  1. As many of you already know I started making an auxiliary harness for the 2nd Gen Royal Star Ventures a few months ago. These plug in between the connectors under the seat that connect the main harness to the fender harness and allow you to easily make connections to the taillight, brake light and turn signal circuits for adding more lights or attaching to a trailer harness. I am happy to announce that with the help of some folks here and also over on Delphi that I can now expand the offering to include 1996 to 2001 original Royal Stars, 2005 and up Tour Deluxe, V-Stars and Road Stars. I was finally able to obtain the second style connector used by Yamaha. You can see a photo of the basic RS Venture harness in the Second Gen Parts Classified section. I am sorry to say that I still have not found the connectors for the GEN I Ventures and Venture Royales, but I am still looking. Thanks again to all that have purchased harnesses already and for all of the positive feed back I have received on them. Please do ride safe.
  2. My late father-in-law had a First Gen a long while back - must have installed a CB. I just found the manual. It says, "Yamaha Accessories, CB Radio Kit for XVZ12. Installation Manual." The number at the bottom right corner is 59J-2B19Y-21. If anyone can use this they can have it. Just send me a personal email. If you don't hear back from me pretty quickly, don't give up. I leave for China and Thailand at the first of the week and won't be back stateside until mid-May. Lynn, Missionary Rider Vilonia, Arkansas
  3. 1st gen,,,, nice looking 86 with absolutely no bling, don't even know if it runs yet. Guess I have something to do this winter, unless somebody wants it more than me.
  4. What diameter are our handlebars? (1 gen ) Also....what Dia. are the "Snaggle studs" ?
  5. TRADE IT FOR A 1st GEN!!!! This thing will show me how many 2nd Gen owners couldn't resist looking!!:rotfl:
  6. My first gen starts every time quick but cranks slow like a bad battery. Battery checks good, cables are clean. Is there a common problem to look at first? Battery is not new.
  7. I've seen 2 different firing orders listed during a search. 1-3-2-4 and 1-3-4-2. Is 1st and 2nd gen the same? Mine is 2nd gen. Just putting an excel cheat doc together. Tired of rumaging though manual for little stuff.
  8. I need the metal tube from the thermostat housing that has the bypass valve in it. The interface on the RSV/Hybrid 1st gen motor to 2nd gen cooling system is in the MvGyvering process. I am going to keep both the 1st gen & RSV thermostat housings on bike, but only have a thermostat in RSV housing. I need to do this to get the water pump hooked up to the lower radiator outlet. Plumbing is different between the two. Where the line enters the water pump is not going to accept the RSV water line, so I have to use the plastic elbow from a 1st gen, which is locked in place by the thermostat housing. This tube will be cut off between the selector valve & the thermostat housing and brazed shut. I need to do this to block off this port on the 1st gen thermostat housing. Out of all the parts I have, I can't find this one. Gary
  9. The 1st thing I need is a trailer hitch for my new to me 2nd gen , new or used is ok . anybody got one . Thom
  10. Any one know if the handlebar riser on a 2nd gen is a one piece or two piece item? I do not see any appearance of it being a stud threaded into the upper body, if it is it has to be countersunk I need to either turn down the stud on the riser or drill out the hole on the 1st gen triple trees I am using on the Hybrid project in order to get the 2nd gen bars on the 1st gen triple tree. Only about 0.030" difference, but it is a non-standard hole size in the 2nd gen triple tree, 0.550". There is enough shaft size that it could be turned down to fit and not get into the threads on shaft. A 9/16 (0.562) drill will work to open up triple tree if I put some shim stock I have around riser shaft. Gary
  11. Sighted a blue 2nd Gen RSV at the Lakewood Center, Lakewood, CA today at 1:00 p.m
  12. Anybody watch A P tonight ? Was that a 1st gen maroon bike in the garage with the Cord car ?

    Mirrors

I'm looking for a set of stock mirrors for a 2nd gen Venture. Thanks, Mark Headdoc
  14. Could someone get the C/L spacing of the mount holes on a 2nd gen shock & post it?? Couple of pictures would be nice. Getting started on the Hybrid RSV and am exploring the possibility of putting a modified 1st gen shock on it. The milk crate is temporary till I get a lift stand from Carbon One. Gary
  15. Hey Guys, This is just a learning exercise today. I've been searching for specific info on the timing of the 1st Gen, particulary the 84 since that's what I've got. If I understand correctly, our V4 is an odd fire engine, meaning that the cylinders are not evenly spaced 180 deg apart like the typical inline 4. However, when looking at the pickup coils on the inside of the left cover (see the pic I found and re-attached) it appears that not only are the banks separated by a prescribed angle, but each cylinder within the bank appears to also be separted by a smaller angle. My search leads me to a 70 deg angle between banks, but what is the separation angle between cylinders on each bank? Why would the mfg have chosen that timing, and is there some benefit that escapes me? Thanks all!
  16. Hey guys, What's the best way to jack up a First Gen? Help me out. I want to check the front wheel bearings, steering bearings, rear bearings, swing arm and shock. You know... all that stuff that could cause major mishaps at interstate speeds. So I need to get the front and back off of the ground. Is there an easy way to get it up on to the center stand? That will help for some stuff. I can't seem to do it even with help. I have a Harbor Freight M/C Jack, willingness and ingenuity!
  17. Dingy stopped over for lunch!! Well, he had a hidden agenda, it seems as he bought the remains of s 2nd gen from a certain Canadian member, and another certain Canadian member brought the parts down to my place! I won't spoil the surprise but I will tell you it's gonna end up being a very nice 2nd gen!! Gary, it was great to see you again my friend, hope you and all the parts made it home OK!!!
  18. Just took a peek at some tri-wing industries stuff. Any others out there? Pros and cons of doing it yourself and what about a reverse? If you have one lets see the pictures?
  19. I think this has been asked before but I don't find it. Is there a car tire that can be used on the front wheel of the 2nd gen Venture? If so would that be a good choice? It seems to me that it would be okay for a trike to use a CT on the front.
  20. What octane rating do you use? Does a higher rating make a difference in the performance level and maintenance of a Second Gen or late model RSTD motor?
  21. The guy this morning on I-696 east heading to the eastside of Detroit on the first gen.....was it someone from this forum?
  22. One of my harness customers found a video on YOU TUBE that recommended using the Hopkins-46255-Power-Taillight-Converter for connecting a 4 pin trailer harness to the 5 wire 2nd Gen Venture system, I reviewed the video and what info I could find on that converter and recommended that he purchase that unit as it should work. He has the Hoppy now but the color codes on his Hoppy do not match what the instruction sheet I found on line. I am sending him a harness in the morning, but I not able to help him determine which wires on the Hoppy connect to which wires on the harness. If the colors matched the instructions it would be easy, but his colors are different. Has any one else used the Hoppy 46255 on a 2nd Gen? Any help is appreciated.
  23. Well I finally finished making the bracket to mount a 1st gen center stand onto the RSV. Seems to work well, only problem is the retract spring. The one I bought for it is waay to flimsy for the task. Can anyone recommend a suitable spring that I can buy that will do the job? Cheers, D.W.
  24. As to replacement brake pads for a 2nd gen. ( 08 ) . I am looking for any comments as to aftermarket brake pads, which brand, is the best quality to buy, in terms of " stopping power " ie: What brand works the best !!! Irregardless of the cost, Is there an agreement here as to the highest quality brake pads ?? :detective:
