  1. Any chance you recently changed to synthetic oil? If so, change back and you'll most likely be fine.
  2. but he won't be ridin for a while. He will also become well acquainted with Kathy, and hate her much. Brad, just tryin to make him laugh (if that is at all possible for the next couple days). Let us all know when we can call or send something to occupy his time at home.
  3. Gear indicators are for novice riders.
  4. ha ha ha ha! you funny!
  5. Hate to inform all you Harley bashers, but that isn't a Harley power plant. Can't really tell but it "is" a rice burner. And, I remember this photo from many years back.
  6. Do you really expect a yamaha site to link to a Harley site? You're kiddin right? Anyway, try this one: www.hdtalking.com I think you'll find it a great site for all sorts of information. Ask me how I know.
  7. This lst Edition reminded me of one of those jeepnese I rode around in when I was in the Philippines.
  8. Hey Don, That leaves you with about 34 days to get some ridin in. The doc will tell you to stay off your scooter for about 6 months so better enjoy now. Start doing those Kegels now my friend and you'll be glad you did. Call me anytime. Herb
  9. Would look better if it weren't so close to the stop light. Recommend mounting it to the trunk.
  10. I, too, own one of each, an 86 VR and an 01 Ultra and I ride them both frequently. Can't add much to the above comparisons. Will admit the 86 is much faster speed wise but the HD's torgue is far superior; just turn the throttle in any gear off you go; no need for downshifting. I also love the fuel injection comparied to the carbs on the VR. The 86 is much better handling through the twisties but the Ultra isn't far behind. I have dragged the floorboards often on the Ultra, haven't had anything on the VR drag the payment on the VR. The audio system on the Harley is far superior not only when compared to our antigues lst Editions but also the 2d Editions. Not only is the sound better when coming through the speakers but in the headsets as well and rightfully so (8 watts compared to 40). Both are smooth and I can tell which one is smoother at any speed but at idle, the HD might rattle your filings loose. Mine may be rougher at idle due to special cams I installed about 8 months ago. I have tried all sorts of exhaust systems on the VR, from drilled out stock mufflers, to Cobra, Jardine, etc and if you are trying to get your four banger to sound like a Harley, save your money and time, just impossibe. I really love both my bikes, the 86 Yamaha and the 01 Ultra and would never mock either one. They are both great bikes. I will never let go of my 86 but am trying to work deal with the dealer and trying to convince my lovely wife that I truly deserve a 2011 CVO Sreamin Eagle Ultra Classic; only $40K but............
  11. I bought a new one from Yamaha but that is the easy part. The hard part is getting it back on. So what I did was super glued the hose at the air box side. To assist with getting the hose properly routed in between the two rear carbs was I tied a strong piece of string to the bottom end of the hose, place the string through the carbs and with one hand pulling on the string while I am setting the airbox in place with the other it was surprisingly easy. The string pulls the hose right through the carbs. I then carefully reach in there with a sharp knife and cut the string from the bottom end of the hose and hook it up. Easy for me. Also in my opinion, if you were to use the air filter thingy rather than reinstalling the hose setup, you lose the vacuum effects that creates positive crankcase ventilation; a good thing for these motors when they were new and especially good for them now that they are pretty aged. Just my 2 cents.
  12. Any headset is going to sound cheap when hooked up to a cheap, low watt output stereo system. Improve the sound system and you'll improve the sound coming in through the headset.
  13. I sometimes drive a fairly large motorhome and pull my land dingy behind and only have a regular license. Texas doesn't require a CDL and never heard of a non-CDL DL here in Texas nor anywhere else.
  14. Stafford, Texas (near Houston). If we have any members down that way that are familiar with that area, and wouldn't mind me callin ya, please speak up. Thanks Herb (aka MasterGuns)
  15. I believe they are 7/8" by 6 in
  16. Hey, that's funny cause my boss dresses up like a girl. Note: I'm looking for a new job.
  17. I "searched the world over" and finally a member here offered them up for a really good price. But seriously, occasionally you will find a set on fleabay and can be pretty darn expensive. I will keep my eyes open for another set and if I find some, I will surely remember you need them. Good luck. These things are rarer than hens teeth.
  18. Dual downturned muffler extensions like these?
  19. :rotf:
  20. Anyone here a Marine that served one of those 13 month tours "in-country" and during the years 1967 through 1973? Or during the Tet offensive of 1968? And was assigned to 2/3 or 3/3 during January through April 1968? Just curious.
  21. When the Marines learn how to walk on water, Squids are outta work. It is the "Department of the Navy", too! Not really the best department, but a department never the less.
  22. My anthem; "From the Halls of Montezuma" and "if the Army and the Navy ever looked on Heaven's scenes; they would find the streets are guarded by United States Marined". HoooooooRaaaahhhhhh
  23. The subject line would give a fairly intelligent person what the discussion is going to include. Just pass it by and don't ask me what I really think.
  24. Are they 100 watt?
