  1. I don't understand all the haters out there that INSIST Its horribly dangerous to run a car tire on the rear wheel. I have over 30,000 miles on my BF Goodrich 155/80R15 (i have a 2005 Venture) and have had zero problems. I expect to get 40,000 miles out of my $85 tire. That's a savings of what, $600 ? I take turns just as fast as anybody, and the bike is just as stable. I felt a MUCH bigger change switching from the OEM Dunlop tire to a Metzler. Does that mean Metzler makes tires that are super scary unsafe? Of course not. If those who fear the Darkside like paying $160 every 8,000 miles for a new tire, more power to ya. But stop screaming I'm a fool, tanking my life in my hands, gonna kill myself any day now. Moms all over the world have been whining that tune to every motorcycle rider since the 50's. My zero wrecks, zero close calls, and $600 savings tell me I made the right call, and I'll do it again when I finally need a new rear tire in 10,000 miles.
  2. After 31,000 miles it is time to replace my Kumho tire. I have been well satisfied with her travelling to Texas, to Utah, crossing the pass near Breckenridge, Colorado at about 11,500 feet, riding the Highway to the Sun, in Glacier NP, Montana, and visiting Ohio for our MD at Don's. All those miles and the tire preformed flawlessly! Time to see for myself, now that I have personnel experience with a car tire, what difference going back to a motorcycle tire will do for my bike. I read an excellent article recently in one of the Bike magazines regarding why one should not turn to the darkside. I bow my head to their wisdom and knowledge. My decision to leave the darkside is not based on this article though. My experience, with the car tire, just does not track with what they are saying. Leaving the darkside, at least for the life of one motorcycle tire, is my way of figuring out what is best for my bike. I ordered an Avon Venom this morning.
  3. Anyone ever run a Dunlop 404 on the rear. I have a wheel and tire that I got from Pinwall that has a brand new 404 on it. I just wanted the extra rim for $100 bucks and was thinking about going to the darkside.
  4. if so, what kind of tire & what was/is your thoughts?
  5. How many Ventureriders are currently on the darkside a.k.a rear car tire? What front tire do you use? For informational purposes only. Not trying to start something. PLease do not reply if you are not running on a rear car tire a.k.a. the darkside. Thanks Joe
  6. How many Ventureriders actually tried and why they didn't like the darkside? What front tire do you use? For informational purposes only. Not trying to start something. Please do not reply unless you have actually tried a car tire but didn't like the darkside? Thanks Joe
  7. 2/3/2011 7 - Poll on current Darksiders 2 - Poll on people that tried but Didn't like darkside. Please... If you want to "participate" in these polls, go to the aforementioned links. However, Comments can be made here and are welcomed. I am just trying to get an idea of user satisfaction for running car tires. Will try to update daily for about a week or so that anyone that wants to can add their input. Thanks joe Disclaimer: I am in no way condoning the use of car tires on a motorcycle... Use your own judgement...
  8. Does anyone here on the Darkside live in PA? If so, how do you get your bikes inspected with the CT on? None of the locals dealers/shops (9 in total) will inspect it with a CT on. I live in south central PA, and would be willing to travel quite a distance to get someone who will inspect it. I'm just not willing to commit to coming over to the Darkside until I can find a shop that will pass it come inpsection time. Thanks, Don from Harrisburg, PA

  10. I finished installing the Nexen yesterday and although I haven't been able to ride the bike much since I finished, the miles I have ridden with it have been positive. Thanks to those who post on this forum for all the great info that I used in making my decision to go to the Darkside. My install experience was much like others posters have written about. I did take the opportunity to check the driveshaft splines and the drive unit while i had the bike apart. Although the bike only has 2000 miles on it I just feel better knowing all is well. You put the Carbon One lift adapter together with my craftsman jack and it makes working on the bike a dream.. David aka wngrr
  11. Well, it's official, I've crossed over to the DARKSIDE!! Um, that sounds ominous, doesn't it! Got the Kumho mounted today but destroyed my new air compressor in the process! Oh well, it is still under warranty. Haven't gotten use to the tire yet. Only put about 25 miles on it today. May have to adjust the air pressure a little bit. Started out with 45 psi. What's everyone else running? Ran it up to 85mph, a couple of times. No problems. Put in 2 oz of dynabeads and let me tell you, those things work! I know, I know, gota take it easy for a couple hundred miles! I guess it'll get broken in on the way to Crabshack this Sat.
  12. Going to order a Kuhmo 165/80-15 next week to begin the journey to the darkside. Going to give it a try. I think I've read that some people use a 155/80-15, if so, why? Glenn
  13. I,ve been on this sight for along while now and I do alot of surfing on this site... So here is the question .....The term darkside... whats it mean Ron:cool10:
  14. After removing the trunk I took my first good ride sunday on some good twisties! The C/T feels alot better than before. I didn't feel like I was drifting in the turns like before. I think the extra weight off of the bike made the tire more stable. I put over 5K miles on the tire with the trunk and couldn't get the feel but after one day without it I'm thinking of staying on the darkside with the star glide. http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/cc340/MARKANDBINA/starglide001.jpg
  15. all you darksiders the other darkside site http://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com is having a DARKSIDE RIDE-IN april 23,24.& 25, 2010 robbinsville, n.c. if you go to their site scroll down to topic page. you will find the info. i have asked for more info on the motel they will be staying at. don c.
  16. I ordered my Kumho today and was wondering does anyone on the Darkside have the smaller front tire on with the C/T? I love the way the smaller tire feels on the Venture and wondered if it will be trouble on the Darkside.
  17. Where's the best price for a Darkside tire in 165/80R15 shipped to 79108? Federal SS657 for $75.36 shipped Kuhmo 758 for $69.32 shipped Nexen SB802 for $65.43 shipped Can anyone find a better price?
  18. Anyone here "Darksided" their bike? "Darkside" = car tire on rear of bike. I have seen vids and done lots of research on this. Stronger sidewalls. Longer treadlife. I have talked to a few people on a Roadstar forum that I belong to about it. Lots of people say it cant be done or its to dangerous....I have seen underbike camera footage showing bikes cornering sharply and maintaining tread contact with the road and showing that radial tires actully "round out" a bit as you corner thus maintaining that contact patch. Found lots of vids about it on YouTube.
