  1. Man, I had some stupidity rattling around my brain friday and saturday. I think I got it all out, but here's what I did. I wanted to adjust my brakelight to come on sooner when I hit the foot pedal. So- I looked in the pdf manual I bought and found what I thought was "brake light switch" adjustment. So I adjusted it much better. Then I left the acc switch on overnight and killed the battery. Noticed that one 2 hrs before I needed to pick up my daughter and got the charger going. No biggie- all fixed up and she started right up. Got about 4 miles down the hiway and I noticed it had no power. Then it hit me "oh shiyat I adjusted the rear brake too!" I had no tools- NEVER AGAIN! So I called my wife and she came to my rescue. BUT- there was a broken down Ultra classic a mile before me with a cop pulled up behind it. She assumed it was me and pulled in behind him. He turned and walked toward her and she says loudly "that's my husband!" LOL she said it was really embarrassing when a gal emerged from behind the cop car and gave her a look that could kill. Having recovered from the embarrasment and explaining to the cop and riders she wasn't really insane, she drove another mile and finally found me. Luckily I only cooked some pad life, but it was all good once I REadjusted it and let it cool off a half an hour alongsde the freeway. The same nice police officer stopped to see if we were ok, and we chatted bikes for awhile. He even waited with us to make sure we merged back off the shoulder ok. LOL I never accelerated away from a cop so fast legally. So all the drama completed, I picked up my 15yr old girl from her mom's for a nice country ride. We got a mile away and it started pouring rain. Since it was 92 out, that was kind of fun. It stopped, we dried out and later I pulled through an area of really really expensive houses that she likes to look at. I'm talking 4-5 million each. It pays to keep these teens motivated! Rode up a dead end street with no circle and stopped. Was gonna back into a driveway and pull away, but the Venture had other ideas, deciding it was now a good time to lie down and take a nap. Daughter did great, nimbly hopping right off and away once it was apparent the bike wanted a rest. Was impressed at the foresight Yamaha had in putting those wonderful shiny chrome bars that stopped it before it got really ugly. Anyway, emergency tipover-switch test completed, she helped me pick it up and we had a noneventful rest of the ride. My hip hates me today.
  2. So today some bimbo in a car drove in the exit only ramp at the bank while she was obliviously yappin' on her cell. Almost hit me on the motorcycle head on. I called her a moron & told her to get off her cell! She rolled down her window & gave me an attitude filled a non convincing "sor~ry". I replied "it's a damn exit not an entrance!", & started to go around her... well her reply?, "Well duh!" I stopped still, directly in front of her dropped my kickstand & told her to BACK OUT cuz I'm not moving! Would you believe she said "I'm calling the police." I said "back out or call the cops your choice" So...cops get there, our vehicles are face to face & she's facing the wrong way. Cop started writing her tickets(s) plural I counted at least 3. My guess is crossing a double yellow line, driving the wrong way, & dangerous action. Cop told me to go & be safe, I thanked him. I look at the bimbo on my way out, smiled & said... "Y'all have a nice day!"
  3. I'm trying to find the thread from a few weeks ago of that cop riding the timed course. Anyone got that link
  4. Hi there everyone. My son and I were out for a ride and got pulled over and the cop informed me that i had no tail lights. Good thing is the cop let me go and told me to get them fixed. Ok i will get to the point. I have went over the hole wiring and cannot find a broken wire and also have found out that when I apply the front brake the brake light does not work but the rear does work. Any ideas on what is up. Does the cmu have something to do with the fact that i have all the lights on the bike but now running lights on the back of the bike.
  5. Does any body have a PDF of a 1984 Yamaha Venture Royale XVZ1200DL owners Manuel I could get a cop of please. Thanks

    CCW

This old story out of Texas . Seems a guy cruises thru a stop sign, or whatever, and gets pulled over by a local policeman. Guy hands the cop his driver's license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit. "Okay, Mr. Smith," the cop says, "I see your CCW permit. Are you carrying today?" "Yes, I am." "Well then, better tell me what you got." Smith says, "Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There's a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I've got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot." "Okay," the cop says. "Anything else?" "Yeah, back in the trunk, there's an AR15 and a shotgun. That's about it." "Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range...?" "Nope." "Well then, what are you afraid of...?" "Not a dam thing..."

  9. Has anyone been to Shady Valley Tn to ride the snake, I heard it was 489 curves in 12 miles. Can anyone enlighten us on this ride before we make plans for May 2010.
  10. My poor baby got a ticket! Riding to work this morning Steve was in front of a big rig and behind a cop. The cop slowed down to 40 mph on the freeway then pulled Steve over. He wrote my baby a ticket for following too close. He will be fighting this one. I believe Steve's words were "You put my life in danger pinning me in front of that big truck just to write me a ticket!"
  11. It caused me to get a speeding ticket yesterday...first one in about 25 years! $196 ... OUCH!!! Glad the cop gave me a break otherwise it could have been almost $400 !
  12. I ask this because I got a ticket on my bike today. I was in light to moderate traffic, and was driving the traffic rather than watching the speedo. A motorcycle cop got me for 41 in a 25 mph zone. I truthfully thought it was 35, but that's not the issue. For the cop and the city of Myrtle Beach, it's all about the speed limit. They are determined to make it difficult for bikers in the city properby ticketing every possible infraction. I'm not upset with the cop mind you, he's just doing his job the way he's been told to do it. In fact he was almost apologetic about it and reminded me 3 times that if I will show up on the court date he could help me out. I've talked to other officers (friends) before in other situations and they have pretty much all said the same thing: In the car, they're more inclined to do the speed limit and watch the speedo more often; when on the bike, in heavier traffic, they do what I was doing....tend to drive the traffic rather than the speedometer. And there is the rub! Darned if you do and darned if you don't. Around here, moreso than other places, for many reasons, if you rigidly stick to the speed limits, you're gonna make people mad and/or get run over or into or off the road! I was over the posted limit, yes, but I feel I was safer doing it. That's not to say I disregard the speed limits altogether, I'm just more concerned with the traffic, when on the bike. So, what is your opinion or practice? Speed limit or traffic? What do you use as your guide?
