  1. Does Anyone in the San Antonio Area have a motorcycle tire changer ?
  2. Almost time to go. We are leaving North Carolina and heading West to Texas. Although we will miss our friends and our little place out here just off the IP for drop zone Sicily at Fort Bragg we are looking forward to getting into our new place outside of San Antonio. The folks in NC and the East here have been great. I have no doubt I will miss sitting on the front porch at the house here as the C-130's and the monstrous C-17's fly over our garage so low you can almost reach out and touch them, then watch as they head over the forest until the parachutes blossom in a strings behind them. Or when the Marines come to town and shake the area with the 155's day and night. Well, maybe we won't miss that. In the last couple of years I've found myself literally falling apart but thanks to modern medicine, I have been mostly put back together. But still I retain a few problems that seriously affect my ability to work on my bike. I had a problem with the bike that really needed fixing. So I waited till an old friend stopped by and we took the bike apart, fixed the problem but another problem cropped up I did not foresee and I had to order a part that didn't come in till after he left for home on the other side of the country. Now I have my bike in 500 pieces or so and waiting for help to come from Texas to put it back together. But. The turning wrenches problem has been resolved. In San Antonio we will be living but a few hundred feet from an old pal, family, rider, member and one time evil companion (we have both reformed from our earlier days on VR.org ... or at least I have), who has sworn to turn wrenches for me when needed, share his stash of ice cream and generally be available to go with when I wanna ride. And away we go ... well, in two weeks or so.
  3. Does anyone have any experience with Mastertech Motorsports in San Antonio, Tx? I ask because I need a carb sync and they offered to do the sync for $65. Seemed reasonable and the gentleman I spoke with seemed to know alot about the VR. Any and all comments are welcome.
  4. I want to have some patches sewn on our vests, but do not want to have the pockets sewn shut. Anyone know where I can find someone in the San Antonio area that might possess such skills?
  5. This for any of my friends who live in San Antonio, I need a head gasket and one of the San Antonio Yamaha dealerships has one, but they only ship UPS. And I need one ASAP and since tomorrow is Friday, it probably won't get here until the next week since they don't work on Saturday. However so I was wondering if I could get one of my friends in San Antonio to pick it up and stick it in a USPS Express Mail Flat Rate envelope and mail it to me. The gasket will already be paid for, so if I can get it in the mail before noon, I should have it by Saturday. And I'll pay you via PayPal, check, it's your preference. So do I have a volunteer? I'll need to contact you with final details in the morning. Call me tonight or in the morning if you can help me. Thanks, Rick Butler (aka Butt Butler) 972-442-9840 Home 214-926-3905 Cell 1304 Taos Lane Wylie, TX 75098
  6. We are leaving Friday...early...I need to replace the American flag on the bike (6" X 9")...anyone know where I can get one in San Antonio? Sure appreciate any help so I don't have to go out "naked".
  7. Did I meet your Brother in Flint Mi. today? Went into a local dive today to get some tacos to take home (best REAL Tacos in the area) and a guy came in while I was ordering. I was wearing my VentureRiders.org tee shirt. When we both got done ordering he came up to me and said he was just down in San Antonio visiting his brother and his Brother belongs to the VentureRiders.org and has a tee shirt just like mine. We talked for awhile about bikes and how Flint has went to h**l and how we both want to move south. When our orders came up and I was leaving I noticed he was wearing a tee shirt from a Harley dealer in San Antonio. He rides a 1200 Sportster. So was just wondering who his brother might be. And BEFORE you say it Squidy, I know he's not your Brother.
  8. Hi Guys! I'm headed out to San Antonio, TX this coming weekend for business. Unfortunately, I can't make it a ride this time, but I will be there a couple of days early during the Forth of July weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding things to see or do in the area? Good, clean fun type stuff. I hate to go someplace new, and miss out on opportunities to see cool sites, events, etc. I figure that for the Forth of July, there must be some special celebrations, fireworks, etc. going on. So far, The River Walk is in the plans, but I need some more ideas for Saturday & Sunday. Pete.
  9. I know we have a few (or many) members in Texas, but Texas is a big place. I may need some Venture Rider assistance in the San Antonio area. Just wanted to reach out and see who is there. It would involve meeting someone at the Bass Pro Shop near I-10W and Loop 1604 and then dropping a package in the mail to me. I may be able to get the owner to ship to me, and the deal may not happen, I'm just trying to be prepared. Thanks, James
  10. Well, I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that at age 52, I am finally considering my first road trip on a motorcycle. I’ve been riding various bikes since I was 17, but have never had the opportunity to really get out and go. About 150 miles on a Saturday with friends is the longest I’ve ever ridden. I’ve had my RSV now for two years and have put about 8K on the clock, but all here in the Houston area and nearby countryside. Well, every year for Thanksgiving we travel to my wife’s hometown of Odessa to visit her family. Today she told me that she wanted to go out a few days ahead of me to have some “alone” time with her parents. So I say “cool, I’ll ride out later on the bike then!” My wife is not real excited about my “new” love (the Venture) and wasn’t too thrilled, but I think she’ll come around. So now, if I’m going to do this, I’ve got to do it right. Don’t want to forget anything important or breakdown along the way due to failure to prepare properly. So, any suggestions from any of you “old hands” on how to properly prepare the bike, and myself, for this adventure? The distance is about 560 miles each way. It usually takes about nine and a half hours in the car and is mostly on I-10. That seems kind of boring, so any ideas for alternate routes will be considered. Should I try to do it in one day or is that likely to kill me on my first trip? I could stop one night at friends in the Canyon Lake area, just north of San Antonio. That would split it into 220 and 340 mile segments. As I’m thinking, that is probably the way to go. So, when I leave San Antonio, should I just rip it out the freeway or take a more scenic route. A big chunk of that road has an 80mph speed limit, so any deviation is definitely going to take longer. On the plus side, there are a lot more choices for places to stop and things to see off the freeway. What about safety? I guess there too there are pluses and minuses for each option. Thanks in advance for any and all ideas and suggestions.
  11. Planning a ride around hill country from San Antonio. Y'all would be most welcome. Link to the description in the M and E section. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=286517#post286517 JB
  12. Ant of you folks out there going to do the Texas Honor Ride on the 8th of November? It is police escorted from Houston to Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The day will be spent with the wounded warriors and their families.
  13. The Lackland AFB Services will have a ride on the 8th of November. It will go from San Antonio to the Motorcycle Museum and return. See attached flyer. By the way, that is my RSV (blue) in the foreground of the photo. Hope you can make it. http://lacklandservices.com/assets/loac/images/VDay-Ride.jpg
  14. Called and checked. DonH. (TxVenture) has a few tree limbs off and still has power. Said the internet was working. Cable out all except the shopping channels. DonC. is good. Has a small hole in the roof from a pine tree lim. Said about 3 gallons of water, nothing to really worry about. Kbay lost a couple flags and his ornamental windmill is over. He has relatives in from Galveston. Including some horses. Said the fire pager only had one call last night. Didn't get an answer from Mavrick, but he is outside the main area towards Dallas. Rattlesnake evacuated out of Refugio about Wednesday. Put his bikes in the fire station. Didn't try Hipshot. San Antonio has about 4000 refugees in so far. Houson got its backside kicked pretty good. Galveston may be fairly flat. San Antonio is sunny, breezy and about 75-80 this morning. JB
