  1. Don't know if any one has noticed the price drop on the Venture in Canada.... Taken from Cycle Canada Site.... Yamaha Motor Canada has announced sizeable price reductions on many of their 2012 motorcycles, including models like the Raider, V-Star 950 and R1. This brings suggested retail pricing on Canadian products more in line with U.S. prices, says Yamaha. “Due to market fluctuations and inventory levels, we weren’t able to address the pricing gaps of the last few years as quickly as we would have liked,” commented Peter Swanton, National Sales Manager, Motorsports for Yamaha Canada. “But to kick off 2012, we’re well positioned to bring about this price reduction. Yamaha customers can now get many models for the same price they would have paid 7 or 8 years ago, even with the product technological advances that have happened in the meantime.” While prices for some machines remain unchanged, many key models will have significant reductions, says Yamaha. For example the Royal Star Venture S's current price of $23,899 drops to $19,999, a $3,900 difference, and the FJR 1300 drops $3200 to $16,999. If it's a litrebike you're interested in, Yamaha's newly traction controlled R1 is now $1,800 cheaper at $14,999.
  2. Hmmmm..Hate for my first question to be a "stupid" one, but they SAY there's no such thing as a stupid question..I guess you'll have to be the judge..! Anyway; I just purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture, and got my new plate. Went to change it out, and used the proper tool for removing the retaining screws/bolts, but all they do is turn, i.e. they don't come out. So; my problem is figuring out how to get to the backside so I can hold the nut or whatever is there while I unscrew from the front. I've tried removing luggage, etc., for access, but just can't figure it out..Perhaps the tail light has to be removed? Thanks for any assistance here!
  3. I need a brake light switch for the front brake master cylinder. This is for a 84 Venture Royale with cruise control. Does anyone know the part number and if it still can be purchased thru Yamaha? I think I read somewhere that you needed a four wire switch when having cruise. Thanks
  4. Hello, Being new here, it looks as though I originally posted a question in the wrong section. Freebird sent a Utopia link in response to this, but I am still looking for something more like the Markland or Ventureline product. Now that I have found the correct location, here is the post again. Hi, I am new here, and am hoping that someone might be able to help me out. In 1983, I bought a brand new 1983 Yamaha Venture. Bright red, and nothing special. Over the years, I have added a Ventureline driver's seat backrest and luggage rack, and an aftermarket radio from Best Buy. I still have the bike, and ride it regularly. It seems to put a lot of newer bikes to shame in terms of handling and engine performance. Brand new, out the door, it only cost a fraction of what bikes cost now. Here is why I joined this board. My son has followed in my footsteps, and this last summer, he purchased a 1983 Yamaha Venture too (see pic). First thing that we noticed, was that all 1983 Ventures are not the same. Things like clock location, anti-glare glass, helmet holders, turn signal cancelling switch type, and other little knick knacks, are different. The one thing that he would like to be the same though, is that he would like to have a backrest for the driver seat. He currently lives four hours away from home, and he enjoys riding the Venture when he visits. I would like to buy a backrest for his Venture as a Christmas present, but have come up against a wall of stone. Nobody seems to carry them anymore for a 1983 XVZ1200. I tried Markland, Babbit's, E-bay, Google, Craig's list, the local Yamaha shop (Ventureline), and several aftermarket shops. Nobody can even give me any leads. At this point, I would be happy to find even a used backrest. Can anybody give any suggestions? Thank you, Greg

  6. Several years ago my CB antenna snapped off my 06 RSV as I understand has happened to most RSV owners. I understand that the Yamaha antenna has 8m stud and most available antennas have 3/8" stud. I read somewhere that Firestik made a adaptor for this, model K-1A8M. I cannot find any mention of it on their website or anyone that sells it. Sierra Electronics makes an adaptor for Harley, but nothing for Yamaha. Could I buy a standard 3/8" fold over adaptor and rethread the male end to 8m x 1.25 and make this work with a Firestik Firefly antenna?
  7. Most everyone will agree, the 4 piston rear caliper is over powerful and can cause premature rear wheel lock up. Has anyone swapped out the 4 piston caliper unit for a one or two piston rear caliper unit ?? If so please let me know what was done, is there a bolt on replacement available from some other Yamaha model ?? Thanks, Mike
  8. For all Yamaha Models, here is a listing from Transport Canada for the Canadian Owners. The most recent V-Star recall is included. http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/SEARCH/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&mk=2032!4783&md=0&fy=0&ty=9999&ft=&ls=0&sy=0
  9. I was at a yamaha dealer yesterday and they have one of the new Raider SCLs. WOW, that is one good looking bike. If I could afford another bike in addition to my venture or if I only rode one up I would buy that bike in a heart beat. I went of yamaha's web site this morning and they have a video of the bike but it looks so much better in person. Yamaha is only making 500 of these. Wish I had one.
  10. the chirping on my 01 is taking the fun out of riding. i've put 9000 miles on it since March and I'm not getting use to it. I'm going to have to do something. It sounds like the I-basked is a gamble. might or might not work. just wondering if the 1st gen. chirpped. why does yamaha ignore this problem?
  11. one of the snaps on my trunk lid broke off some time ago. i've been riding with just the one but it is wearing thin and won't stay fastened. I guess I'll have to buy a new lid. is there a place to buy one besides yamaha. I'd hate to think what that would cost. any insight on this problem is appreciated. David
  12. If you are like me you are always curious what happens to our bikes when we sell or trade them. We I got a Face Book request to be friends with the sales person that handled the trade of our 04 VTX 1800 C on an 07 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe (second week of August 2011). I have post pictures of what they looked like when traded/bought and what the VTX looks like now. The van, driven by a person under the influence of drugs and booze hit the mail box about a quarter mile up the road when the van first left the road. The next thing it hit was our old VTX plowing other bikes and quads our of the way. Far as I know nobody was on or looking at any of the bikes or ATV's. I'm sure the X is totaled being an 04, but it was an 11k bike that looked as good on the bottom as it looked on top, the dealer had it listed as "MINT". BTW the only reason for trading is the Yamaha has air ride, electronic cruise control, factory hard bags and quick release sissy bar and windshield.
  13. When I was 16 I had a big Yamaha 650 (I think it was 650) it was Red and White and it did not have a strater button it had a lever with a cable that went down to the starter. Does anyone know the model or the year I would like to find one to restore.
  14. Well figured I would post this here just to see if we have any out board Techs or folks familiar with this engine. Here's what I have got. 1995 Yamaha 225TXRT. Carbureted (6 individual) 76 degree V6 First noticed the problem as a surge sensation running at 4000, would get an intermittent burst for 1-2 secs then drop back. Had a little miss stutter I could detect coming up on plane, but otherwise planes easily (226 GW Seafarer). Replaced spark plugs, ran the same. Ran it for about an 1 hour after that. Checked the plugs and number 2 looks new. Here's what's been done. The engine has spark on all six at idle and I have visually verified spark at the spark plugs on all six at cranking speed (old school test with plug in the boot). Checked the ignition coils resistance primary and secondary windings. All OK per spec. Checked the resistance on the spark plug caps and found #2 way out . Replaced the spark plug cap on # 2. Test ride no change. Swapped complete coil assembly between #2 and #4, Still no change, problem does not follow the coil. Still missing with no coloring of the #2 plug. Resistance of Both Charge Coils and each of the 6 poles of the pulser coil are in spec. Using the Yamaha (Electro Specialties) CDI Tester (Black box with the dial, light and High/low switch) The Pulser coil (all six poles), the charge coils, and the CDI outputs to the ignition coils (using the specified load coil) all test in range. All of them tested higher than the minimum specified set point. Spec for CDI output to coil is dial at 75 and switch on high. All 6 cdi outputs would continue to light the light up to a dial setting of 82. Cranking speed with all plugs removed. Same for pulser coil output. Spec is 45 and low switch. All 6 poles will light the light with a dial setting up to 55. Repeated the output tests with the Yamaha CDI tester with engine hot. Same result. Ran boat with Air intake removed and confirmed fueling on #2 with same spray pattern as 4 and 6. Fresh fuel, 90 octane No ethanol Recreational marine fuel, New Racor filter, have never had any fuel starvation problems. Still have even compression 125-130 in all cylinders. Can Pulser Coil check good at cranking speed and be bad at higher Speed?? Pulser coil is over $300.00 don't want be wrong on this. Anyway to check if I'm dropping the pulser for #2 under load?? Don't have a winky blinky (Yamaha Diagnostic Tool YB 6444), but the manual says it works on mine. Is the winky blinky a reliable test? Would you condemn a pulser based on the Winky blinky code? Have I missed, not checked anything obvious that would effect just #2? Thank You in advance for any help, suggestions, Derrek

  16. We have all laughed about it, then we complained about it, then we ignored it!! But in an article from yesterdays USA Today it states that Cassett Tape sales were up 27% in 2010. They claimed it was due to the boom in the Indy music business and the quick turn-around time of tape versus disk or vinal. Personally, I think Yamaha knows what is in the future and you guys are buying a lot more tapes than you will admit to.
  17. I need to remove the Reflector with the word Yamaha in it. It is located between the two side bags at the rear/bottom. Can someone provide some general steps of instructions so I do not dismantle things that are not needed. I tend to do that alot, remove things that are not needed.
  18. Saw this post at triketalk.com and thought it was a great deal for someone who may be interested. Larry
  19. As a winter project plan to fix the 2nd gear issue on my 84. I've read the how-to articles which are very informative. I read somewhere that Yamaha sells a 2nd gear kit for this repair but can't find the part number. Anyone have it?
  20. Howdy all, I have a friend with an 87 Venture. He loves his bike. I am hoping to find a salvage yard or some place to get a few things for him. He is missing some relay that is located on the upper right hand of his dash. He has to put a paperclip in the socket for it or his turn signals won't work - but if he leaves it in his battery will go dead. He is also having problems with his ignition switch - it will start but the headlight will not come back on after cranking. I would like to purchase these items for him and help him install them so we can ride together without worry of him breaking down. Anyone know of a Yamaha graveyard or something where I can acquire these parts? I have tried the local Yamaha dealer here in Omaha and they are no help. I rode to Cripple Creek, CO for the veterans rally and a vet who served in Viet-Nam with my father that rides a Venture told me about this forum. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and keep em' on 2 wheels, Dustin Fanning spunner@spunner.com
  21. The other day my son came home and when he parked the car he heard a tire going down. The next day I took off the tire and while rolling it to the pickup I could hear something inside the tire. The tire was cut and ruined, and while changing the tire we pulled out a yamaha combination #8 and #10 wrench. So if you were riding by my place spying on me, you can stop and get your wrench back!!!! I've seen lots of different stuff in tires, but never a wrench.
  22. Ive got a Yamaha light bar on my 2005 RSTD. One of the driving lights got busted in it. Anyone know of an aftermarket 4 1/2" sealed beam light or replacement light I can replace it with? Yamaha said they're on back order till Oct ? Cheers, Steve
  23. I actually ran across this when I was looking at the link to some passenger pegs that myminpins posted. The do not list an application for the RSV but they list if for some other Yamaha models so maybe it would be a possibility. Not CHEAP at $749.00 but interesting. http://www.bikerbrackets.com/bbaldesc.htm
  24. What a PITA!!!!! I went to the Yamaha Dealer to get fork oil... the instruction in the progressive spring set recommended 10 or 15 wt and specificallly advised against 20wt oil. All Yamaha had was 20 wt. nothing else! I ended up going to a honda dealership where they had 5 or 10 wt...no 15. So I bought the 10 wt Honda fork and shock oil....$9.00 for 1/2 litre!!!! (500 ml) That would be $3420 for a 50 gal (us) barrel!!!!
  25. I am so p!$$ed off. I have a 07 RSV. At 11,000 km's (6800 miles) I had to get the rear shock changed because it started to leak. Still under warranty and at 34,000km (21,000 miles) it is shot again. Dealer contacted Yamaha for a replacement and they were told no way, not going to happen. Yamaha Canada told dealer that it is my fault that there is no way I should need another shock and if it is leaking, it is something I am doing. Dealer said Yamaha told him maybe I run tires underinflated. Well I don't, I always check my air pressure and besides, even if that were true, I don't think that would ruin a shock. So in other words, what Yamaha is saying is, it is impossible that they replaced the first shock with a possible defective one. Now, I know you only have my word on this..... I am 190lbs and rarely, my wife will ride on the back. She is 110lbs. I do not travel on rough roads and don't abuse my bike. The shock is over $600.00 plus labor to install it. How can a company offer a 5 year warranty if they can so easily get out of it? I am calling Yamaha Canada customer service tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to say, what to do about this, where I can turn to for help. There is no way I am going to bite the bullet for this. You can't tell me that they can say with 100% certainty that the replacement shock they put in was 100% perfect. HELP, please with your suggestions, comments. Help me arm myself for the attack on Yamaha Canada tomorrow. Thank you. Greg
