Use to be with Dish but due to lousy, and I really mean lousy service, I fired them. Went with Direct TV and what a difference. Great service, far, far more HD channels. Had a problem with one of the DVRs here and they were out the next day and replaced it with no quesions asked. Of course, they love me. I have 8 receivers, two of which are HD DVRs and my monthly bill is "are you crazy dude". Uverse came out and tried selling me a package. I found out they are even worse than Dish. No thanks. Oh btw, with Direct TV, I get all my local channes, then some.

If it doesn't leak oil, I'm sorry, I won't be interested. THERE I SAID IT!!

Hey Brad, Sorry you learned the hard way. I wouldn't put Valero crap in my lawn mower. Rather than dealing with the local jerk, recommend you call their corporate hq. I had a similiar issue one time and the fella told me to suit him, so I did. Ended up costing them several thousand more than if they would had just paid for the initial damages. In the end, it didn't cost me a dime. A very, very pleasurable experience.

Left the house with the better half with all intentions to head for the local Yamaha Dealer to buy a brand new Venture. But, got side tracked and stopped by the local Toyota dealer. Came home with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma double cab all dressed out. Oh well, that'll teach me. Maybe next time.

Plugs or Carbs?

Mike, I, too, installed that needle shim mod and all it did was make my bike (86 VR) run extremely crappy. Went back to OEM settings within a couple days, and immediately it was corrected. These bike are notorious for running lean to begin and has been exasperated further by the crappy ethanol added to fuel blends. Move the needles further inward and all you're doing is leaning it up even more. Food for thought. One thing that convinced me the needle shim mod was wrong was just after installing it and taking it out and it running at 10 of 10 on the crappy meter, I taped up the intake opening on the airbox with some duct tape and took it out again. Ran great. Undo the shim mod and report back please. -
muffler slip on issue
MasterGuns replied to Indyventure's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My BIL has an 83 that had the same problem back in 2008. I figured that the mufflers hadn't been removed for a very, very long time and when he tried removing them, one (the lh muffler) simply wouldnt come free of the collecter pipe. It appeared to be rusted solid. We finally got it moving by twisting the muffler rather than applying rearward force. I used one of those strap wrenches and got it moving ccw, turned the strap wrench around and rotated the muffler a little cw. Keep that up while spraying WD40 on the connection and after several back and forth twists, starting applying rearward force and finally we were making progress with it coming free. The more we were able to twist the muffler and work WD40 into the connection, the easier it became. Eventually the muffler was free. Good luck. -
I too work in sort of a customer service, but specialize in hazardous materials and/or dangerous goods. I had to tell a gent yesterday that his shipment wasn't acceptable to Yantian, China because their port authority prohibits discharge of flammable liquids with a flash point below +23C. He was arguing that his stuff had a flash point of -25C. Oh well.

I'd remove the entire collector and have it welded; the only lasting way to repair the thing. -

Sounds to me like you have a bad unit. Perhaps someone here can loan you a known good one and if it works, whoala. Problem solved. BTW, there is a couple on ebay right now. Not cheap but available. -
Well that is exactly what I did on Apr 21, 1969 and I am still here. The bike was a total loss after it impacted the car that pulled out in front of me. I left the scene on foot and with some road rash. Had I remained aboard, no telling what injuries I would had sustained. You cannot say what one should do in every case. I was just lucky

Everyone is assuming that when laying down a bike one stays with it. The one time I layed it down, I let it go it's own way and me mine. My body stopped on the pavement before the car that turned left in front of me and my bike impacted him. I walked away with some road rash but the bike was pretty much totalled.
-
If I know I can't avoid an impact, the first thing I am going to do is take a quick look to my rear and if nobody is close behind me, I'm laying it down. It aint speed that hurts it's the sudden stop. And the last thing I would think about trying to perform is somekind of acrobatic maneuver standing on the seat and trying to leap over the car just before the bike impacts it. I'll take my chances sliding on the pavement. IMO, there is no good answer but one must be prepared for this eventuality and wear all your gear and then some.

Darn, I just had the motor out but I'll take a set anyway.

My barber rides a two year old rocket. Soaked and wet he weighs around 160 lbsand he is 64 years old, too He does burnouts, donuts, and can manuever it pretty darn impressively. No doubt in my military mind that it will run rings around Ventures, 1G or 2G. At least in a 1/4 mile or top end. Talk about torque that 2300cc makes. One BA bike.

Is there anyone that possibly has an 86-89 serviceable TCI they are willing to sell or ???? I have an extra but am not too confident it is good. I suppose I could swap them out to find out if the extra TCI I have is operational, but......that involves extra time, something I don't have a lot of these days. The TCI on my 86 works 100% but since I plan on keeping this bike forever, I would like to have another on-hand. This is my sweetheart, is absolutely flawless and beautiful so I really don't mind spending on her.

The last time anything other than my center stand or my feet touched the pavement, it was my handlebars, windshield, faring, bags, etc. You get my drift. Been really focused ever since.

Major Plastic Work
MasterGuns replied to elmicko's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Taking into consideration the time involved with something like what you're needing to do, in my opinion, it may be cheaper and far less time consuming just to find replacement pieces and repaint them. Repainting is something you will have to do regardless. Just my 2 cents. -

Make sure the boots and the surface of the carbs where these boots fit over are as dry as you can get them. If any oil or other lub is present, it will cause them to loosen up fairly quickly. Also, the clamps seem to stretch over time and may need replaced.

I agree with Hipshot as my 86 will barely run with the airbox off. I'd at least find out how it runs after installing the airbox. The let us all know the results. I'd also recommend a good sync too. The repost.
