  1. I have Sirius...I mounted the antenna to the top of the dash under the windshield and only see signal loss in heavy trees and under bridges, other than that it works great....I wired into a splitter under the fairing, and added power outlet inside fairing for power....I would suggest that your antenna might be bad or depending on how it was ran in your old vehicle that maybe the cable was crushed causing the issue, I would start there with it. As far as I know the FM Direct just is for getting the sound to your current radio not for the signal from the satellites.
  2. I ran mine through the Fairing then back under the windshield...I used double stick tape used for emblems to tape it to the top of the dash just under the windshield, so far it is a clean install and has had no issues with signal strength being behind the windshield. I do not have any Pics but could try to get some if you need them.
  3. I used Creative Zen Jukbox before going to Sat Radio...used the 30 GB for 2 years on my 650 and for a couple of months on the Venture...had also upgraded to a 120GB Hard Drive in it...every now and then it would reboot due to vibration or bumps but not that often...there are new models out through Creative that are digital and do not use the mechanical Laptop HardDrive also...plus they are much cheaper on average than Ipod.
  4. Talking to the local Yamaha Rep that deals with my area he said that the V-Max was under testing and that they found something that they did not like so instead of releasing then having to do a recall they delayed it for a year.. What he told me is that any new bike Yamaha/Star puts out goes through about 36 months worth of testing before going out to the public.
  5. I have the IMC helmet less headsets that I use with my half helmet.... Good prices and very helpful... They sell several brands including J&M and the IMC stuff is cheaper than ordering from the manufacturer. http://sierra-mc.com
  6. I personally have the lift and have had no issue out of it, I rebuild bikes and have had 2 goldwings on it, that actually weigh a bit more than my RSV and stability has never been an issue...I have left the bikes in the air for weeks at a time with no problems....I at this time have a Virago 1000 on it...the only thing that I am going to add to mine is an automatic Chock that I bought from Harbor Freight also....I have had the lift for over a year now with trouble free usage...when I find more room I will be purchasing a second one so that while one is used by a bike that I have torn down I can have the other for when I do oil changes and things like this for friends of mine
  7. Here in the Houston Area we broke a record for Saturday, been strange weather.....this morning getting ready for work was strange anything North West of Downtown was in the 50s and anything South East was in the 70s and that was at 7:00am....decided to ride and now it is raining...looks like a fun filled ride home later.
  8. I never take offense when I read negatives about Star everyone has their own opinion and that was all I did when I posted, I have had bad experiences on the 2 venture forums also but I am still here, as far as the Star Touring website, I hardly ever go to that site, I go to the one for my chapter and periodically visit the international site but not often, I really am in the group because my Dad is and the chapter I am with is really a good one and we like to ride, but even if my chapter were to fall apart and no longer exist I would stay with Star and just remove the patches from my vest, still like some of the other perks from it.
  9. I for one love Star Touring, as far as the vest, I have 2 one for official Star Events and one that I wear otherwise, I enjoy the family atmosphere and the guidelines for the rides, I am biased to the group a little due to the fact that I have a really good chapter that all get along and enjoy getting together and having fun...I also enjoy the discount at the dealership, plus the roadside assistance which covers the bike and or the trailer that the bike is on if something happens on the rode, you also have to remember that unless you want to be in a chapter you do not have to wear any of the patches.
  10. I also talked to a Yamaha Rep for my area while working the Star booth at the International Motorcycle show in Houston and he said that there are things to come...he even said that he does not even get information about the new year models until the week before they are released to the public and that every bike and/or change to the bikes go through at least 36 months of testing before being brought to the public, this is why there is not a V-Max for '08, while testing they found something and instead of putting it out there and then recalling to fix they pushed the release so that when released it will be a great product with limited issues.
  11. I have about 2000 miles on mine and both me and the wife are larger people, the first time or so was fun at slow speeds, but after riding for a little bit I am getting the hang of it, have not changed the tires nor put on the leveling links, I keep about 40-50 PSI in the rear shock and a little in the front ( below 7PSI) and at slow speeds since the practice on it I just about have it down, 1up I have no problems, 2 up a little shakey out of the driveway but after that I have no issues, all I can suggest is to get it out and ride as much as you can, you will be scrapping the floorboards soon.... I too have very little riding only about 20000 miles and I went from a V-Star 650 to the venture.
  12. My username is Firewalker which was given to me when I was 15 or 16 as a volunteer Firefighter and would walk through walls of fire to save a person in a burning building, when I emerged an old fireman on the truck gave me the name and it has stuck, I also go by General Lee in my Star group which was given to me for my Civil War reenacting days.
  13. Just added a Sirius Sat to mine, bought the Starmate 4 made my own bracket that attaches using part of the original suction cup mount, I added a Cig plug under the fairing and plugged it in there and then put in a stereo splitter for the AUX plug and used that, I have found that the FM transmitter in it can interfere with the CB on some bikes, I know it did when I used one on my trip to TN over the summer.....I ran the antenna up under the fairing and taped it to the dash under the windshield (so far no ill effects and signal stays good).
  14. There is a complete radio system for a 2000 on ebay right now auction number 300168198486.....buy it now price of 369.00
  15. Crosby Texas Here....about 30 Miles east of Downtown Houston...dont really have hills but some great backroads to ride, several State Parks close by, we have the beach down in Galveston the San Jacinto Monument and battlefield, the USS Texas WWI Battleship which is still afloat and open for tours.
  16. Will be there Friday, Saturday, working the Yamaha booth at IMS show Sunday for a couple of hours then probably back to Galveston ( Sunday gets the best deals of T-Shirts and some items at other places that don't want to load it back up). I will be headed that way on Friday morning around 8-9 and then 8:30 Saturday. I will most likely be in Star Chapter 354 Highlands Texas Colors. Mark 713-204-0673
  17. Thanks for all of the replies, I tested the Cruise Control method of hitting the ACC button right after hitting the SET and it worked great... I also have a quick RANT about the gas stuff, I have noticed that all of the gas stations around me are switching to gas pumps that will not allow you to softly pull the trigger and allowing for topping off which as we all know if important to bikes so that we do not splash gas all over the tank...this is really getting on my nerves, they keep talking about using less gas, and here we are riding bikes that use less but they make it so much more difficult to get gas for us that it kinda does not make sense RIGHT? ok off the RANT box now..
  18. another way is a little heat and use strong fishing line or dental floss and slide behind it, I know several people that use this method for removing from cars, I am leaving my decals so I have never tested it but have seen the results, just have to use WD to finish off the glue......
  19. Man I really hate hearing of the trouble each of you always post about the dealers you go to, I guess I am very lucky in that I have a really good dealer that is quick and takes care, even washes it for me. Most people I know send people to them for service and away from other dealers, they are a fairly small shop and I think that is what keeps them good. I even know the owner of the place, he is at one of the two stores during the week, sometimes travels between then every couple of days.
  20. no Demo rides at the Rally but the International Motorcycle Show will also be the same weekend in Houston at the Reliant Center and there have always been DEMO rides at that event.
  21. about the coldest it normally gets is mid 20's but even at that I just bundle up a little more, saw very light snow a couple of years ago even but not even enough to worry about, main this is around here is when the Temp get that cold to slow on the bridges since they will ice up. But for me since I have lived here all my life mid 20's if very cold to us.
  22. Figured he was just joking just wanted it clear that this bike will be used as a touring bike, I love to ride and really like riding my 2nd Gen probably would love riding a 1st gen if I had one, I really dont care what I ride I just want to ride.
  23. I will be there most likely in my Star Chapter 354 colors.
  24. I am so glad that here is South East Texas I really do not have an end to my riding season, sometimes is very cold but usually does not stop me from riding.
  25. I am not sure what he meant by wanna-be I rode a road star over 2400 in a week, the last leg home was over 850 in one day. now that I have the venture I can go further, in the 2 years I have ridden most of which on a V-Star 650 I have almost 20000 behind me. Most of my rides are 200+. Also in reply to the member stating about the person selling the aluminum block spacer I looked at it in th Tech forum and I have that spacer, I bought the lamp setup used from a member here and that was included in the price, but the only way to get the fairing off it to loosen the mounting screws almost all the way out, then take one out and tilt the lamps, slide that side of the fairing on then tilt the other way and slide that side of the fairing on, still allot of hassle though. Thanks to the other replies, though.
