  1. Last night when I left work the audio system on the bike decided to act up. When I started the bike nothing would come up in the display window of the control unit. The backlight came on and I could still hear the radio playing on the station I had listened to that morning, but none of the buttons, including the volume know would work. After riding several miles the display began to flicker in and out. When the display was on the buttons would work, but you had to press them at just the right time before the display went dead again. By the time I got home the display was back on steady and all seem fully functional. although I did not have anyone to tt on the CB. Has anyone elese experienced this? Should I go looking for loose connections, and if so where to start? Or, shoudl I just take it in to the dealer since it is still under warranty a little longer? Thanks for the advice!
  2. ...or am I just seeing things when I go to click on one of the "post reply" buttons!?
  3. 4 months and the home button stops working. Only 5 buttons on the stupid thing.. Think I'll stick with PC's and Androids...
  4. You do know, that when you fill in the state maps, Its for the states you have rode in on a Motorcycle, not were you've been in your life Right?????? and if um wrong, where the buttons for jamaca, Caymen Brac, Utila?
  5. Some of the buttons on my radio were getting little flaky. Also I was having trouble manually tuning the radio. I did some searching here and found that the buttons were pretty easy to get to. I ordered a bunch of buttons on line. They were only a few cents a piece. Taking the radio apart was a breeze and soldering in the new buttons was just as easy. Replacing all of the buttons took less than an hour. The problem was that the manual tuning and memory buttons still didn't work. I found that by tapping the handlebar mounted module, the manual tuning buttons on the radio would work. The radio scan button was gunked and worn out. I took the module apart and replaced the scan button as well as the CB tuning buttons. Nothing to it and now everything works like new!
  6. I have a working radio now but most of the buttons are gone. Maybe you have a broken radio with all of the buttons and I can make one good radio out of two.
  7. Q: Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left? A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since. Q: Why do ships and aircraft use 'mayday' as their call for help? A: This comes from the French word m'aidez -meaning 'help me' -- and is pronounced, approximately, 'mayday.' Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called 'love'? A: In France, where tennis became popular, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called 'l'oeuf,' which is French for 'egg.' When tennis was introduced in the US, Americans (mis)pronounced it 'love.' Q. Why do X's at the end of a letter signify kisses? A: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous. Q: Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called 'passing the buck'? A: In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility of dealing, he would 'pass the buck' to the next player. Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast? A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host's glass with his own. Q: Why are people in the public eye said to be 'in the limelight'? A: Invented in 1825, limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre,a performer 'in the limelight' was the centre of attention. Q: Why is someone who is feeling great 'on cloud nine'? A: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud. If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares. Q: In golf, where did the term 'Caddie' come from? A. When Mary Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl,Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots game 'golf.' So he had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced 'ca-day' and the Scots changed it into 'caddie. Q: Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs? A: Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of a dense orange clay called 'pygg'. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as 'pygg banks.' When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a container that resembled a pig. And it caught on. Q: Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches (milling), while pennies and nickels do not? A: The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren't notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.
  8. How do you set the buttons on the radio on a 1985 Venture royal to local stations? Mike Smegielski Waterbury, CT
  9. I just bought an '02 Venture with what looks like the pillow top seats and they are cracked on the seating surface between the buttons. Does anyone make a replacement cover for these? I really don't want to buy all new these seem to be comfortable.
  10. I see that Tapatalk offers a version for the Blackberry but the reviews are not that great so far. Is anybody here using it? My company made the decision that we were all moving to Blackberries and I received mine on Tuesday. Haven't played with it too much yet and it is really going to take some getting used to the small buttons but otherwise, it seems OK so far. It is a Bold 9650. May try Tapatalk but just wondered if anybody here is already using it.
  11. Started to do a search this morning and couldn't tell it to search venturerider. There are (used to be) buttons at the bottom of the search box that would direct the search to the web or venturerider. Sometimes I see spots that aren't there, but never no spots that should be there. Any ideas on how to get them back??

  16. 08 Venture, has about 650 miles. Can't get it to the shop until next Wednesday. Do I need to continue being aware of the "break in" period until the starter oil is out or should I not really be too concerned about it and ride like I normally would. Also, the radio buttons are becoming non-responsive, what do I do about that?
  17. I have an '06 RSV and it's recently devlepoped an interesting problem/glitch. Every once in a while the audio system stops responding to any of the buttons. The only thing it responds to is the volume control. If I push the up or down arrows, nothing happens, and the same holds true for the AUDIO, SELECT and CB buttons. If I hold the AUDIO button long enough, it shuts off then I can turn it back on. But that doesn't always fix it. I haven't been keeping tabs on when it happens, but I think it doesn't happen when I first start it cold in the morning. Anyone have any ideas????? Also, is there any "system reset" for the audio system??? Thank you in advance CG
  18. I am looking to get the radio remote control for an 86 VR, the one that sits on top of the left handle bar. Does anyone have a pic or can get one of what it looks like so I know what I am looking for? I have a guy that is offering one with just two buttons, mute/tuning, but I am unsure if this is the one I need. Please and Thank you for your help. ohedron42 Merlin
  19. I have a strange issue with my bike, the past 2 times I have gone out with my group on a longer ride after a period of time the buttons on the front of the radio will stop working, but if I am just going from home to work or around town the buttons continue to work without any issues, when they stop working sometimes after I get a little slower they will work or when we make a fuel stop when I crank back up they start working again without problems....no matter what the volume knob will always work just not the front buttons....Any suggestions?

    My Buttons stuck!

My buttons on my raido seem to get stuck now and then more and more often is there anything I can do short of getting a new radio? I can't change raido stations 90% of the time when I want too. Thanks in advance for any advise or help! Mark
  21. Well, it appears that either my amp or tuner has coughed its guts. It was working ok. Then, the tuner started throwing feedback noise and not picking up stations. Figured it was the antenna. Installed a new antenna and thought all was great. Then it did it again. Went from great radio to nothing but noise. When the radio and intercom are off I can hear a small bit of white noise from the speakers. Also, I do not hear the CB through the dash speakers when I turn the squelch off. I see RX on the CB screen. I think one unit or the other is getting warmed up then cutting out. I don't have headsets yet. So, don't know if the intercom is working. All buttons except AM/FM work. That one is stuck in FM. I cleaned the upper display by taking it apart and using a good contact cleaner. I have to Ohm out the buttons yet. So, any suggestions would be helpful. Pinwall Cycle has the amp and tuner off of a working bike for $45.00 each and shipping. Figure I have to split the LH fairing to get to the radio. JB
  22. Anyone succesfully repaired 1st Gen radio buttons and how did you go about doing it? I'm not missing any button covers but not all my buttons work.
  23. What does the trans. dept. of your city/state use for lane dividers on the roads in your area? Here in Houston they use what are called "buttons". They are circular approx. 3", about 1/2 to 1" high in the center and made out of a ceramic I think. They use them where an exit ramp seperates from the main part of the road to divide the lanes. When they are wet, they are just like greased rocks. The problem is at exit ramps they put them in groups of 8-10 about 1' apart and you can't get between them with a bike. Doesn't affect cars as they have 4 wheels but they scare the you know what out of me. I called and got someone who actually understands what I was saying about those things when they are wet and the effect they have on motorcycles. He said that he will check on them as they now have an epoxy paint they can use instead. I know that wet paint is just about as bad, but not quite as these things are raised and rounded. Just wondering. Don H.
  24. Hi guys, My 87 VR is missing the front mute button and the #2 radio station button. All those little rectangular buttons appear to be the same, including the tuner and front and rear remote units. Of course, the buttons are not available separately. Does anyone out there have a broken radio off one of these bikes, that you would be willing to part with so I could try to swap buttons? Thanks, Jeremy
