  1. I know most guys don't bother to read the tags attached to the clothing they buy. But it's time to start taking a closer look when you see one like this. At least it's PC and honest.
  2. I saw the weather report for Saturday morning (40?!) and looked for Big Bend (34 in Terlingua), and that made me realize that I needed to get going on the heated clothing purchase. My confusion now is on controllers. Do they all work on everyone's clothing? I see that the Tour Master Synergy jackets/vests come with controllers and harnesses, but they look cheap from the photos. The Firstgear Dual Portable controller looks well made, but will it work with Tour Master? EXO2 -- do I really have to mount it on my handle bars?? Are the plugs all compatible? Can I use a Firstgear controller with Tour Master products? What if I want to buy a Tour Master jacket now, and perhaps a different brand of gloves later? Will everything plug into each other? I am not installing the harness. Instead, I'll plug into my Powerlets -- it's one reason I installed them. I suppose I can lop off the fused connectors and use a right angle Powerlet plug. Unless they all come with SAE connectors?? Building some SAE connectors would be handy for when I need to charge my battery (Powerlets can transfer power both ways). What is all'y'all's experience with this stuff? Dave
  3. Last year on VentureRider I, someone wrote up how to make homemade electric clothing. Unfortunately I didn't make a copy. If that person is still around could you re submit in particular I am interested in were the electronic controller was found. Thanks
  4. OK ladies! I am very excited about riding over to Potato Creek this year, but at the same time, I've never done an overnight trip ON MY BIKE! I'm low maintenance-- no makeup or hairdryer needed, but are there any things besides the obvious (clothing, toothbrush, what not) that you find essential to bring on a bike trip? I have two saddle bags and bungee cords...... Lord, help me. Thanks! Courtney
  5. The seat on my MK1 is faded. Does anyone know what can be used to restore it to it's original black? Something that won't rub off on clothing.
  6. Does any of you use the electric clothing made by Widder or Gerbing? My question, Is the RSV electrical system big enough to sustain a jacket, pants, gloves, and insoles that are heated? Any help with this question will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. I found a can of 44k at a local auto repair garage. How much should I put in a tank of gas? The garage owner said it was some bad stuff and to make sure I didn't get any on paint, clothing, or skin. He also said if I didn't use all of it not to store in a plastic container but to use glass.
  8. 38034.1 Looking to buy a heated jacket liner and gloves, did a search, but did not see a comparison of : warm & safe heated clothing or gerbing heated clothing So has anyone had both , if so, which brand and why... Regards
  9. I can not wait for winter to be over any longer. I need to get this thing out on the road to see if my long hours in the garage have paid off or not. Went out and bought a pair of heated gloves, and a heated vest from tour master Synergy. What is the best way to tell if my charging system and computer will hold up to these items?, besides watching the voltmeter, which i seem to recall some not holding much stock in? I have read the entire set of instructions that came with the clothing and can't seem to find anything on how much draw these things have . Perhaps if someopne on here has these items and a first gen you could let me know how it worked out for you. By the way i have the stock stator on my bike; all lights have been switched to led ,only add-ons consist of low voltage passing lamps and 2 -10 inch led light bars.
  10. Just finished reading the review on the neck gator and the Belaclava. Seems like everything that they tag as a "biker" item, gets the price jacked up. For anyone interested in some very good cold weather clothing without playing through the nose, check out www.maxit-inc.com. I am currently using their Headgator 6 in 1. Excellent piece of clothing. The only issue I have with it is that I wish they made it with a yoke to fit lower onto the chest and back. Also 'merican made. Just my observation and opinion, for what it's worth.
  11. Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering trading in my DL1000 V-strom to purchase a Venture so my wife can go on trips with me. I saw one this last weekend at the Seattle International Motorcycle Show, was *very* interested but had some questions the sales people weren't too keen on asking. Can't really say I blame them, but I was wondering if your group would mind answering a few of the questions they didn't have an answer for.. 1. Has there been any significant changes to the Venture for the past 4 years? 2. What is the most common problem with this model, and what is the usual fix? 3. How much additional current is available for items such as heated clothing, GPS etc.? 4. If there was one thing you wish you could do to improve the Venture what would it be? Lastly, this would be an every-day rider (well ok 9-10 months out of the year). Any big maintenance issues to be concerned about outside routine maintenance? Thanks for your time. It's basically a toss-up between this bike and a Gold Wing.
