  2. Well I spoke to the dealer. They indicated that Yamaha has a bulletin out describing the "whine". According to the dealer Yamaha said that there isn't a cure for the whine. What they do is replace the basket with another one that moves the "whine" to a different RPM range. The service rep said that there were four baskets - 2 low RPM & 2 high RPM (5-6K range). I told the service rep that I wanted the "I" basket but he didn't know what I was referring to. Does anyone have a part number for the "I" basket? Does this information sound correct? Thanks, Nick P
  3. Thanks for the video. I just thought that was the way my RSTD was supposed to sound. I have contacted the dealer and they are going to contact Yamaha to get more information on this whine and the "I" basket. They also said that if Yamaha doesn't have a bulletin, I would have to bring the cycle in for assessment (which leads to them telling me that that is the way it sounds). I bought this '06 brand new in 06/09. What else do I need to tell them in order to get this basket replaced? Nick P
  4. I added the Custom Dynamics 100 LED today. It's amazing how bright it is. The running lights are brighter than the bulb while braking. Rails and grill should be arriving this week!
  5. Just wanted to give an update. I took my RSTD in for its 4K checkup and had the passing lamps installed along with the Electric Connection rear Turn-Brake-Run LED's. Boy does this MC look sweet. I am waiting for the saddlebag rails and Wagner Grill to be delivered. Once I install the rails & grill it will be time to upload some photos of the final product. A big THANK YOU to all that responded! Nick P
  6. I am looking for recommendations because the shops by me all carry the same products. As I said the one I have is heavy and because it is so large it feels huge on my head though it fits me well. I am thinking that one closer to the head would be more comfortable and not as heavy - like the carbon fiber model. Thanks for all the replies.
  7. I contacted Vega and the dimensions are 8.75x11.00. Almost the same as my Outlaw. Looks like an ACC for me.
  8. Would you happen to know the dimensions of the Vega XTS ear-to-ear & front-to-back? I know that the HCI is 8.5 X 10.5. The Outlaw that I have is 9.0 X 11.5. Pretty significant difference. Thanks! Nick P
  9. Hello all, I am looking for recommendations on a half helmet. Is there one that is narrow (to avoid the mushroom - darth helmet look) but is still DOT approved. I understand that there are carbon fiber helmets too. Are the fiber ones closer to the head? The photos online always show an auxiliary view and the vendors never provide dimensions. I have looked at the Vega XTS, HCI-100-134 and the ACC. Does anyone have a recommendation? I also understand that safety supersedes style, but I have a half helmet currently that is very heavy and is more of the mushroom style. Thanks in advance! Nick P
  10. Dave, Thanks for the rapid response! I knew I saw this somewhere and turns out it was right here under my nose How is your light project holding up? Have you had any other issues? I am not sure if I am confident in doing this myself. I was never a big fan of electrical wiring. But your detailed instructions give me hope that it can be done. Thanks again! Nick P
  11. Greetings All, I am looking for suggestions on increasing the tail lighting on my 2006 RSTD. Where I live there is limited light on the roads and I would like increase my safety percentage. I once located a lightbar that converted the turn signals to stay on all the time as red while flashing as the normal orange. If I recall, when the brakes were applied the main tail light did a "LED dance" (that's a technical term). Any ideas where I can locate such a contraption? Thanks in advance! Nick P
  12. Greetings all, I came discovered the Baron's Ultimate Light Bar this weekend. I am planning on purchasing and installing the Yamaha Passing Mount/Lamps. Is the Baron's product worth considering? Does anyone have these lights on their Royal Star? If so, do you have pics? Thanks in advance, Nick P.
  13. Hello all, Someone sent me this and I thought I would pass it along. The season is approaching fast! It was good for me to refresh my memory with these questionaires. http://msf-usa.org/CourseReview/Questionframe.htm Cheers! Nick P
  14. Hello all, I am new here and have enjoyed reading all of the experiences of this group. It has been very educational for a newbie like myself. Thank you all! Question: Is it typical to have to go through all this work to add an accessory to a RSTD/RSV? I was thinking that if you buy a part (saddlebag rails) from Yamaha - for a Yamaha, that it would fit without any bending/drilling/muscling/posting? Maybe I answered my own question in the previous paragraph. I did say I am a newbie! Cheers, Nick P. P.S. Any good mechanics in the greater Cleveland/Akron area looking to do some 4K maintenance on a 2006 Midnight RSTD and add some accessories?
