  1. My '01 started leaking in 2010, replaced it with a YSS built by Klaus at www.wilbersusa.com it works great, and priced right.

    Tires

Shinko 230 tourmaster. Great traction and you can get them for under $100 from jakewilson.com with free shipping. I had one on my vmax, it got great traction even launching at the drag strip. I'm putting another one on my '01 VR this weekend. Dunlop has got to be the absolute worst tires ever made, worst traction, worst ride, wear out fast. You also can't go wrong with Metzlers - excellent grip and ride, they don't last a long time if you ride aggressively due to the soft compound, but I'd rather have great grip and change tires more often, than the opposite. Never ran Avon's but I hear their good, but expensive. Shinkos rule though - best bang for the buck by far.
  3. I got a YSS rear shock from : http://www.wilbersusa.com/yss-shock-absorbers.htm I love it, have had it on for over a year, ride quality is excellent, I think they sell for about $400. The guy will custom build it for you, and it's re-buildable. Check them out.
  4. I've got a set of vmax exhaust and Kerker slip ons I'll sell for $200 + shipping (guessing $40) pic attached. Went to a 4-1 on my max, don't need this set anymore.
  5. No, but it will make the 1st gen you stole the parts from slower.
  6. I have an '01 Venture. The whine/ chirp would drown out the loud pipes, and the stereo, and was almost painful to listen too. It would start at about 2800 rpm, and go away around 3500 rpm. I bought a clutch basket for a 1st gen (1983-1993?) Venture for $45 off Ebay and installed. The noise is almost completely gone now. It still comes in at the same rpms, but much, much quieter, and barely noticable now. A 1st gen Vmax (1985-2007) clutch basket will also fix the problem and are available for cheap on ebay all the time. If you have an air compressor and an impact wrench with a 30mm socket, the basket is easily swapped out in an hour or less and the special clutch holder tool isn't necessary. Download a service manual for a venture (any year) or a Vmax, and you'll have all the info you need to make sure you get it put back together correctly. Don't forget to buy a new gasket, as the original will rip apart when you pull the cover off. If you have any questions shoot me an email at remmerts@live.com. BTW, if you would like your bike to scream like friggin banshee, I now have a clutch basket for sale that will be music to your ears
  7. The V65s were prone to tranny problems (2nd gear), but all the magnas had really klunky transmissions. I had an 87 supermagna, and it was always like that. My brother had a couple V65s and they had trans problems. I'd try Castrol GTX 20W50, I've run it in everything from ATV's to Harleys (and Venture and Vmax) and it's always performed well, no slipping and shifts good.
  8. Does anyone know if a Vmax clutch basket will work? I have an 89 vmax, and it's silent, but my 01 RSV has such a loud chirpy whine, I can barely stand it (I have loud pipes on it, and I hear the whine over the pipes!).
  9. Tire size is 130/70/18. I measured the distance between the rotors on a bike at a dealership to make sure it would fit. The specs for the roadliner and the venture rotors is the same on starmotorcycles.com. I compared outer diameter for the tires on some other website I found and determined it would work. I just crossed my fingers that the axle was the same. If it wasn't, I was just going to get weel bearings that would work.
  10. I just put a Roadliner/Stratoliner 18" front wheel on my Venture. It looks awesome, and the low profile radial tire handles like a dream- rock solid and glued to the road. Handling response is much quicker. The rotors are also an upgrade, because they are full floaters. It is a perfect match, same size rotors and axle, bolted right up, din't have to change anything. I got the wheel tire and rotors off of ebay for $240 plus $50 shipping.
  11. I made one of these and it works perfectly. I used old motor oil for the liquid. Sync #1 to #2, then plug those and sync #3 to #4. Then hook up tool to #2 and #4 to sync left side to right side (make sure to plug ports on #1 and #3).
  12. Lowes or an auto parts store probably has some type of rubber plug that will cork it well enough to get you on the road until your part comes in from the dealer. Put a little permatex ultra blue on it, and cork it up. The fins will keep it in place. If it doesn't leak-it's fixed. Repair can probably be seen on an old MacGuyver episode using a booger and a piece of shoelace.
  13. Here's a pic of the YSS shock from epm performance. Why spend $500 bucks on a stock shock that can't be rebuilt and doesn't perform as well? This is right on par with Works and Ohlins, but for less $. Shock with resorvoir is available for $685, but not necessary.
  14. I just had a shock built by Klaus Heuencke at www.epmperformance.com for my 2nd gen RSV. Ride quality is excellent, and shock construction is excellent. It is a YSS brand, but is custom built by Klaus in New Jersey. The cost of the shock is $499, which is far less than anything else I could find (including stock). The shock is also about 2-3lbs lighter than the stock shock, and performance is far superior to stock. I'll post a pic of it tonight. You can email Klaus at info@epmperf.com . The shock is adjustable, specs are: Pre-Load Adjustment, Rebound Adjustment 60 Clicks — 50 mm 50 Micron Steel Bore and Radial Sinter Piston — 16 mm Hardened Shaft — Low Friction, Long Life Seal Block — Bearing, Bushes and Fork Fittings to suit each Model — Dampening and Springrates Model specific, and is rebuildable.
  15. I've had 2 Harleys, the first was a custom build softail, I got rid of it because it just didn't fit me right, but was a very nice bike. Then I got a 1200 Sporty. I hopped it up, put a fat tire on it. It would ride the nicest wheelies, I loved it. My wife said it sucked for any ride over 10 miles so it had to go. I bought a Victory Vegas, it kicked ass, but my wife said it sucked for a ride over 50 miles, so I sold it and got an '01 RSV, now everybody's happy. Still can't get a good wheelie with it though :-) but that's what the Vmax is for. Why are so many HDs for sale? Just like everyone is saying, it's because so many have been sold. I still like 'em (HD), but the RSV is a far superior machine for way less money.
