  1. Reading up on some of the Gen1 HID installs and they seem to have a computer issue with installing the HID. Any on the 2nd Gen?
  2. I tow a time out camper now, but my first trailer was home built Harbor Freight with a Sears car top carrier. I built a cooler rack and never had any issue with it. The total weight of the trailer (with cooler) was small enough that you could hardley tell it was back there.
  3. I elevated the tongue to the same height as my ball (with a piece of 2x4) and weighed this on a bathroom scale. Weighed each wheel individually and added it up. It is pretty accurate (at least as accurate as your scale which I unscientifically calibrated with some workout weights I have) and you will have the total weight.
  4. They are nice, but they work exactly like my infrared camera. You have to know what you are shooting at, you can get a lot of refracted heat on shiny metal. Don't they also have a focal distance, after which the temperature reading is an average that is spread out over a large area? Looking at the owners manual: Non-reflective surfaces will yield a more accurate reading than reflective surfaces. Duct tape (not included) can be applied to reflective surfaces in order to get a better measurement. Allow sufficient time for the tape to match the temperature of the surface it is applied to before trying to get a reading. The maximum range for the Infrared Thermometer is about 8 feet. The object being tested should be larger than the size calculated by the field of view diagram, below
  5. I've got one on order as well. Will let you know where I decide to put it after I get it installed.
  6. That's not really the DARK SIDE, but congrats.
  7. I think most ct's are more pliable and do have more flex and give, at least that has been by experience. MT's usually have much stiffer sidewalls. Probably did make it more exciting than it had to be. At least you kept it upright and came out ok.
  8. The stock seat on mine came off after the first 100 mile trip.
  9. Over the Top? I would say so. It is a bike (or car or truck). It will get dirty and scratched if you actually use it. Just drive it and enjoy it.
  10. on mine you remove the left rear cylinder cover, there is a rubber piece covering the nipple for the clutch hydraulic system, remove it and away you go.
  11. Did a bit of work on my bike this weekend. Installed the Diamond R leveling links. Have to say this was the easiest mod I have ever done. When I removed the old and compared them to the new, thought there must have been a mistake because there isn't much difference between the two. Until you drive it. Kinda crazy how a 1/4" difference makes the front end seem so much lighter. And now I can look over the windshield no problem. And I didn't even have to remove any thing to change them out. Did a carb sync and once again am amazed at how simple and quick it is to do. A shame that the dealer charges anything for this. This would be a procedure that they could do as a courtesy, not lose much on it and build a ton of good will. Did a clutch fluid change, the old was getting a bit dark, so chaned it out and got a bit more lever out of the clutch and not as big a thunk going into gear. Good times working on the bike. As soon as my HID headlight gets here I'll have something else to work on.
  12. My 10 year old mercury sticks still work great Synched mine up this weekend. It should almost be criminal that a dealer charges to do a sync. As easy as it is, they should do this as a courtesy.
  13. No problem. I just ordered one. It was $64 or so delivered in American $$. I payed through paypal and they did the currency conversion.
  14. Looked like $13 to Texas, but don't know if that is US $ or Canadien $.
  15. so this was a plug and play install or did you have to order something specific for the venture?
  16. Depending on how heavy the trailer is, I would go with about 30 lbs. That's what I had on my Harbor Freight trailer with a car top carrier bolted to it. Took it about 2000 miles and checked the tire (and bearing) temps the whole way and never had any issues.
  17. Bought my hitch from venturedad
  18. You might consider Greyhound. I had to ship a bumper to a guy, and UPS wouldn't do it, too big. Greyhound will ship from station to station pretty cheap. YMMV.
  19. or you could build two of them and not have to switch them to do the sync
  20. The only gotcha with gas instant heaters is the size of the existing gas line. Find the instant one you want and check to see how big a line it needs.
  21. My GE water heater went out 2 weeks ago. It was a 9 year old unit with a 12 year warranty. I called GE (the number on the water heater) and after about 30 minutes talking to 2 different people (both very nice and speaking english!) they told be to take it back to Home Depot to have it replaced under warranty using the seriel number as the return number. I called Home Depot and asked them if they really wanted me to bring it in and they said yes. I loaded it up and took it to Home Depot. The lady at the return line looked at me funny and asked if I had a receipt. Of course not. She called another guy over and they stood there looking. I told them want GE said and they called another lady over. She said hold on, and came back in about 5 minutes with a brand new 12 year warrantied water heat and said here ya go. I said thanks and high tailed it out of there. That was about my best experience ever with Home Depot and bought them some good will from me. Also saved about $500 on the water heater.
  22. I put an LED tailight on my 05 a long time ago. It is very bright, but can't remember where I bought it.
  23. I've been using the hockey puck method.
  24. I've got AVG free on all of my computers and wouldn't hesitate to remove Norton and install AVG. You need to go to Norton's website and get their removal tool though to completely remove it. AVG is a better product than Norton.
