  1. Hey thier, I am in need of a few of the small hard to find stuff.. I need the fuel petcock, or actually just the handle off of one, and I need 1 or 2 exhaust clamps, where the headers meet the collector box. Any chance you have these parts laying around?
  2. Hey Don, Thanks for the help on the TCI, my son was able to find the bad diodes and replace them. We ended up cutting a access on the top (bottom?) of the unit and then sealing it back up.

I did have a question on your homemade exhaust cooper gaskets. What size cooper pipe did you use and where did you find it? (all I can find at Home Depot and Lowes is small stuff)

  3. Thanks, I actually never thought about holding open the throttle, but I will check again as soon as I get the bike back together. As I had mentioned in my first post, I have already ran all of the valve and adjusted shims. I even check, double checked and had a pal of mine triple check my numbers to make sure they all added up to be with in a good tolerance as per the book. I have pulled the TCI off and it actually had enough moisture in it to make a small puddle in my palm, so I figure that is not good. I did have a question about pulling the board all of the way out of the box, Is it done by de-soldering they pins (the 8 and 6) (and removing the screw from the middle of it) and then pulling the board? From the look I had under it, (just a small pry from the backside) that side has a few areas that can use some cleaning and inspecting. My son has volunteer to do the work, he is a electronics Tech for the Air Force, and I figure if he can work on the F117 electronics, he should be good to check out a 85 Yama I pretty much have the bike apart, and will begin putting it back together soon, I just hope after all of this fuel draining, carb adjusting, TCI cleaning, and just plan o tinkering, the bike will actually start, run clean, and I can finally go for a RIDE All course, non of this would have been possible with out the help of a bunch of great folks who are quick to share knowledge and offer plenty of advice,,,, as always, THANKS in ADVANCE!!
  4. As always, Thanks for all of the info, this will give me some work to do during my down time, as you said, it might not solve all of my problems, but I am sure it sure in the heck won't hurt to resolve these issues
  5. OK guys, it has been a while, I had to step away from the "Brown Bomber" for a bit, it seems work and health issues got in the way. So, I am now recovering from a minor surgery and have a couple of weeks to do some minor (light) work on the bike and need as always your trusted advise. The bike is having the same symtobs as when I left off. It will run, but only with the choke on, It likes to ideal up by itself, and then after a bit just cuts off. Here is what I have done so far Rebuilt carbs to include new dia's and choke dia's as well, and yes the small "o" ring is in place. New fuel lines, filter, and cleaned tank New Plug wires, boots, and plugs Check and shimmed valves #1,#3,#4 (140+/-) all good PSI, #2 a little weak (90+/-) (these numbers are from memory, but they should be close, main point is #2 is weaker then the other 3) Sync carbs by ear to the best of my ability Removed YCIS and Plugged all ports (except #2 for Vacumn thingy a giggy) - techo term I figured I would pull the TCI open and check it as I have read others had done and bake it. The bike has been in FL for most of it's life and I am sure the humidly has surely gotten into it by now. Is there a thread showing the location, removal and tips for checking/cleaning/repairing/drying this thing out? Any suggestions and tips on any of my symptoms would be greatly appreciated:missingtooth:
  6. Hey guys, 3 yrs corrections, 12 military and 11 Fire/Ems and Park Ranger. So I hope that counts. I ride with some of the best guys and gals in the world in a little ol' club called the Defenders!!! out of Southwest Florida.
  7. OK, So I have removed my YCIS and plugged the ports, but what exactly does the sensor do that is has a vac line coming off of #1 (#2?) jug and runs up under the dash and hooks to the Pressure Sensor / Free Boost Sensor? I can't seem to find anything about it. Just wonder ing, and how does one test it?
  8. So this is where I am at on my 1st Gen Project "The Brown Bomber". Pulled off the YCIS and installed plugs on ports, replaced the sync port plugs also. Rechecked valves and installed new cover gaskets. Purchased new Vac lines for the remaining. Had no luck what so ever in getting out the froozen Mixing Valves So instead of chancing destroying the Carb Bodies, I have purchased a gently used set of carbs off of Ebay and plan on using the best two to complete my set. Once that is done, I will put them pack on, cross my fingers and hope I have the miss and pooping out of it. Oh, I am also replacing the front two exhaust gaskets (?), since I removed them to rebuilt my collector. I am also checking all of my exhaust connections to ensure I have no leaks.... So what have i missed... I will update again as soon as I get things back togeather. Damm am I miss some great riding weather here in FL!
  9. Thanks a lot 86er', That will work, so it looks to me like it is the spring, washer , O-Ring. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the other two out and replaced... Thanks again
  10. Thanks for the link, but that is not exactly what I was looking for. I am looking at the Pilot Screw or Mixture Adjustment Screw. The one behind the brass plugs, that are usually set at 2 1/2 turns. Anyway, I got two out and could not remember the order of the parts, spring then ?? and then ?? (washer / o-ring) also, who ever had drilled out the plugs had screwed up head of two of the screws. So they are not coming out, what do I do now. options please:think: besides TNT and a long fuse
  11. OK, here is one for ya. I took the mixture jet out of the carb and all be damm if I can't remember witch way they go back in. Is it spring, washer, o-ring, or spring o-ring, washer. Any help would be greatly helpful...
  12. http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_select.asp, Just wanted to pass it on again guys, Flatout sells Yamaha OEM for $55.00 for the 1200. This is their regular everyday price, no sales, no one time bargain, just there everyday price. I purchased over $500 worth of stuff from them and their Customer Service was flat-on. Quick to return calls and emails. Like I said, just passing it on
  13. Hey Guys, I just purchased new Diaphragms from Flatout MotorCycles in IN. I got the info from this group and they have been great to work with. Chris is Parts is very helpful and even returns phone calls. Anyway, I got them for $55 each, which is a awesome price (my local thief (dealer) wanted $97 each. I have included his link. I can't say enough about their service, he even shipped it on Thursday and I got it on Friday AM (in Florida), and it only cost me an extra $5 bucks!! http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_select.asp, I purchased part # 41R-14940-09-00. Good luck and I hope this helps
  14. What exactly is the "YICS system", I have one and yes it has the 4 hoses, properly the original ones, so can I plug it off? I am now beginning to start the process of elimination game, checking exhaust gaskets, rubber plugs on the sync ports, vacuum lines, ect and Kevin please forgive me, I am not trying to hijack your thread, but it looks like we are both fighting the same demons. I promise to report any success and failures I am having so maybe we can come to a group fix
  15. Hey Kevin, I truly feel your pain, I have a 85 VR, so far I have rebuilt the carbs, (New Diaphgrams, o rings, dipped and cleaned) shimmed the valves, new plug wires and plugs. The bike is running strong, but the backfiring is driving me nuts, and I have had no luck at all in getting the carbs to sync. But all they are saying makes a lot of since. I am sure I have some holes in my collectors, I have not checked all of my vacuum lines or the plugs that cover the sync ports, and two of my pilot jets are locked tighter then hell and so far not coming loose. If I have learned anything so far about the 1st Gen VR, is it is a labor of love, and this group is the best when it comes to giving great advice... Good luck, and I will continue to read replies to your question in hopes of finding my gremlin. When if I do find my problem, I promise to pass it on to all....
