  1. Can a tank bag be put on a 2009 RSV?
  2. ok ..... I've read through a few threads and would like to ask a simple question as to how my 2002 midnight ventures gauge works. At about 175 miles odometer switches to F and starts to count up. Is that when I should switch to reserve ?? also some say to just run it set on reserve all the time ?? So my first question is how is it suppose to work and what works best for my friends riding these bikes ?? Dale ps. I haven't run out of gas yet, but have had it in sputter mode a few times.
  3. Okay, I'm repainting my RSV. I really like the red of the H@nda GW. But now I was at this meeting, and there I saw a blue and red standing together. And I was very charmed of the blue one too. So here is my question, has anyone a picture o a dark-blue RSV? I searched om this forum, but that is really very time consuming. thanks in advance
  4. One of the things I didn't get with the '99 was an air pump. I found one on Ebay. Anyone else use this one?? Good..bad...ugly??
  5. hello every one. im looking at some 1990 side covers and a seat. will these fit my 1984? im trying to get as much good parts as i can then do a paint job after the season ends
  6. I have removed the rear suspension linkage including the shock from a spare frame and from my "I hope to ride some day soon" bike. Here are the questions: 1) Please help me find the posts about putting a grease nipple on them! 2) Between both shocks if they are both working , which one is better. 3) OK stupid question: How much play is too much play!! I have attached some pics for your viewing pleasure
  7. What a eventful trip I had And no members near for assistance Will tell you members later But Now Question I dont like the BuB mufflers on it If I replace them with the original pipes is there anything I have to do with the Carbs
  8. Okay folks, need a front tyre soon and don't know what to put on. We are going to put a Kumho 165/80-15 C/T on the BACK of bike, so with the outrider on, what C/T would you recommend I put on the front??
  9. It appears that at least one of the rubber boots the carbs sit on is cracked. Another one don't look to good. My question is where is the best place price wise to buy these things. If I got to take the carbs off again I'm going to replace them all. This is about four times in the last three years I've taken them off so I'm getting a little tired of this. I think some of you have repaired them but I think I just want to replace them. Thanks for the help, BOO
  10. OK, all, I've got a question for everyone to ponder. I know what the service manual says about the vacuum actuator to the throttle wire joint cable. My question is this: if the cable is properly adjusted, how far does the actuator pull in before it starts moving the throttle cables at the carbs???? I had a broken throttle cable a few years ago, fixed by the dealer, and the cruise hasn't worked since. I'm wondering if the whole cable setup needs to be adjusted/fixed/whatever. Any ideas?? All of the parts of the cruise check good, I've tried it holding the clutch/brake levers, the lights all come on like it's working properly, only it doesn't.
  11. I've been in and out of the threads, and noticed a handful of members do some fabrications... Here's my request... First; I'm a cheap S.O.B. - If I can find a way to do it just as good, for less cost- I will. Second; I don't make much $$ to begin with, so I like to keep what I can. Third; I'm cheap. As I was... My 97 RSTC doesn't have the fancy airbox the 2nd Gens have, and there's NOTHING between the cylinders to even mock a filter housing. I think it looks funny. I've seen the Mini-Teardrop covers online: (http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=40&Category_ID=108&manufacturer_ID=167&product_ID=26174&related=short) My question is, if anyone has these, or something similar, can SOMEONE please make a bracket that mounts the same way, or maybe even make the whole cover? I can't stand the empty space, and I'd love to find a way to mount something there, even if it's an empty beer can. Am I asking too much?I Just can't justify spending $150 on a blank cover.
  12. The question about how to get the bike on the center stand got me to thinking about another question. I can get my bike on the center stand with no problems at all basically using the same technique described in that thread. What I have a hard time with is getting the bike off of the center stand. Anybody got any ideas on this? Also remember I'm barely 5'6" so sitting on the seat and pushing the bike off of the center stand is out of the question.
  13. I have another question, can the handlebars be adjusted, I want to raise them a little. Looks like there is an adjustment nut that pinch's the handlebars, can I crack them loose and bring the bars up, say 1/2-1"? Thanks, Don PS Forgive me for a lame question, just want to be sure I can do this.
  14. Hope this is the correct place to ask this. Thought I was computer literate, turns out I'm just a dumb a**. I posted to my Album and want to transfer to the Gallery. How? My Dad used to say the only dumb question is the one that is not asked. Hope you agree.
  15. I have a `97 Ford F250HD w/287k on the clock..... question is, The front tires are leaning in at the top.... how do I tell if its upper and lower ball joints or what?? I just put new tires on it so need to fix this asap, like today.... just hoping its not King pins. I have never had to do any front end repairs on it, so it probably really needs it with the miles I got on it. Thinking about just changing the ball joints out any way, as they are probably shot, it tracks straight when I let go of the wheel, and I don`t hear anything making noise.... any help would be great.. Thanks
  16. I was looking at a Vmax form and some fellow mentioned that there were V4 logo inserts available for the vmax for the Stator and Clutch covers. Mine are missing some chrome so I went and looked and I think they look cool. Now my question is...will they fit my 85 G1? Here is the link. they are at the bottom of the page under vmax engine enhancements page, sorry it wont let me link directly to it. http://www.exactrep.com/acatalog/index.html?http%3A//www.exactrep.com/acatalog/catalogbody.html&CatalogBody Brian
  17. Alright, so my only question is, do the 2nd gen ventures handle as well as the first gens. It looks to me like they angled the motor to make it less top heavy, so i was just wondering. Thanks- CJ
  18. I want to get a set of Karyaken highway pegs and they come in 1"" and 1 1/4". I measured my front crash bar and it measures between 1 and 1 1/4". The question is, should I order 1 inch or 1 1/4 inch? This is for my 07 RSTD. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
  19. Got the Bestem bag delivered a while back. Just got around to checking it out on the bike (its in off site storage). Question for the group, or any of you that may have this bag. The one I received is not rectangular. The main compartment tapers to sort of a triangle shape. In looking closer at the website, you can sort of see that this would be the case, although the dimensions listed don't reflect the taper. Anyone have any experience with this? Still a great sized bag, just curious. Also wondering if the Yamaha stock bag is the same way ( I believe Bestem makes them for Yamaha)... Thanks in advance. Bob
  20. Ok guys heres my problem, i am adding a highway blaster horn I picked up at autozone for 20 bucks (139db) i am mounting it in the front fairing. i have pulled a 12g 30 amp fused line from the battery to the fairing and i know it runs in to 30 on the relay, 87 will run to the horn it self i am running from the handle bar switch wire to 86 on the relay now my question whats running to 85 i know probably simple answer but basic backyard mechanic here lolol giving it my best thanks for any help
  21. Hi all! A new member here with a question for the guys who know. I unseized the pistons, cleaned the calipers, polished the bores and pistons with 2000 Wet O Dry but I think the seals are shot. I actually believe them to be the originals. Haha. The Question: Where do you get your caliper rebuild kits and what do they come with, IE: pins, pistons, dust seals, etc? Any details would help! Chris
  22. I have a dumb question here. If it has been answered many times before, my apologies. I've spent a good amount of time searching and did not find a direct answer to my question. I've done wheel bearings on cars and trucks numerous times, but never on a bike. I don't really know a whole lot about them other than to take them out, spin them to check for flat spots, smooth rolling, etc. then grease the crap out of them and then put them back in. I am looking to replace the front bearings on my 01 RSV (I have ~40k miles on it. got the bike at ~28k. Full records of dealer recommended services within 50 miles of the recommended service point), found them on partshark.com for $10.97/piece. My questions are: 1) Is that a reasonable price, or would hitting an autoparts store for a generic replacement (if possible) be a better way to go. 2) Is it just a single wide 'bearing' or are there two (one for each side) -- (I know, probably a dumb question, but I figured it was better to ask then order the wrong number of them) -- DO'H, Found the answer to this on the next fiche I checked. 2, duh. 3) Do I need to grease them before I put them on? Can the old ones simply be re-greased and reinstalled? (I figured for 20 bucks for a set, I might as well just replace them even if they can be greased ) 4) Do I need new oil seals (I presume 2 of them; ie. one for each side)? 5) Any other parts that will need to get the job done? Like I said, I know, some dumb questions - but I much rather ask and then get it done right the first time than what the other options could lead to. Thanks a lot folks! Oh yea, for what it is worth, most of my riding is in what would typically be considered 'extremely dusty conditions'. Thank you very much west Texas... EDIT: I vaguely recall some folks either ordering bearings (possibly OEM from a dealer) and getting the wrong ones. Was that an issue with the dealer goofing up, or is it an incorrect part number on the fiche? -- This is also why I wanted to ask this question...
  23. Does any of you use the electric clothing made by Widder or Gerbing? My question, Is the RSV electrical system big enough to sustain a jacket, pants, gloves, and insoles that are heated? Any help with this question will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  24. Its so hard now a days to find something that's not made in China So my question is to you (2nd Gen) Is there anything on your bike that is made in China? and name them
