going to mentally prepare you for a correct response reaction time measured in nano-seconds. Your going to hit those brakes and hit them hard. Finess isn't going to come into play
  22. OK, I gotta say something. I read all this flap about stopping power and modifying braking systems, I can't believe it. The stopping power of any bike is directly related to the footprint of the tire. Big fat footprint.. lots of stopping power. Smaller footprint less stopping power. That's it. The trick is to apply as much resistance as you can without locking up the tire and loosing traction. Loose traction and you loose control. Don't use the rear brake and you're losing some braking, even if it's only a small amount. If that weren't the case they (the manufacturers) wouldn't even bother putting brakes on the rear of a bike. The fact that 2ndGens can lock up the rear very easily is something that will probably be dealt with by the manufacture in new model releases and ABS braking systems. The fact that 2ndGens experience greater braking power using the just the front linked calipers only stands to reason as they have double the friction applied to both rotors and a fatter stock tire. 1stGens only use one side when squeezing the hand lever. So I'm wondering what the problem is when comparing the two, or why any one would attempt to make the comparison in the first place. They're two different systems. The rear tire on the 1stGen doesn't lock up. Why?, because there is very little pressure applied to the rear caliper with the linked system. This doesn't mean that there isn't a small amount of traction left, and using it will give a little extra braking in a full blown panic stop. Will it make a big difference in the whole panic stop? Common sense says that even a little will help, especially when the front is locked up and your about ready to t-bone a "left hand Louie". Lock up the rear tire on a 2ndGen and your starting a chain of events that you may not be able to get out of. De linking the rear caliper on a 1stGen and you're eliminating a very small portion of your stopping power and increasing the possibility of locking up the rear ala a 2ndGen. Rick Butler has come up with a solution for 2ndGen bikes that essentially reverts the 2ndGen system back into a 1stGen system. Imagine still having that little bit of braking power and not high siding because of a rear wheel trying to get past the front of the bike. I might also add that it might be prudent to consider what a sharpie lawyer would do if after you had t-boned someone they found that you had modified the braking system. Chilling thought..... Just want to say that if I've offended anyone I apologize. I just got tired of people comparing Navels to Valencias.
  23. Scuffed dinged windshields go fairly cheap on Ebay.
  24. Yes, but it take 3 billion years for it to reach another intelligent life form followed by a flash as your car burns up in the atmosphere..... Huh???
  25. Geeze!!, where did you take it to for the the tune up, a chop shop??? On the side cover vents, I've tried to repair them but haven't been successfull. Didn't I see a post about them still being available new?? Or am I halucinating again....?? On the rest of the stuff, Ebay is about the only place I can think of. Oh yeah, contact Eck, I know he has a few free First Gen parts available.
