  1. I just had to start a new check register. Its funny thats its still called a check register because between Nov 2009 and Dec 2010 I wrote 12 checks in 13 months. So, thats less than 1 a month. Most of the checks were for taxes of one form or another. But the local tax office now takes debit cards, so I suppose most of the checks I did write were really unnecessary. I fact, it appears that a check I wrote to The Ponderosa in Cody WY, which doesn't take cards and the 2 checks to buy my 2000MM RSV in April were the only checks I wrote that couldn't have been done electronically. The number of check registers I get when buying a box of checks doesn't last and I go to the bank once a year or so to get a new register, and cant remember the last time I actually bought my checks. Maybe 5 years ago when the bank changed ownership and its name and account numbers?
  2. I was eyeballing the bike listings on Craigslist here in Omaha tonight and saw a post from yesterday for an '84 Venture Royale. Had a few pics and it was a match to my Blonde. Looked to be in pretty good shape. He stated it ran great but had a few minor issues. There was no asking price......just make a offer. Dang. Wrote him an e-mail to set up a meeting. Got an answer about a hour later that it was sold. Well I'm not surprised. It did look pretty good. So I wrote him back and thanked him for the reply and sent him a pic of my '84 and wished I could have seen his. Got a reply to that in another half hour. He says "I still have this one." (see pic) So it seems again that nobody can have just one Venture! LOL! We been exchanging e-mails all evening and are going to get together for a ride in the next week or so. I invited him to check out the site so maybe will drop in and check us out.
  3. Hi guys, I wrote several "how-to" articles for our Royal Star Venture and you can find them on my website, http://www.RideBellChain.com - look at articles on the right side. I wrote a Stebel Horn installation, LED marker lights install, adding a Goldwing Vent to my windshield and a few more. I hope I won't get in trouble for leading you all to my site, but it's too hard to post all the pics, etc. to the forums I go to. I hope you enjoy! I wrote that last check, and I have never felt so good in my entire life!!! ( Yes, the house is paid for too, whatever its still worth, I'm afraid to check on that ) Three Cheers for " Rick Santellie " !!!

  6. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I READ A POST ON HOW TO REFIT THE RAILS ON THE 2ND GEN. I WAS A LITTLE ANXIOUS ABOUT DRILLING SO CLOSE TO THE FENDER. BUT TODAY I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A GO. SORRY I DONT HAVE ANY PICS BEING THAT IM COMPUTER ILLITERATE.. BUT MY HATS OFF TO WHO EVER WROTE THAT POST.. THEY LOOK GREAT NOW..IN FACT IT WAS EASY.TOOK ME ABOUT AN HOUR..TOOK LONGER TO REMOVE THE BAGS THAN TO DO THE FIX. GLAD I FOUND YOU GUYS AND GALS.. BE SAFE..
  7. This summer I replaced the tires on the '06 Venture, deciding to use the same Dunlop D-404's that came on it. I ordered front and rear from SW Moto Tire and I ordered the same sizes that came on the bike (150/90-HB-15 rear and 150/80-HB-16 front). The new rear tire is not the same size as the one that came on the bike...although all markings indicate they should be. Once installed, the new rear tire has about .5" more clearance between tire and swing arm...and the guy who mounted the rear tire commented on the difference in sizes. Yes, the wheel is properly mounted and aligned. I wrote to SW Moto Tire describing the situation and asking why two tires supposed to be identical were not. Blaine responded, "Sorry I do not know the answer to that question." This was not particularly helpful and Blaine apparently was not particularly curious to learn more about his business. I wrote to Dunlop with the same description and question. After a long time, A. Wittmeyer wrote, "Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We apologize for the delay in response time. We have been attending various motorcycle rallies around the country and have gotten a little behind in e-mails. It is very difficult to compare the dimensions of a new tire versus a used tire. A used tire will change dimensions due to growth and load. In all likelihood, the tires were very similar in dimension when both were new." This response I found to be amazing. The Venture is the 37th motorcycle I've owned over 40 years of riding. The bikes have been all types and sizes, but they have all had one thing in common...they have all had tires on them. So, I have seen a few tires in my days and not a single one of them has demonstrated any capacity whatever to grow. Nor do I recall ever reading a technical article discussing the growth of tires. My question to this august group is, have any of you experienced this tire growth phenomenon? My tendency here is to call BS on Dunlop and chide SW Moto Tire for a lack of professionalism. Have I missed something and are my expectations for vendors and manufacturers out of line? Thanks, JPH
