  1. I've got a 2005 RSTD with ~ 13xxx miles on it. After changing to Flanders bars, I have started noticing a "clunk" or rattle that is most noticeable when coming to a stop, but can still feel/hear it when going over some bad parts of the road. I can feel a vibration in the handlebars and can hear something as well. Checked the steering head bearings by elevation the front wheel and pulliing up, no slack and the wheel doesn't "flop" to either side. I did give the locking tabs a whack to make sure they were tight. Everything is tight that I can see, may only be coincidental with the handlebars, but looking for some help.
  2. I did it a couple of weeks ago, it was pretty easy. The biggest pain for me was that I didn't change out any of the cables or lines, so I had to disconnect the front brake line where it t's under the forks. No big deal except it is a bit of a pain to bleed, I ended up buying a pump to bleed both the brakes and the clutch, but besides that no big deal. I welded a nut and washer inside the handlebars to re-use the stock end weights and had to buy a longer bolt. You have to drill a small hole in the handlebars for the throttle cable housing to sit in, easy enough. Disconnecting the throttle cables can be a bit of a pain, just make sure that you give yourself as much slack as possible. My biggest piece of advice? Don't get in a hurry.
  3. Spend the $20-$30 and buy you a brake bleeder. Will make the whole thing much more pleasent.
  4. Sounds like a great time. I'm in.
  5. Nice. Here's a pic of mine.
  6. I just finished installing the wide max pullback handlebars on my 05 RSTD. Had to reroute the throttle side brake line as well as all of the electrical cables from the throttle side. No big deal. I initiall re-routed the throttle cables, but didn't work out, so I moved them back to the original routing. I like the feel, but don't like that the stock cable ties can't be reused since the little screw or whatever it is that holds them against the handlebars are welded to the bar. Also had to drill a new hole for the throttle cable assembly. I had a friend weld a washer and nut inside the handlebars and the stock bolt for the end weights won't reach, so I ordered two new m6 90 bolts for them. Would be much easier to do a 2nd time.
  7. I had to unbolt the brake line from the "splitter" that is under the forks and re-route it to the back side to get enough length.
  8. Used mine as it came, but did remove the shortest leaf. Put a piece of plywood and coated the entire thing with truck bed liner. Pulls no problem. Also welded on a cooler rack from some spare bits laying around, nothing fancy but gets the job done.
  9. on my 05 RSTD (12k miles) and it was WAY easy. If anybody in the DFW needs help, let me know, I have the mercury sticks and it didn't take 10 minutes. Now if only the valve adjustment would be this easy...
  10. My bone stock 05 RSTD turned 75 HP and 75 FT-LBS on the dyno.
  11. Sounds like its time to go to the darkside.
  12. I actually think is all crazy, but that is from my owners manual (the 2005 RSTD), and if you are going to try and be technical and go by what the manufacturer says, that is what they say, so technically it is apples to apples, two unapproved tires.
  13. So, how does using a Metzler tire differ from using a CT, seems like both are unapproved by the manufacturer.
  14. The only information I can find in my owners manual about tires: WARNING EWA10460 The front and rear tires should be of the same make and design, otherwise the handling characteristics of the vehicle cannot be guaranteed. After extensive tests, only the tires listed below have been approved for this model by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. Front tire: Size: 150/80-16M/C 71H Manufacturer/model: BRIDGESTONE/G705G Rear tire: Size: 150/90B15M/C 74H Manufacturer/model: BRIDGESTONE/G702G Looks to me like I am already "voiding" my warranty by running Metzlers, hope my insurance company doesn't find out.
  15. That's a pretty poor response. Insurance Companies are about 1 thing and 1 thing only, making as much money as possible. Everything else they due is a nuisance and hinderance to the 1 thing.
