  1. Well i am still breathing no matter what Mother Nature do's , i left Fulton TX. Fri. afternoon to beat the storm , got to Beeville TX. and needed gills stayed the nite in pleasentville next day ran down hwy 90 through Choke canyon met a lot of Boarder Patrol , if you pulled over , there would be one there in 2 mins , witch very ruff on old man full of soda pop , anyway nite 2 i got lucky and got the last room at the Days Inn in Ft. Stockton Tx. it was full of Storm Chasers , they were in the parking lot taking pics of the clouds and watching their radar , just a peachy place to spend the nite , i slept VERY well ! the next day [ today ] left in the fog , up to Roswell made a left on hwy 380 over to Hondo a great ride , than down to White Sands , HOT AND SUN BURNT , Wally's brand of spray on sun block don't work ! OCH ! going to try for Page AZ. tomorrow . Thom
  2. If ya look at my picture, the left exhaust pipe is tan and the right one is darker. I havnt had a carb sync since 6/8/08. 09 the bike sat mostly and has 4000 miles on it since then. My mpg seems to be poor. My question is-- This something that a carb sync may fix or am I looking at a valve issue. The left side has always been a lil lighter since ive had the bike. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/Hazenson/2010/100_3717-1.jpg?t=1273875421
  3. On my way to work, I noticed my dash lights weren't workin then I pulled over & saw my head light & Signal lts weren't working. I got to work and when I turned the bars to the left it all came back on. Is there a connection I should look at to find the problem?
  4. Left the house for work yesterday, had to turn around a mile later. Back on the road behind a semi on a 2 land hwy goin 60 mph. A white Grand Prix (mid 90s) going the other way came within inches of going under the semi and then a few feet from me. Two miles later, some woman decided she needed gas. Made a left in front of me. Hit the brakes and the Stebel at the same time. I stop at the next gas station and about get into an argument with the attendant (full serve station; not my bike!). Pull out of station and spin the rear tire on a wee bit of sand/gravel. Bike laying in (on the guards) on the middle of the road. Pop the bike up and head to work. Nine hours later, time to come home. Beautiful day all day long. Not a cloud in the sky. Until 1:45 am when I am riding home. At least I am still alive and the bike was unhurt.
  5. I got the 89 out for a few miles yesterday thanks to Yammer Dan getting my attention off all the work stacking up.Anyway that Barnette clutch spring kit makes for a harder clutch lever pull but it grabs like a pitt bull. It's been over a year since I had it out and I have noticed some changes in my old body since then. My left elbow joint pain kicked in and I had to wait a minute or so before I could work the clutch. After about 75 miles of riding my left hand spasmed to the point my fingers wedged and I could not close my fist until the pain resided. The scoot ran great but I sure could use some grease on the old joints.
  6. help, my 02 midnight is running at about 75%, or maybe on 3 cyclinders, seems to just bog out in od if you throttle it hard and the front left cyclinder's pipe is not getting hot while running, the other 3 three are. any suggestions? I would sure like some help maybe getting the carbs sync'd. thanks, bigdog1971:think:
  7. So there we were (Nina & I), stopped at a red light on a 4-lane street, with left turn lanes, us in the inside lane waiting for the green to go straight thru. I'm watching the light for it to turn yellow for the cross traffic. We're first out. Light changes yellow...then red and..... BANG! Two cars travelling opposing direction on the cross street collide right in front of us. One was making a left turn, the other going straight thru. The one going straight thru (a red car) hit the one turning left (a blue car) near the right rear door and caused it to slide a bit. The red car stopped, the blue car regained control, made the turn and stopped at the curb. They both RAN THE RED LIGHT !!! So I get out to offer assistance to the driver of the red car...still stopped in the middle of the intersection. She asked for my info (which I would have given her) but I said "you should know that both of you ran the red light". She immediately argued that and didn't want my info so I thought "too bad" and I left. (nobody was injured). I reported it to the police and gave my statement to ICBC (govern't insurance co). My thinking is, if I can do anything to stop idiots who are in too much of a hurry that they run a red light, I will. Danged if I'm going to let either one of those drivers get away with that! ps... we weere in the truck, not the scoot, on our way to work.
  8. I just got an e-mail message that my late wife's cousin's husband was involved in an accident in Edmonton on Monday. Another case of a driver making a left turn in front of the bike rider. Be careful out there everyone. Our families don't need the grief. Here's the note. I spent the whole day Tues. at the hospital. He was out of surgery around 1:45 pm. On his way to his room he saw me waiting and gave me a little wave. After 15 minutes of prep I was able to sit next to him. I never spoke to any doctors, none came around while I was there. Tony woke up sometime last night or this morning (April 27) and did not know where he was. He does not recall the accident.. They told him you are in the hospital and you were in a bike accident. He fought to stay awake the whole time I was there and ate a big supper although kept closing his eyes after a few bite and I would say Tony and he would open his eyes and start chewing. He was given a shot for pain, ate well and I left him afterwards. He remembers everything expect the accident. He asked me where it happened and how. Wow!!! The police officer I spoke to said the guy actually stopped as Tony hit him and that saved his life. Thank you Lord !!!!!!!!!! He is also being charged with the accident ( the other guy not Tony). The guy was making a left at the intersection and Tony going straight through. What Tony tells me is that they put a plate in his left wrist as well as his ankle and there are some broken ribs. I want to actually confirm everything with the surgeon Dr. Webber. At one point he said to me " I guess my bike ain't pretty". I said nope and changed the subject. I actually don't even know where it is. The accident happened south of Edmonton closer to International airport in a town called Nisku. I am thinking a towing co, there has it. He has his right wrist wrapped that sustained a gouge of a cut that they stitched and of course his left wrist wrapped. I was amaze at how well he managed to eat by himself although I had to cut his food. He did look fine and his sense of humour was present in a few of our conversations. He was told 6-8 weeks before he can walk. The healing process starts now. He was in good spirits today, just droggy from the meds.
  9. I did a thread a couple of weeks ago on my bike not wanting to go straight.I changed the steering bearings and it made a world of difference. Thanks for the input and help. Now that I did that when i left the handlebar lay I got air in the clutch line. Hope that should be an easy fix. Again thanks for the help.

  11. went for my 1st post op today...doc says everything looks good and is mending correctly. took some new x-rays and it was a nasty break in my forearm, but i got a nice new piece of chrome holding it together...now i wait on the bill. i still have a brace on my left elbow to keep it in socket, and one on my right wrist doing the same. all in all i am doing pretty well and thank each of you for your continued prayers and support. can't wait for the VA M&E on April 17th!!! Ben
  12. A Brand New Dunlop E3 has a tread depth of 11/32 for the rear. I have 10713 miles on mine and still have almost 6/32 left. (not quite 6/32 after several measurements) I just got back from a 675 mile trip and it moved it off the 6/32 mark. It was a solid 6/32 before I left. So how many miles do you think I will get with this rear tire...and when should I change it and still be safe. Running it to the threads show is not what I consider safe. I am thinking at about 4/32 pull if off. I already have a new one ready to go in its place. I am very pleased with this tire...
  13. My scoot runs great. I couldn't ask for it to run any better. But.... since it has warmed up, I am noticing that my left leg gets warm. I stopped today, and touched the pipes. The left two pipes, I can only put my hand on for a second or so. The right two, I can leave my hand on. They are pretty cool to the touch. This was after about a 30 minute ride. Like I said...it runs great. The coil problem was already taken care of by Buddy. My only real issue is that one leg gets warmer than the other. Any ideas? P.S. Also, I cleaned the insides of the pipes when I put them back on last week. They still look shiny and new inside. I cleaned them to get an idea of how each side is burning. They are looking the same...like brand new.
  14. ok im looking for a battery cover for a1986 yamaha virago xv700 is this the left or right side cover? a old girlfriend called and just had to ask me if i can find one? and im not sure what side its on i found a chrome on on ebay. but it just says left and right covers for 60 bucks??? sorry guys and gals what can i say im not a parts salesman.
  15. I dont know if the Exhaust collector is my problem or not, what i am haveing trouble with is that the left side exhaust seems to be more resticted than the right, you can hold your hand in front of the exhaust on the mufflers and you can tell that the exhaust is not the same, you can even hear the defference. On the left front exhaust pipe you can see where it has bottem out and flaten the exhaust slitly, not that bad i dont think but not sure. would the exhaust collector baffel being louse and lodged in there cause this, has any one had this problem ?
  16. Last spring I greased my front forks. Put it all back together and everything looked good. A while later I had to trailler the bike and it was loaded with the bike on its sidestand and the front wheel turned left against the bulkhead. We strapped it down and only hauled it about 5 miles at low speed. Afterward it seems that the handlebars and the driving light assembly is tweaked to the right about 1/4 1/2". I never noticed that before. Sitting on the bike its either 1/4 lower on the right or 1/4 higher on the left. So, is there a procedure that I can do to make sure I line everything up right? Right now the bike is up on the lift. I plan on moving the fairing away and remove the top tree and check the pinch bolts. Any other ideas?
  17. I have a 2006 RSV. Does the brake pedal work the front left caliper? What is the best order for bleeding brake line?
  18. Almost another incident today that made one smelly Biker , I bet ya ! I was in my P/U fetching BEER24/7 Birthday present when some old biker decided to pull over into my lane . Too explain it better , we were approaching a red light intersection and I was in the right lane , he had one cage in front of him in the left lane , so he figured he would get into the clear lane at which I was in . He forgot that I was on the right side of him and as his shoulder was to my left front tire . He suddenly did an aggressive swerve right and I had to lock up the brakes and also blew the horn to warn him I was there . I honestly cannot tell you that if he jumped high off the saddle or if he grew smelly substance in his britches . Needless to say I missed him or did he miss me ? So I did not score any points today to say the least , even though he did manage to get in front of me . I followed his for about 7 miles . He was weaving left to right , to the left, to the right in the oust side lane . Then he slowed down and then sped up like old timers do . I watched him carefully and decided maybe I need to get his attention to see if he was OK . We approached another intersection to stop . I rolled down my passenger side window to shout out if he was OK or was he tire . I was prepared to buy the old coot a cup of coffee if needed . But he pulled over into a gas station without answering me , so I think he realized he needed to stop . So I figured he would be OK , so I forwarded onto my Mom's to hide BEER24/7 Birthday present until Wednesday . What was pretty dang funny was that he has "GRAVE ROBBER" painted on the side of his gas tank . Go Figure !!!!! BEER30
  19. Well I dumped the ride Wednesday evening in the rain, what a mess. Moron with no lights on his truck or trailer slams on his brakes in front of me to make a left turn. My options were limited to hitting his low boy trailer or the pavement. Fortunately I was able to slow to about 20 or so when I hit ( I chose the pavement). Broken clavicle and minor road rash. It could have been much worse. God was surely looking out for me. The bike has some pretty serious damage on the left side and the helmet sure did its job. I am in the need for a one stop repair shop around the LaPorte, Baytown Pasadena area. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I will post some pictures this afternoon. Thanks.
  20. Well, after 485 days in Iraq, it's time to resume my old life and start where I left off. I look forward to seeing the family on a daily basis, playing with the grandkids, walking barefoot in the green grass, and of course, riding my Venture with my lovely wife. I only got to ride about 2 weeks total since i left, and can't wait to grab some throttle and let the pipes make some noise. I hope to be able to make some rallies and M/E's this year. Thanks for your prayers and best wishes, they have certainly helped. Hope to see some of you soon and make new friends in the coming year. Mike
  21. Ok......nice afternoon......sun came out.....time to finish up a few things and check over some of the work I've done on the old girl before I put the bodywork back on. When I first pulled the lower chin off a while back there was a LOT of antifreeze in there. OK, not a biggie, check the bypass valve. Not bad I figurered......drips every winter a bit. I put in a new o-ring last year and thought that would take care of it. Not the o-ring. I got her outside and let it warm up pretty good. Everything was looking good. No oil leaks, running smooth, it's a good day. Then I see the steam coming off the left side of the radiator. Not bad, just a wisp. Not acceptable. Got to looking and saw a wet spot at the bottom left corner. Tighened the hose clamp at the top to make sure it was dripping down the side. Nope. Pressure checked it and it's seeping at the lower corner alright. If I didn't have the bodywork off I never would have noticed it. It's not dripping, just boils off. So.........rather than scramble on eBay for another radiator....which may be better or worse than mine......I'm looking at pulling it and taking it to a radiator shop and have them go through it. Anybody had good luck with this type of approach? Or does anybody have a good radiator they want to part with? Man I was sooooo close to going for a ride.
  22. Last night, on my way home from work, a young lady on a cell phone pulled out beside me and sideswiped my 89 Royale. Fortunately the gear all worked flawlessly and I got away with some aches and pains. Here is the part I want to share with you all: I was on a boulevard (center divider) with 2 lanes both directions. I was in the left lane and the young lady was coming from the left on a merge across the boulevard. She was at a stop sign, lost, on the cell phone trying to get directions and decided to go just as I came beside her. We were the only cars in the vicinity. Now, why would I be in the left lane with a car merging from the left with the right lane wide open? Because I was distracted. My head was elsewhere. Now, she shouldn't have pulled out into me like that but if I'd been in the right lane (where a smart biker would have been in that situation) this wreck would not have happened. I wouldn't have the bruises, the Venture wouldn't be significantly damaged and the young lady's prom night would not have been spoiled. I hope I never forget the lesson and I wanted to post it to remind all my friends here to stay sharp!
  23. I have a relay for my passing lamps but I can't seem to find the numbers #30,#85,#86 & #87. It is a 4 prong, 12v, 30 amp relay. One pin has the #38 stamped on it and no other pin has numbers. But if you look at the top with the mounting bolt hole tab on top it reads top left #85, top right #87, bottom left #86 and bottom right #30. maybe I don't have the right relay? Is this maybe how it would be hole mounting tab still at top Top pin #85, Bottom pin #86, left pin #87 and right #30?. Thanks for your help
  24. OK, you never know unless you ask. I need a piece of chrome for the '91. I don't care if it's bent, rusted, etc. As long as it's in one piece. It's number #11 in the attached pick of accessories. When I bought the bike it was already missing, and my guess, from the condition of the fairing, it was lost during the big drop?? Anyway I have the left side and could sure use the right side to keep the bike from falling over.... So if anyone has seen or might have one laying around on an old upper right, and would like to part with it, shoot me a price. Thanks. http://www.cast-aways.com/QUICKY/access3.jpg
  25. I posted earlier about my lifestyle change and was asked for a picture, so I will post a couple. I really do appreciate all the encouragement I am getting from you guys and I still have a ways to go. I will also see if I can find one from earlier. The one from Asheville is me on the left with me keeping the picture balanced. I was actually not at my peak weight in that picture. RandyA
