  1. I just talked to my insurance agent (Allstate) and she told me that the bike wouldn't be covered when we tow a trail. Has anyone else had this issue?
  2. Ok now I ran across this and wondered a few things, like how can you put the icc sticker on the door, how long your trans will last. . . . [ame=http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1704445/motorcycle_tow_vehicle/]www.metacafe.com/watch/1704445/motorcycle_tow_vehicle/[/ame]
  3. After over 4000 miles we have arrived safe and sound and a little poorer in the cash department! All in all it was a great trip with some interesting side lines to keep my on my toes. Blew the rear tire on the first leg down...60 miles out of Bismarck ND. No fall over for me this year but I dang near had a heart attack after seeing the tow bill! Then the dealer was good enough to get me on my way the next day. Good thing I was there as the poor tech was about to disassemble my rear end to get my tire off! For that and new brake shoes and oil change it came to over 400 bucks.....plus over 400 for the snow I mean tow job. Ah well....no-one got hurt right! After Cody we headed for Idaho to see some friends. Then off to Oregon, Washington and back this way through Idaho, Montana and North Dakota. First trip in years that we didnt get any rain! On a more somber note we did get to see the end result of a biker crashing into some sort of wild critter. Sadly we had to drive by his covered body. Our thoughts to his family. It was great to see everyone again and you all take care.
  4. Two questions. Has anyone loaded an RSV into the bed of a F150 (04 thru 08) with the tailgate down using a ramp ? Did the tailgate take the weight of the bike and the rider without bending if so? Is there any reason you could not tow an RSV backwards in one of those one wheel Receiver hitch things with the rear wheel off the ground?
  5. I have installed a Tow Pak trike kit on my "99" RSV and have momentary steering "shakes", usually when not missing a bump in the road, and am wondering if one of those rake kits would help reduce this. I have read that Harrigan makes a kit for their conversions but don't know if they would work with a Tow Pak. Does anyone know of any other suppliers of rake kits if the Harrigan kit doesn't work? Does any one have any good or bad experiences with rake kits?
  6. So there I as, driving to work on a beautiful SoCal afternoon. I came up on a 90 degree left handed sweeper, no traffic, clear road, about 25mph. I eased into the turn, acheiving full lean with throttle roll-on, when to my surprise, my back end completely washed out. I found my self on the pavement watching my '09 RSV continue in a straight line, on it's left side. When it hit the edge of the roadway, it high-sided and smashed down hard on the right side. Tow truck to the dealer, call to insurance and several beers late, here I am. By the grace of God I am uninjured, but the bike may be a total. New fairings, bags and rub rails, new windshield, new engine guards, new floorboards, that's just the start of what I see needed. And I am NO mechanic. .
  7. On our way down to George and Bobbie's friday traveling down 95 Riderduke got a flat. We were at mile post 36 literally right at the marker. So he calls his insurance co progressive to get a tow truck Jeff called to find a dealer close by and find out what time they closed. Tow truck says it'll be there at 5:45 dealer closes at 5:30. Jeff and I rode to the dealer which was off exit 22 and about 1 1/2 miles down the street. Figured we could get the tire and worse case we'd already called Steve and he said he could get a trailer to get the bike. So We get to the dealer buy the tire and call David tow truck is suppose to be there shortly. Jeff leaves me at the dealer and heads back to help get the bike on the flat bed. This was 5 the tow truck didn't get there when they said and the bike finally got to the dealer about 7. By that time I was locked up inside the dealership still waiting. The guys were great and the mechanic got the tire changed and we were on our way. Oh and for future reference if ya break down here in NC don't let them call Brownies tow truck service. Since we hear so many terrible things about dealers thought it would be nice to let you know about a good one. We always have had great dealings with our local shop, nice to know we have two good dealers in the state. Margaret
  8. Yep, no aussie Annie all weekend. It's a long weekend here, and when Quickstep gets home from work we are hitching up the camper trailer and heading to a Ulysses Club Odyssey [mini rally] further up the coast. I get to tow the "Taj - Ma - Collins" for the first time with the Quike. So you all behave in here and I'll report in on Monday
  9. While speaking with a lifetime Harley Rider he told me the best thing about owning a Harley... You get to meet a lot of great tow truck drivers! (true story...of course i met him at work as he was on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck...)
  10. Anyone remember what the part number is for the tow only shift arm for a 2nd Gen??? I know I read on the board some place where Yamaha makes one..... I'd do a search, but I don't even know what they are called....
  11. can someone please tell me where to get the wiring to tow a trailor? I would like to hook one up.
  12. Wouldn't believe it if there weren't pictures...
  13. http://blogs.carpoint.ca/2009/08/texting-tow-truck-twit-splashes-down-in-pool.html Typically, a tow truck is called in to cart off the vehicular casualties of an accident. Alas, such was not the case recently when a Lockport, N.Y. area tow truck driver needed to get his rig towed – out of a private swimming pool. Worse, it was the tow truck’s mindless behaviour that caused the accident. Authorities identified the driver of the tow truck as Nicolas Sparks, an employee of Adams Towing. According to reports, the tow truck was traveling down Tonawanda Creek Road when it struck a car at an intersection in Lockport near a residential area. Sparks rear-ended the back of a car, causing the vehicle to swerve out of control. The car slid into a nearby trench prior to crashing through a resident’s backyard fence. Meanwhile, the car and motorcycle that Sparks was towing on the back of his truck flew off, obliterating a residential air conditioning unit and the gas lines of a house. But Sparks wasn’t quite done yet. After damaging the structural integrity of a house and smashing through a backyard fence, the tow truck finally came to a soggy stop after it plunged into a backyard swimming pool. Luckily, nobody was taking a dip at the time. Hey, accidents happen. But in addition to dangerously tailgating the vehicle in front of him, police confirm that just prior to the mishap Sparks had been talking on his cell phone and text-messaging simultaneously. (The phone has been confiscated by police to investigate the call history.) It would all make for a comedy of errors except for the fact that the woman driving the car had to be transported to Erie County Medical Center via trauma helicopter for serious injuries. Her passenger, an eight-year-old girl, was taken to Women and Children’s Hospital for her injuries. The car was a write-off. As for Mr. Sparks – the newest poster boy for distracted driving insanity – he’s been charged with reckless endangerment and tailgating.
  14. I am leaving Sat. Aug 1 for my ride thru the New England States. Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share a contact name/number if you live in these states in the event I need to call and ask for advice. I'm referring to if I break down or some other emergency. I have Allstate roadplan so the tow is not a problem. Just trying to prepare in the event I cannot access the internet and I need to ask for advice on shop locations ETC. Please feel free to PM me if you'd rather not post here. Name, number and state would be appreciated. Thanks all
  15. Saw a 2005 silver RSV heading north on I-95 in Jacksonville about 8 AM......ON A TRAILER!!!!! :yikes:...Looks like the tow vehicle was a maroon F-150. I think. Anyone from here willing to fess up??
  16. I just bought a new Matrix Rover trailer and I am looking at mounting a cooler (and possibly some spare gas) on the tow bar. Has anyone put one of these thermoelectric coolers on their trailer. I see a lot of trailers with coolers on the tow bar and I was wondering if one of these would be worth looking into. http://www.colemancanada.ca/Catalog/COOLERS.THERMOELECTRIC.en.products I know I would have to make some sort of rain protector for it. What have others done it?

  18. The muffinman came home today with this behind his bike. So I guess if you ask if you can tow a venture with a venture the answer is yes. At least most of it anyway. Margaret
  19. Does anybody know of a web page or a source of any kind where I can find a trailer I can tow on my RSTD. Thanks,
  20. I'm trying to get a non running 84VR from PA to GA. What I really would like to do is ride my 87 VR :7_6_3[1]:up there via Blue Ridge Pkwy/Skyline Drive towing a trailer that I can load 84 VR on and tow back via interstate. Is it possible to come up with some trailer configuration considering weight/load distribution to safely tow one VR with another one? Does anyone have any experience doing this, is it possible. Does anyone have any advice? __________________
