  1. Just had the control module on the handle bars replaced for pretty much the same situation. Here are the symptums I had, when I would first crank the bike, everything was great and all would work just fine, but after I would start riding the buttons stopped working, if I would stop and turn off the bike then recrank after a minute or so everything worked again until I would start riding. Took the bike to the dealer and explained the issue, they looked it over and replaced the control unit under warranty, I had this done while I waited once they got the part yesterday and on the way home last night I tested the buttons at different speeds and it all worked. Mine started with just having this issue with both radio and CB going, but the past couple of weeks I have not turned the CB on and was still having the issue.
  2. Actually talking to the Owner of my local Yamaha dealership, the problem is not with sales, the issues come from the fact that it is very hard for the dealers in this market to get a person financed on what is considered a Luxury Item. He told me that they are extremely busy with the people that want to buy, but when they try to get the financing that is when the sales are falling through.
  3. Check out http://www.gpscity.com I got my new Garmin and mount from them and it was the best pricing and fastest shipping that I have used for these items.
  4. Hey Dave77459, not sure what side of Houston you are on but the dealer in Highlands (about 25 miles east of Houston) Tejas Motorsports ae a little better than most in the area, very knowledgeable and friendly group. They perform all of my service and I have never had an issue with them, some of their sales people are new and young and more geared towards the sprt bikes but I am getting them up to speed on the Venture when I can.
  5. try http://bikebandit.com I use them when I need to by new parts for the bikes that I pick up and repair
  6. I personally use the IMC headset for use with a half helmet, it is a stand alone product that wraps behind the head. You can look at and order here http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=IMC-HS-G45U
  7. I would like to invite each of you to my local dealers bike night, this is always a good time. Every couple of months they put on this event and it has gotten bigger and better each time. We are about 30 miles East of Houston Texas and the event will be held Feb.28 from 4-8 pm, I am posting the link to the information on their webpage. http://www.tejasmotorsports.com/event_detail.asp?event=348086
  8. you can also download a working copy of Avast from http://www.avast.com and install, then make sure you run the updates then perform the bootup scan this will also help...have used it a few times even at work during small outbreaks to get rid of infections....I can speak from experience as a network manager that Avast has detected things that even our more expensive purchased programs running all the time on the machines have not found..
  9. Here is the 30 miles east of Houston we were hit with 5+ inches of snow on the ground over the course of a couple of hours, I have been in this area for 31 years and have never seen snow down here that heavy.
  10. Greetings from Texas (30 Miles East of Houston), we were hit very hard, I am having to come to my office to get internet, A\C, water or pretty much anything that requires power since I have none at the house..lost power at 12:10am on Saturday and have not had it since, bad thing is I have a water well and without power I have no water....I did manage to get a generater that will power the well just need to wire it up, that will be a task for tomorrow....Just wanted to post that I for one am fine and the house and More importantly the RSV are fine....am even going to try to make a ride out Saturday to the Bikers and Boxcars rally in Rusk Texas...if anyone hears from others in Texas please post want to make sure they are all OK and if they are in the area and need anything I am willing to give any help that I can....my cell is 713-204-0673 and email (which comes to my cell) tail_gunner@comcast.net
  11. Had to replace the left on mine, really was not that bad of a job, i did not take any pics but it only took about 30 minutes to do....also found that on the new guard the metal tabs that mount it to the bike were much thicker than the original by almost an 1/8 inch.
  12. I will be there....can't miss one so close..rode to Tennessee for last years and had a good time til my cabin flooded.
  13. the only head set I have seen that does not require you to wear the liner in a half helmet has been the ones from IMC, I have been using these for a couple of years now without any issues, I would suggest using Sierra Electronics to purchase as they have been a little cheaper than even the manufacturer on the ones I have picked up, they also sell other brands too. http://www.sierra-mc.com/
  14. I rip all of mine at a variable bit rate setting that way you still get good quality but it does not take up as much space....I did all 400+ of my CDs, used 2 CD drives in my computer and still took a week or so, luckily I was on Christmas Break and had the time....averages around 100MB or less per CD.
  15. My local dealer is hosting a Bike Night on Saturday May31, 2008 from 6-8pm..I wanted to invite anyone here that lives in the Houston Area to come out and join in the fun. There will be food, a live band, prizes, and a bike show. The dealer is Tejasmotorsports in Highlands Texas, http://www.tejasmotorsports.com 347 S. Main Highlands Texas 77562.
  16. My dealer orders what they think they will sell each year of any of the bikes, I know they order 4-6 RSVs a year, they have one of the floor now and have already sold at least one '08 this year, they got the '08s about 2 months ago.
  17. will try this weekend...just seems strange that it works fine unless I am on a longer ride...
  18. I have a strange issue with my bike, the past 2 times I have gone out with my group on a longer ride after a period of time the buttons on the front of the radio will stop working, but if I am just going from home to work or around town the buttons continue to work without any issues, when they stop working sometimes after I get a little slower they will work or when we make a fuel stop when I crank back up they start working again without problems....no matter what the volume knob will always work just not the front buttons....Any suggestions?
  19. Have been using these for several years now...yes depending on how you wear them and how your helmet comes over them they can get uncomfortable, but what I have done it played with different positions over my ear to get better comfort out of them...I can also say that my original set from 3 years ago are still in use today...Just make sure for the RSV you buy the set with the Dynamic mic...I even wore mine all the way to Tennesee and back without any issues in the rain..
  20. I would love to make it but the Sponsor of my Star Chapter (Tejas Motorsports, Highlands Texas) is having a Ride for Life to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis, the owners daughter has been diagnosed, and we will be there to help and lead a ride, after this event they are also having a Bike night, the CF rally starts at 1pm and the bands starts up at 4 if anyone would like to come please do, all are welcome, there will be a donation requested for the ride to raise money. I hate to miss this they have not come often to the Houston area since I have been a member.
  21. ok I have a question, I have been told if I go to the K&Ns on my bike I will have to rejet is this true, I have a set of drilled RK pipes and wonder if I could go to those and the K&Ns without rejetting?
  22. this is a simple spyware issue that usually can be resolved by making sure that your antivirus and spyware programs are updated then booting the computer into SAFEMODE and running the scans from there, many of the programs cannot be removed if they are currently running, the other option that you can try is doing a system restore back to a date before this all started, will not loose any data or settings that way just gets the main windows files back to normal. Let me know if you have any questions on this I do this type of clean-up all day long.
  23. Car Washes are never a good idea, the high pressure used can defeat the seals and push water into places that water should not get into, a low pressure flooding type of wash is the best way to go....I have found the best thing for me in the Mr. Clean Autodry car wash, works great, and once done leave it in the sun for about 15-30 minutes and only need to dry up a little water that collects in stiching in the seat.
  24. Mike I found all the information on how to use mine in the owners manual, I had issues figuring out how to do the presets.....I think you can download a copy of the manual either here or Yamaha....hopefully that will help...
  25. attached mine to the brake line at the base of the triple tree, where is splits to the 2 front brakes...used a wire tie on it....they say as low as you can go, i wanted mine forward...the main thing is that it rings to ward off the evil road spirits....
